If you really need to get her attention, unplug the internet :D
Seriously, sounds like a hard worker, though!

Yes, she is a hard worker. She started in this department at 18 and studied at the same time. She now has her former boss's (who hired her) position. Boss retired a few years back. She's done really well. I got a great compliment one time from the Dean of the department. She asked me if I had any more children that could come work for her!

She pays for the internet and the router/cable stuff is all up there. I just have a TV box down here.

House passed stimulus bill :)
when do they start mailing checks?

Piggybacking on this: Since I've been paying each year, not collecting refunds, will I end up with a check, or will they somehow have my bank account from the checks I've sent in? Not really expecting a definitive answer here, and actually expecting a check, hopefully in time for Xmas!

I looked at Instacart first, but I didn't like the stores that use it here. The three I remember were Publix, CVS, and Aldis.

I had to come back on this - how can you possibly like Target over Publix?? And I personally prefer Aldi to what's in Target's produce aisle. I know this is a personal type thing, and I've shopped at Target lots of times, but mostly with a gift card and rarely found much extra value.

Plus, Publix has the bakery!! Again - just a personal opinion! (Which I couldn't keep to myself.)

It’s hard being Chinese right now.

I am so, so sorry. Even before things blew up here in NYC, Asian NYers were feeling the brunt--our City Council leader held a press conference encouraging people to come to Chinatown because the businesses there were suffering due to stigma. At my agency we saw an uptick in discrimination reports from Chinese New Yorkers. It's sad and scary and reminds me of 9/11. I was in college at the time, and remember walking my Muslim classmate home because she was scared to walk the streets alone with hijab. Muslim shops in my neighborhood had US flags flying just to keep them from being vandalized. Fear does ugly things to people.

I live in Brooklyn and for my last grocery run I intentionally went to Brooklyn's Chinatown even though it's out of my way. The stores have everything ever on the shelves but more than that, these are small business owners just grateful for the help. As a queer Black woman especially I feel like it's my duty. I know what it's like to be othered and blamed. We should be coming together and looking out for each other in times like these. Having to deal with the same scary stuff that everyone is, and then adding racism to it...it's just too much.

It might be faster to pick up from the White House yourself! :rotfl2: In all seriousness, I don't think anyone knows WHEN yet...

I had previously read that if you filed and had a refund direct deposited, they would use that bank information. Not sure about the reverse scenario you describe, ie. owing and mailing a check. Obviously direct deposits of the stimulus will be much faster. If you have to await a check it could take weeks.

when do they start mailing checks?

I'm hearing something like 2-3 weeks for direct deposit, 2-3 months if they have to mail a check.

I'm trying to keep up with this..... do we need to apply for this,or is it an automatic thing?

Like havaneselover said, it's automatic

If the IRS (nor SS Administration, if retired) don't know your banking information, then I think they will have to mail a check.

I wonder how far back they look? We have paid the last couple years, but in the past had a refund direct deposited.

I’m waiting to deal with United until they make a change to our flights also. We have a DLP pkg too that I’d like to get a full refund on, but missing the current dates allowed a full refund by less than a week, I believe. Air bnb also...hoping for cancellation grace from them as well eventually. I have about a month until my pay in full dates, so waiting patiently to cancel until it is most advantageous.

Love for your actions. Sad for those who are suffering.

not yet collecting social security - but now see a good reason to start sooner rather than later. I'm retired and have medicare as well as health benefits from my former job, but figured I'd wait a few years and just have not gotten around to collecting. I'm pretty passive about money anyway.

There's no doubt in my mind the 'government' has my banking info - somewhere - lol! Just not as a venue to deposit refunds for me.

This is a pretty rare event, so I'm not sure I would start taking SS just for this, especially if you don't need the money right now. I think by not taking SS, your benefit increases by 5% every year from 62 to Full Retirement Age, then 8% for every year after that up to 72.

Finally went ahead and canceled my July flights. JetBlue has been fantastic for us through this. For July I had 2 one ways booked, one a Blue Extra on TrueBlue points, and the other a standard Blue on cash. I talked to a crewmember via chat and it was quick, painless, and everything was refunded no questions asked including my points. The Even More Space upcharges got put back on my JetBlue Plus card. Taxes in the travel bank as a credit good for a year. Very satisfied with their service.

I actually have a fairly unusual situation. I could be drawing of my ex's account and letting mine grow meanwhile. I never remarried and met the time requirements, etc. It also wouldn't impact my ex's payments either. Social Security itself was the source of this information - they even gave me a number that I would receive each month. I needed to return to the office with my marriage certificate and my divorce decree that was certified or something. I had to be 62 by end of 2015 for this - I turned 62 Jan of 2015. After 2015 this scenario no longer exists as far as I know. My benefit was definitely larger than my ex's, so I would be opting to switch to my own benefit.

Yes, it grows over time, but last time I looked (in January) it was until age 70. Just not sure how much the fact that I'm now retired and not earning or matching the rate of my earnings has affected this growth. I keep meaning to get that explained to me. I did check the statement in January after my birthday, and the online statement had taken a sizable jump since I retired.

I'll probably get to it next year if I make it through C. If I don't they will just have to be happy with the $255 and my death policy from my job! That'll bury me and then some.

I clicked on the envelope in the Twitter App at the bottom of the screen, then the other envelope for 'new message' and entered @AmericanAir to compose my message.

As an aside, I also saw the option to cancel on the AA website - with the same message that my miles would be safe - but it wasn't clear if they would redeposit my miles or hold them for a future booking (which doesn't make sense on a miles booking) - but I had seen conflicting accounts online.
Thanks for the tips. I sent a DM a couple of hours ago and just checked and my miles are in my account!!! They will refund the charges to my card. They mentioned in their response that the miles redeposit wasn’t automatic and had to be requested.
Trying to see when we might be comfortable to travel and I’m seeing a lot of award availability at good times for about 20k so 3.5k less than what I paid before. That will give me an extra free ticket for the future. Now to see how this pans out.

Publix is extremely overpriced in my opinion and I’ve never had any issues with produce from target. I definitely wouldn’t be buying anything from a bakery right now. We don’t normally get stuff from the bakery anyway though. Normally we get groceries from Walmart but they have less options right now than target as far as what can be delivered in my area
