*** Yay May! OFFICIAL MAY 2020 THREAD!!! Flowers are starting to bloom! ***

If you cancel your May trip (or the parks are still closed), you should get a refund. Assuming you cancel within the cancellation window. We booked a room only reservation so our cancellation day is within 4-5 days of the trip. They don't transfer the funds (to the best of my knowledge)...they will just refund it to your card.

If the May trip still happens (pretty please, with a cherry on top), you can cancel the backup reservation for a refund.

Edit: This is a room only reservation. I'm not sure of the details once you start adding in tickets.

Last I checked with Disney they were waving fees and giving full refunds for reservations booked up until 6/30. We are considering just canceling our reservation for the time being since we don’t know when we will reschedule for yet, and our TA requires final payment on 4/2. The stickler is my gf’s ticket which is a date based 10 day hopper she bought with the Canadian resident offer back in December. Disney will allow us to apply the value of that ticket to a new one. We just don’t know when we’re going now though.

I just read on another thread 2 interesting items. Someone with a trip in mid-April said that they were left a message by Disney regarding cancelling their trip-not a good sign :(

The other item was that there is a new policy in place stating that packages do not have to be paid for until 7 days before check in.

I do not have first hand experience of either of these, just wanted to post in case it's helpful to others.

I went ahead and booked a backup for October. With DD having asthma I just feel like at this point I would still be nervous to travel in early May. I figure fall will probably be packed but at this point I’ll take that over not going at all!!! We booked at CBR... not quite the Poly -bucket list idea I had to console myself over all of this, but I need to stick to a budget after the money I will have potentially lost renting points through David’s. Fingers crossed we get a refund but if not I am glad we have something affordable: And I’m already getting excited about the thought of MNSSHP (never done), and the Skyliner, seeing HarmoniUS, maybe free dining?!?! etc. Lots to be happy about provided this whole thing dies down and life is back to normal.

That's a wonderful positive attitude! Keep in mind that with the right plan, crowds don't matter. And you will have time to make those ADRs and FPs, so think of May planning as a test run :) MNSSHP is lots of fun-best parade/fireworks of the whole year! And I look for there to be discounts and/or free dining to entice people back to WDW.

We are scheduled to arrive May 31st. Was going to buy tickets this week for DH and myself as well as out two adult daughters. One daughter works in the service industry - lives 4 hours from us. All restaurants and bars now have to close their dining rooms. There goes her paycheck and the tips she needs to survive.

I am not cancelling our trip yet - but I am not buying those tickets either. Our daughter may need that 2K for her rent. This really really really Stinks - with that capital S!

I just booked a backup trip for September just in case... I've had a horrible 2019, and 2020 is no better.. this trip was my light at the end of the tunnel.. if it doesnt happen in May it WILL happen eventually!!!
I started looking at potentially labor day weekend or the weekend before. If we go, it probably would just be a weekend instead of a full week like we have planned now, but either way both are within 6 months, so I know I won't get all my dinning reservations I had hoped for...specifically Artist Point. That makes me the saddest. looks like such a cool place to dine.

Or...maybe we wait for my birthday in January, skip the cruise that I was thinking about and just doing a few days at Disney then. Too many unknowns though whether we should even try in the next year.

I too am looking at backup dates. I also have a reservation and tickets for Disneyland in Mid June for my grandson/ grandma trip (his birthday celebration). That too may not happen, hoping both work out. I know they will somehow whether we get to go as planned or rescheduling.

I booked a Sept trip after the 180 days and was able to pickup an Artist Point ADR. People like to say that you can only get some of those difficult ADRs at the six month mark but that isn’t always true. I had more trouble getting a Sci-Fi Dine-In and had to try a completely different day. And you can try TouringPlans reservation finder. It’s free and doesn’t hurt to try.

It may have just been the week I was looking, I was looking everyday from the saturday before labor day to the friday after and didn't see any available, but good to hear they're not impossible :)

Hi fellow May, now possibly Sept. peep. We too booked our backup trip for mid September. I was bummed at first about possibly not going in May, but I look on the bright side, i just booked my ADR’s, Big Thunder will be back!!, Rat ride will be open, maybe Space 220 will be open and we have never done MNSSHP so will pick that up (even though i will horribly miss my AH’s events and i will miss a last ride on Spaceship Earth)
Now I have until July to devise my fastpass plans. I am getting excited again!

Ha! I wonder how many of us May trips are becoming September trips. Great minds...

I have back up trip for August planned but the more I think about the heat and humidity, I'm now leaning towards May 2021. Originally we didn't know what our youngest's job situation would be next May (he graduates college in December) but he has actually already accepted a position and will be able to take vacation time next May...really have given up hope for this May.

Sept is my backup, backup plan. I have a backup for June set up but if that doesn’t work out, I may just switch to Sept.
This is exactly my plan! I’m going to book a trip the week of June 14th tomorrow and if for some reason THAT doesn’t work out I’ll move it to September. I can’t believe we even have to make a backup plan to our backup plan!! o_O

We did a room only reservation for May, so we did the $200 deposit. But haven’t paid anything else for the room. However, we spent a bunch of money on park tickets because we bought those already through Disney, we did park hoppers. Anyone who has already cancelled their May trip...do you know if you can get your money back for the park tickets? We are not sure about rescheduling yet, unless we absolutely have to because of the park tickets that we bought. We would rather get the money back right now and make plans in the future.

Southwest flighst went down again. We now have $84 in credit each. Great, except they expire Sept 2 and wont be able to use it (still got it cause why not?). If we have to cancel the entire trip then the entire flight amount would expire before we all could use it.

Rebooking is a nightmare for us. DH can only travel in May and early Nov, but my mom cannot go in Nov. DD is graduating HS this year and we are not sure when her new program starts, but thinking Sept.

I could take DD for her birthday in Aug but DH would not be able to go. We have 8 day tickets so even if DH could swing a short trip we would either lose money on the tickets or have to buy shorter ones. Did I mention we already have Hawaii booked for next May? I love Disney but would not be happy to cancel Hawaii for it.
