Saw a lot of fun memes, gifs and quotes from Independence Day yesterday on Facebook. For those that haven’t seen it, it’s an incredibly well done documentary on how Will Smith saved us all from the aliens many years ago. That’s one of my favorite stories from history! 🤣

Well, some of you might not remember this, but President Whitmore’s speech inspired me to make a post back on 5/24 day last year (the unofficial churning holiday). Since we are light on CC content lately here’s a fun trip down memory lane from 5/24/2019:

The clock strikes midnight here on the east coast...Happy 5/24 day to all my fellow DISchurner friends!

Yes it was on this day in 2016 (wow was it really 3 years ago) that Chase extended their much maligned 5/24 rule to most of their co-brand cards. *In truth this happened on May 23rd, 2016 but churners like to remember it as 5/24/16 with Chase flipping a figurative middle finger at the churning community...

Has any rule change ever affected our beloved game as much as 5/24? In my opinion, I'd clearly say no. Chase 5/24 is far-reaching, affects every churner, and becomes a factor in the strategy from day 1 of all those who choose to pursue the churner path. Chase is only rivaled by American Express in its depth and breadth of card line-up both in terms of their in-house Ultimate Rewards program and extensive co-brand lineup. When first enacted in June of 2015, the 5/24 rule was an instant game changer. However, the extension to co-brands killed dreams of future companion passes for churners far and wide and thus 5/24/16 is a sad day.

So why is it that I say "Happy 5/24 day..." Well my friends - it is still a happy day because the churning game is still alive and well. It is different than it was in 2015 no doubt...BUT it is not dead! Often the "churning chicken littles" of the world will come around trumpeting the demise of churning due to economic factors, data factors, etc. but time and again they are proven wrong because we are churners and we don't give up. I close with a short speech:

Good evening. In less than 8 hours, DISchurners here will join churners from around the world. And we will continue to churn cards in honor of all churning-kind. churning-kind -- that word should have new meaning for all of us today.
We can't be consumed by our petty differences over cpp anymore.
We will be united in our common interests to hammer card issuers with new accounts.
Perhaps its fate that today is the the 24th of May, and us churners will once again be fighting for our freedom, not from auto-denials, recon calls, or clawbacks -- but from annihilation.
We fight for our right to churn, to earn.
And when we win the day, the 24th of May will no longer be known as a sad churner holiday, but as the day when the churning declared in one voice:
We will not go pending into the night!
We will not be Bonvoyed without a fight!
We're going to churn on!
We're going to travel for free!
Today, we celebrate 5/24 Day!!

That is my favorite documentary, LOL, I can pretty much recite it. But my personal favorite piece of wisdom...yes yes, without the oops :-)

I don't think you have to wait a year to pc back to something though many do but you might want to also consider when you'll want the csr. If you can use what it has now it may be better to do it or if you only want to wait a few months. The way the banks are tightening some things I don't know that I'd be as comfortable pcing it to a freedom product and then 5 months later to a csr as I would have been 6 months ago.
I have no travel plans until November and given the current situation that may not happen either. I have no use for the current CSR offers. I really don't know what to do.

I just called on July 2 to PC my CSP to a CF. I was also offered the regular Sapphire, but went with a CF even though I already have one. Thought about cancelling it altogether, but I have a purchase on it that may get cancelled and refunded so thought it would be easier to keep the account # open for a while. DH has a CFU and I will probably open one of those with with a support link from him, I think it's $100 for him and $200 for me with minimum spend. We have very little upcoming travel also, but he has a CSR which will be up for renewal in August

where did you see that? I see 5X on gas stations and Instacart deliveries.

It wasn't announced by Chase but I saw a video on youtube about it. I checked my CSP and sure enough a $5 McDonalds run on the 1st gave me 15 pts.

Huh. I hate secret benefits just like I hate secret warranties on cars. Had a leaky head gasket on a Subaru several years ago that luckily my mechanic was aware of and sent me to a dealer to have it fixed for free. BOO Chase.

I just saw an email that reminded me that my Citi Premier is giving 3x on groceries. Are there any other cards giving extra on groceries currently? I can't keep track of all the changes!

Does it post as a bonus later? Looking to see if Fred's codes as grocery with Citi, since it doesn't with Amex, and it does! But it only shows 13 points for my 12 something purchase that was on July 2. I just got the card last month so I hadn't seen anything about groceries being 3x, which would be great since they do actually code it as groceries. My restaurants has posted as 2x.

That is interesting. I've been using Amex gold for dining. Nice of them to let us know.

I added the shop small Amex offer to my Aspire and it is stacking with the current dining credits (in lieu of $250 resort credits).
I added it to my gold and just used it at Bruster’s (ice cream). I wish they had a better way to identity small businesses. The map is kind of a pain.

My company treated us to air pods Since we are on calls or go-to-meeting all day so I went and picked them up at Costco today. I can’t imagine spending $140 on them but they are nice. Also grabbed a $200 visa gift card at Staples. Tried to grab three since they had no sign but I was told only one.

Ds went swimming with his phone in his pocket on vacation. Thankful I paid for Apple care plus. New phone coming this week.

I added it to my Rose Gold also and it credited twice for the salt water taffy purchases but not yet for the seafood restaurant which was listed on the map. I know there are a couple of places near me that it always credits for plus they are on the ma so I'll do a couple of runs to those, which I usually do anyway.

My Keurig wouldn't make my coffee this morning. Guess I'll be buying a new coffee maker very soon.

So dd and I are laughing. We are watching Hamilton. Last time we watched it together (in Chicago) DS sighed through it. This time he opted out but the dog won't stop panting.

I worked all weekend, so I missed out on the theatre talk!
Some of my favorites that I have seen have already been mentioned, but I’ll list anyways.
Beautiful, Jersey Boys, Wicked, If/Then ( just because I love Idina!) Dear Evan Hansen, Spring Awakening, I could go on.
All of my kids were in drama club in HS. My favorite show was Sound of Music because all three of them were in it together! What a great experience. Next was Shrek- which I didn’t think I would like but the music is actually really good. And my son was Shrek his senior year, so that was a proud moment.

How long does Landry's Select take to activate? I signed up last week and hoping I'll have something, app or card, by Friday. I'm fine with the app if I don't get the card in time, correct?
