Just got back to DHS. Waiting for 44 to be called. At least we went about our scheduled plans for today and then made an unscheduled trip to AK. Ride opened as we were making our way back to dhs to pickup a car we left here this morning so we are now going in to hopefully ride.

It’s open!!!! Groups 15-16.

So, is it safe to say that there is a real possibility that I have shelled out thousands of dollars for a WDW vacation coming up in the coming months, and we will not be able to experience the ride that is the whole reason we decided to book? Is it still going to be this insane in the coming months?
The same issue will exist 4 or 14 months from now. Time may help decrease the possibility but can't remove it. RoR can still buckle on your day, or a random hurdle occur (sickness, fender-bender, lost MB, etc).

The best option whether going sooner or later is planning a back-up day, and will help w/ MMRR too.

To really hedge a bet, also plan a morning 'alternate' with a HS ropedrop if you have hoppers. We scheduled a 2nd back up on our Epcot day to absorb a later arrival only if absolutely necessary. We ended up not needing to use it.

Judging from posted reports, it seems like the majority succeed on Day 1. More than 99% succeed by Day 2. Day 3 works w/ hopper and is near 100% as one can come. I suspect GR would try to help guests who arrived twice in HS before official opening but still fail to ride RoR (room in your plans will help give them something to work with).

Now I just don't know what to do on Friday. You are the only people I can brainstorm with so please allow me to do so. I have Saturday as a HS day so will go through the whole thing again. But Friday I was hoping to just hang out at epcot. I can do the BG hunt before I go but I'm just not sure I want to spend the day watching my app. I just want to ride once out of the 3 days and i will leave orlando happy. What if saturday is like today. I just never imagined it wouldn't open.

By the way I've tried to be kind to CM. I spoke to RotR CM about those cool coats instead of asking why it wasn't open and smiled at the MFSR CM who told me single rider wasn't open. I tried to imagine they were someone's daughters.

Why would you need to spend the day watching your app? If you're planning on being at Epcot anyway just get your BG and walk over to Epcot for the start of their day and you can walk back when your BG is called if you choose to do so. The only thing you'll have given up is a couple hours sleep to get to DHS for opening. You'll have 2 hours to get back to DHS when called which should give you more than enough flexibility to do what you want at Epcot without worrying or planning your day around it. And frankly, if Friday is back to "normal" and you're there at park open, you'd have a good chance of getting a BG that would board before noon (and a decent shot at a few hours before that if the ride is operating well).

We're heading down Friday and may be playing some mornings a bit by ear. I know we'll be at DHS Sunday at rope drop but considering trying a second day especially after seeing a day like today and knowing we should take it when we can get it!

There is usually a breakfast line. The problem would be trying to find it with the crazy mobs of people...

Good point. Hmmm. Well, we have two days of the 8am H&V booked. Maybe one of the days will stay at a 9am opening. And, if not, I guess I will put on my pushy "coming through" yet very polite hat and do our best.

If Sat is your last or only shot, I'd try Friday too. Once you know your BG number, you'll have an idea about expected call back time. That 2 hour window leaves much leeway. It might be nice to use the Skyliner between parks.

I wish you the best luck :D

I'm really curious about updates since mlk is over, but more pertinently for myself in my family's upcoming trip... The first time my wife and I will be able to go on ROTR together will be after 6pm (on 2/2, Super Bowl Sunday, when the extra magic hours are PM and the park is open until 10pm) because we will have BABYSITTING :cool1:. So, if we got a BG that ended before 6pm we would miss it, or have to ride separately which we don't want to do. so... is there a strategy for intentionally getting an evening BG? Can you cancel a BG and pick up a new one if you wanted to?

Yes, someone did this just a few pages back. Of course, there's always the chance you'll end up without a boarding group at all by doing it that way, but if that's your best opportunity, go ahead and try. Keep in mind ROTR will not operate during EMH.

With BGs going in a minute the last two days, I wouldn't risk trying to intentionally get a later BG. You might end up with a backup group that never gets called or, worse, no BG at all.

Take what you get and if it looks like it's not going to fit in with the rest of your schedule, talk with a GET CM. They've been very accommodating.

I like this approach.
