You don’t find it all strange that the media paints a very different picture. Believe what you want. You do you. It's not that people don't believe you, there are people in this thread/on these boards that have been laid off etc because of this. It also makes sense. They're telling people not to go to the ER unless it's an emergency becauae we all know a lot of the people that go don't have tru emergencies but don't have a dr etc. People may also be going to urgent care, tele med or the dr.
And I'm not teying to start yet another argument but just because people are getting reduced hours and laid off and ERs are empty in parts of the country doesn't mean that it's that way all over. We don't all need to experience it first hand to underatand it's both terrible in places and not an issue (yet) elsewhere. I don't need to personally have flown to space to know we've put people on the moon...
Officially laid off this week (nurse here, hours were cut last week), so I'm trying to navigate the unemployment thing, we'll see how that goes. I don't think DH is too sad, he works from home, kids are home, and he wasn't excited for me to go out to work during this. So I won't be hopping a bus to NYC to help out, and feel no guilt for it. Our state seems to be doing ok, people are taking the social distancing seriously, for the most part.
My mom is driving me a little crazy. She's super bored and calling a lot. We're running out of things to talk about. Nope, nothing new in the past 3 hrs, since I talked to you last...
Maybe I’m just not looking at the same media as you, but I don’t think the media is painting a hysteria picture. I haven’t seen any reporting indicating that all hospitals are overwhelmed at this point. As far as I can tell, they seem to be reporting on the cases where the hospitals are in fact overwhelmed. Hospital ships and field hospitals were not deployed and built to further some media hysteria conspiracy. And since all of this is the result of a virus, just because it hasn’t happened in your area yet or all over, it seems responsible to report on the places where it is actually happening to prepare others for what might come their way.You don’t find it all strange that the media paints a very different picture. Believe what you want. You do you.
I don’t know what area you work in, but jobs should come back as soon this blows over. I won’t be hoping on a bus to NYC anytime soon and absolutely no guilt over it either. Thank God I didn’t go per diem like I wanted to. I’d be out of work or I would be on a bus to NYC.Officially laid off this week (nurse here, hours were cut last week), so I'm trying to navigate the unemployment thing, we'll see how that goes. I don’t think people it’s that people don’t believe you...just that this is definitely hitting some places way harder than others.....it’s horrible here on LI...I went shopping yesterday and don’t plan on going again ....if we need something my daughter has offered to get it when she or her DH go...we are both over 60, but otherwise fine...https://www.insidesources.com/unexpected-consequence-of-covid-19-crisis-empty-emergency-rooms/Thought some of you that don’t believe me might like this.
I assume this was 17500 Virgin miles, and on that basis - award flight bookings with Virgin Atlantic can usually be canceled for a redeposit fee of $50. Virgin is being a bit sneaky by leaving many flights in the schedule and then canceling at the last minute - presumably to minimise the demand for refunds.
So there is no harm in leaving it for a while to see what happens - your worst case if you want to cancel before Virgin should be $50 loss taken out of your refund of taxes.
We disagree let’s just leave it at that.Maybe I’m just not looking at the same media as you, but I don’t think the media is painting a hysteria picture. And I don’t say any of this to start a fight. That really is not my intention. I understand being upset by the whole situation, I’m just wondering what I am missing, because I don’t see an overblown hysteria in the media.

I’ve been using rags more often than paper towels. If there’s one thing this has taught me, it’s that I’m very wasteful with paper towels normally.
I will need to cancel my daughter's early June flight to London on Virgin America (booked in February). Her flight was 17,500 points + $275 in taxes/fees. Is the consensus to simply sit tight in hopes that they will cancel the flight and issue a refund?
Did you buy flour at Costco? If so, how do you keep it fresh?
We had it on our list last week but didn't want to buy it in bulk at Costco, and of course the regular grocery store didn't have any.
That’s our Costco too. Always a zoo even with no pandemic going on. I’ve never used Instacart and she hadn’t either so who knows if she’s able to get a time...? She said she was ‘waiting on a time slot’.
Yeah I'd guess age. AZ is PACKED with retirees...
I’m definitely happy to do that.We disagree let’s just leave it at that.

We won some cheap minion rags in japan last year out of a claw machine. Those have been my go to lolI should probably start doing this. I actually use paper towels in the kitchen because I don't share hand towels! But I could get another hand towel out and just wash it frequently and especially if I see any of the BOYS in my house using it!
I'm not traveling until November... but this is what I am waiting for also. Waiting sadly.
Freeze it! I actually store it in large tupperware canisters (the cubic/rectangular type) so they stack nicely and aren't weird shapes.
Yeah, our Costco is the busiest in the state, according to the receipt checker lady. That's why I've been avoiding it!
Especially at this time of year! Eeeek!

Well I was alive when that song came out, but wouldn’t have been conscious of it as I was 2. I can see how hurricane news for those inland would be annoying. But a virus, in our globalized society, is a little different than a hurricane. It’s not going to fizzle out after so many miles inland. But, I also can only take so much before I have to turn it off. But that is to keep sane and not because I find it to be overblown.I believe that bad new sells-you're likely too young to remember Don Henley's song Dirty Laundry but bad news sells better than good news. I limit my reading to professional journals and discussing this with my peers and colleagues. That said, whatever happens in my small town (with only 1 death) is not interesting to the US as a whole. So many communities within a region, state and of course the country are affected differently so for some of us we don't relate to the news on the West Coast or NYC...just as people on the cruise boards are annoyed, more than anything, with our perpetual hurricane news in the late summer/early fall.
I’m so sorry you got laid off! Hopefully when you’re ready to work, you’ll find the right place for youOfficially laid off this week (nurse here, hours were cut last week), so I'm trying to navigate the unemployment thing, we'll see how that goes. Passport times are increased due to the covid thing. We’re going on 4 weeks for my kids new passports. I don’t know about renewals but I’d give it some extra time. I think offices might be closed. With our passports expiring in Aug, does anyone know the process in case I need to end up going to DC to get them renewed?
