Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

Bottom line is that the magic is really 'within'. If you feel the magic within, then the magic exists. Masks, lack of parades/fireworks, or whatever doesn't kill the magic.

I agree that DL is more magical for me than WDW, but that's (as I've said before) because DL is bound up in my childhood and my children's childhoods. I expect someone who spent their childhood at WDW would feel differently. WDW is a different kind of magical to me since I've only experienced it as an adult. But both places are just as magical as I let them be.
Agree. I’ve spent more time as a child and teenager at Disneyland. So it will always be my home. I went to WDW when I was 5 and 7, and I barely remember those trips. I went to WDW again earlier this year as an adult, and while it was amazing, I didn't get that sense of warmth I get when I go to DL.

I think that's the difference! WDW is Disney magic and fun and exciting and I do love it. But DL is all those plus the warmth of 'coming home'.

I remember telling a friend that at WDW I feel like a child again, but at DL I AM a child again.

Almost there --- stay on target --

More Magical? "Disney Magic" WDW probably--more bubble experience and immersive and duration of time

"family magic" DLR - being 1.5 hour away door-to-door, it's great family reconnect time and then small space to allow quick break offs and meet ups again throughout the stay and back home again. Rinse-repeat monthly/quarterly.

Enjoy the car time just as much as the DLR time.

I’m actually moving to the Orlando area next month. Was really hoping to visit my “home” one last time before I left but that’s looking less and less likely by the day. So besides moving Into my new actual home, I’ll also be adjusting to having a new ”home” park at WDW.

... I didn't get that sense of warmth I get when I go to DL.
We have a friend whose home park is TDL. She'd been to WDW several times, but then we took her to DLR for her first visit. At the end of her first day at DL, I asked her what she thought. (She'd been pretty quiet, which was rather unusual for her!) Her answer, with a huge smile after a weighted pause, "I love it. I feel Walt here." Yes, I think that sums it up for so many of us, too.

In hindsight, WDW is too much work. 🤣 Disneyland is just so easy. When everything is back to normal someday, we may go back to WDW, but I think our hearts will forever belong to Disneyland and the west coast after the past 18 months here, even after we move back to Texas.
I grew up in South Florida and WDW was what we did. I did Grad Night and church trips, etc. We took our kids back in 2015 when they were 5 and 3 and it was so much work. I literally had posters on my wall the weeks before mapping everything out to ensure we had fast passes that worked with their schedules plus the meals, etc. And then of course, the day comes, you are so excited for Be Our Guest and one kid falls asleep on the table and the other goes screaming through the restaurant and you have to chase them down, and all that magic is gone.

Granted they are older now but we did DL the last two years and it's so much easier.
Now that WDW has stopped the FP+ advance reservations, this may be an opportunity to rethink the way that all works. As many have indicated, getting FP's the "day of" is so much more flexible. Some have pointed out that currently WDW feels a lot more like DL in that respect. Very little planning needed (well, you can't even do those advance things). I know there are some who really like getting up early 6 months in advance and booking FP's for 3 rides per day at specific time slots. They indicate that they like the reassurance that they will be able to ride those things at those times. For me that just seems too intense.

The DL method of getting passes the day of is really simple. And I don't see why you would not be able to get the equivalent value out of that at WDW. Maybe it would need some tweaking to work well for everyone at WDW, but if there was ever a time to revamp the system, it is now.

Different topic - but worthy for WDW to explore. We like both ways. WDW is simply a different beast with lots of international and long term planning involved. 180 days for dining is a bit much though

Numbers ever so slightly decreased again today. 8.9% test positivity. 125.1/100,000 (yesterday was 125.2)

Seems we have turned the corner and are on the downswing for real.
Is that the 7 day rolling average or the daily results?

Well idk if this is new information to anyone or not, but I’m hearing at DtD that CMs are starting to take surveys about the procedures and how people feel about a the parks reopening/how likely they are to come to the reopening and how they would feel if parks were open now. I also coincidentally received a survey from Disney this morning via email regarding the same thing. I can’t tell if they’re just covering some ground or truly preparing for an opening in the near future. Time will tell! I’m staying positive on this!!

Well, you're doing better than Reno. Our rolling 14 day is 250.1. We don't have a positivity number and no specific metrics for opening/closing. Our schools open in 2 weeks with all elementary going full time. Middle and high school are 50/50. All casinos are open too. I wish Sisolek would set similar parameters. If Disneyland can't open with over 100 per 100K, we shouldn't even consider opening our schools. At least Disneyland is mostly outdoors and what is indoors can be either closed or closely monitored for capacity. I keep hoping it will be open for our October trip. Even though OBB is cancelled, that'll mean later hours for DCA. In the meantime, I know we are all watching WDW and their COVID numbers. It seems that there are no spikes due to their reopening. Kudos to the CMs who are enforcing masks and social distancing!

Mouseplanet is reporting Disneyland Resort Hotel bookings have now been pushed back for a start date of September 5.

Not surprised. OC hasn't yet met the thresholds. When they do they'll have to be off the monitor list for 2 weeks before they can even petition the State with their plan to move forward. Then time for the State to approve + time for DL to come to an agreement with OC, etc.

IMHO any dates set by Disney for hotel reservations are just 'placeholders' and have no significance as far as presaging an actual reopening.
