Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

I'm starting to have serious FOMO about changing from the Poly this summer. Yes, the Riviera looks amazing and would be wonderful...but the Poly is the Poly! I ended up changing my Feb trip back to the Poly (in a studio obviously) because that's where I'd initially booked and that's where my heart was..and that's how I'm feeling about it now if I'm being honest. I know I *could* go ahead and book a Studio and know that was that. What I'm pondering at the moment is booking a resort room and giving my TA instructions that if she gets word that the rooms are not going to be available she immediately move me to a Studio if available...

It is hard isn't it. What would concern me is getting a studio if poly resort didn't open as planned. Book both and cancel as needed. It is the only way to sleep at night and not dis-worry.

My TA will try for what I need but I still have back ups just in case. Ya never know, especially this past year.

Yeah, prior to switching to Riviera I was going to make a list of places I would be willing to move to and places that were a last resort only.

Would I be able to have her do two packages in my name and then just cancel whichever one I don't use even though I'm solo and only have one MDE account? I'd rather have only the $200 package deposit tied up than the room night. If so, that's a good idea!

It’s so hard to know what to do. If I remember correctly, you would be arriving on opening day of the resort side. I’m questioning myself about splitting our current 13-night reservation at the Beach Club with the Poly and our trip is only in August. I just don’t know what to do either. We just love the Poly and we haven’t stayed in a few years, so we really want to stay there. I wonder if they’ll just open up the resort rooms that are done by the potential opening date even if all the rooms and the rest of the renovations aren’t completed. I’m no help, sorry! Good luck with whatever you decide.

Thanks. Yes - my first day in July 19 (with my birthday being July 20), which is the first day they are taking reservations. Yeah, that is my thinking. They appeared to be working primarily on Tuvalu, Fiji, and Aeotearoa (and I guess Tonga) a bit more, though there were walls up around some entrances to the longhouses on the DVC side as well. So it seemed like they may be able to open at least one side. I could just do a studio because I know I like that...but a lot of the FOMO comes from Moana being my favorite and really wanting to see what they're doing with that!!

(It has also occurred to me that a big benefit of the Riviera is the Skyliner, and the summer is prime thunderstorm time, so I'd likely be losing a lot of that benefit possibly every day.)

As I’ve watched things progress, this is what I currently think may happen. By 7/19 they’ll be done with some longhouses but not all of them, and the monorail station will still be under construction.

Who knows of course - construction has a way of coming together quickly sometimes... but sitting here on what is almost 3/1, 4.5 months seems like it go by quick.

And we’re entering a period of longer MK/monorail hours, which means even less time per day that any work directly around the monorail platform can occur.

I need to go back and look, when did construction on the three west longhouses start?

I'm also thinking that they feel pretty confident in having at least some of the Poly ready to go since they're taking the A-Frame rooms in the Contemporary out for refurb as well. You'd think they would not want to lose basically two MK-area resorts, so they must be fairly confident in having the Poly done - at least mostly.

I did notice that the resort-only side buildings had ALL the windows covered. The resort room buildings on the DVC side appeared to be in prep mode - in some cases you could see mattresses turned up on their sides or furniture not there or pushed to the center as if being prepped to be removed, but no coverings on those windows yet. Which makes me think they are focusing on the non-DVC side pretty heavy right now but still getting the others ready so that as soon as the non-DVC side is done they can transfer people to the other buildings and get them in.

I think I've talked myself into switching back. LOL. NOW to decide which view. LOL.

Coffee at Poly? Guilty as charged for being somewhat of a coffee snob! We stayed at Beach Club 2 years ago and they had a nice coffee stand where you could get an Americano, latte, etc., beyond the traditional Joffrey's.

Does anyone know if the Poly has anything similar for early morning, pre-park, caffeine needs? Thanks.

Pre Covid there was a coffee bar upstairs next to Kona Cafe, but it's not available right now. Since Covid the space is being used as an extension of Kona Cafe and even I was there in December, was a staging area for wait staff.
That said, I also saw one person inquire at the check in stand and was able to get a latte to go, but it seemed like it was a bit of a hassle to do.

Not really what I was hoping to read, but thank you for the prompt information!

Does anyone have helpful things to consider when picking a preferred view room? Fiance and I are planning a trip in May and thinking about trying a non-standard studio for the first time. All comments are appreciated!

Studios are only Standard View or Lake/TPV.

We always request Tokelau 3rd floor when staying in a studio at the Poly. It is close to the Oasis pool. It is also a nice compromise for walking to TTC and GCH. Below is our view from room 3913. This is a standard view 559863
