Woohoo!! I stepped out of my comfort zone and called Chase Recon about my denied SW Priority App. The lady was so nice, I explained that I messed up and must look like a crazy lady applying for too many cards. I told her exactly why I really wanted the SW card because I'll be flying SW a lot to see my elderly mother who just had surgery, this is 100% true and that I really could use the perks of the Priority card.

She moved credit from another card and said the new card will be here within 3-5 days!! Yay!

Now I'm laying off the apps for 6 months. DH just got the Venture X so we'll work on getting that spend done!
Congrats party:

Okay folks, we need another SUP to throw some big spending at it! We've decided to buy more DVC points (at BLT this time to have a MK resort), direct from Disney.

DH just got his Amex Plat so that can take up a bit. I'm going to ask for our payments to be split into three (90 day closing plan) so that I can get a CC now, meet the SUP, and then in a month and a half either try to convince DH to get another (would be best but may be hard) or get another myself if it's not too soon. The overall cost will still be more and I'll throw some into my Disney Visa to get 6 months 0%, but I'm trying to maximize CC rewards if possible. I do worry about my velocity, though, having gotten 2 SW Biz cards not too long ago. We're each at 3/24 with Chase. Here are our cards:

P1:
Long ago: Disney Visa, Amazon, Bank of America Cash Rewards, Amex Blue Cash (AU), SW Priority (AU)
6/21: CSR + CSP
9/21: Amex Plat
11/21: SW Biz Performance
12/21: SW Biz Premier (woohoo CP!)

P2:
Long ago: Disney Visa, Capital One Quicksilver, Amex Blue Cash, SW Priority
7/21: CSR + CSP
1/22: Amex Plat

What card(s) do ya'll recommend? Is there anything with an elevated bonus rn? Before this I was thinking of trying for a Hyatt card with Chase to join the bandwagon and since we're staying at several Hyatts this year anyway. But perhaps I should go for something like a CIP since the MSR on that isn't even half the cost of the purchase. I do worry about my velocity having gotten 2 Biz cards one month apart in Nov and Dec. Thanks for any pointers!

Question . . . what happens to cash back from a Chase offer if you return part of the original purchase? I just got my Away order, and I like the small carry-on/tote that I got, but I'm not a fan of the larger bag that I ordered. If I return the larger bag and keep the tote, I'll be well under the $500 to get the $200 off. Will they claw back the $200? I'm not sure I've ever had a return with a Chase offer, and definitely never with a cash back this significant. I like the tote, but don't really want to keep it at full price.

(And while perhaps I should feel guilty if the $200 doesn't get clawed back, I don't, because I bought a different Away suitcase in December. I thought I'd like the new one better, but I don't, so I'm keeping the December suitcase and returning the new one. So I did spend over $500 with Away in either case, just not during the offer period.)

It looks a little soon for another Chase card for you. Your DH could do it though.

You might be able to pull up a 150k offer for $15k spend for the biz plat ($695 AF). You can see if you can get that with your DH's support.

The Venture X is a good SUB, but that would put you at 4/24 until June 2023. Approval can be unpredictable too. If you want to stay at 4/24 to continue getting Chase biz cards, this is basically your last slot to play with.

If you value Hilton FNC, the Hilton biz is 130k plus an FNC. Spend 15k total and you have another FNC.

Yay, congrats!

I've been away from the CC world for a good piece. What's the Venture X? And what are the rewards best for? Thanks :)
The Venture X is Capital One's new travel card designed to compete with the CSR. They have some great earnings, good travel partners and a few of the credits that can make it really good. It also has a high MSR for the SUB and since it's Cap One, a HP on all three reports.

Southwest changed my flight to a bad connection. When I went to change it I saw that prices had dropped. I used the one time change and picked a lower priced flight thinking that it would automatically refund me the points, but it didn't. Is that the way it's supposed to work?

When I went back into the reservation after the change to try to change to the same flight to get the difference, it did show a refund, but a lessor amount than it should be. So I ended up canceling and rebooking. Saved almost 14k points each!
I had this same situation with SW on Sun evening. I realized before I confirmed the change that was not crediting the points so I just cancelled and rebooked. But then it wouldn't let me rebook my juvenile nephew's ticket so I had to call. I guess mistakenly, that agent told me I could have done exactly what you did and it would have auto credited me when I changed the flight. Glad I didn't do it that way since it didn't work for you.

I’m about to buy tickets from Barcelona to london on Vueling. I really have no good options,
I need a low cost flight from Paris to Rome and then Rome to Barcelona. That is one of the airlines I am considering. Anybody have any do's/don'ts for the low cost European airlines?

Is 5% off the only good Disney Gift Card deal going on right now? Trying to save up for
upcoming Wish cruise later in the year.

I read the gift card thread and seems like there is nothing. Although that gift card deal site
doesn't look to bad except they are sold out all the time and may be sketchy. Sigh! Even my
local Sams Club had 500 GC for.....485! Even they aren't offering much of a bargain.
I've purchased from that site plenty of times. Its legit. You can sign up for email notifications for whenthey are in stock but they go quick. Also the delivery time is a month so order early.

Ditto. I also love gift card deal. I always set a reminder on my calendar for 31 days after I purchase, send them a text via the chat on their website, and I get the gift cards within a day or two. I agree that you should sign up for email notifications. I even made their email address a "favorite" on my phone so that I'd get a special pop-up notification when an email from them comes in - they go FAST. But it's hard to beat 16%. (The most glorious was when PayPal was the 5% CFF category, and I paid via PayPal Key to get an extra 5% off!)

Okay, so a bunch of Capital One questions (we've only had relationships with Chase, Amex, and Discover):
  • The travel partners look pretty good. Has anyone transferred CapOne points to a partner? Anything to be aware of?
  • Is there much available through their CapOne Travel portal? $300 is a big credit and almost covers the AF (we would not be using their lounges).
  • Is CapOne "picky" about who they give cards to? Like do they prefer people who carry debt or not? Both of us have credit scores > 820 and we have a high household income with only a mortgage.
  • Is there a problem with HPs from all three agencies? We haven't had one from anywhere in, gosh, almost 2 years.
Thanks to anyone who can help or point me to a good blog post somewhere.

I can answer two of these - the Capital One travel portal is much like the Chase travel portal, so a wide variety of availability from all of the major carriers and hotels. We used our credit for Delta flights booked through their portal.
As to who gets approved - CapOne is notoriously finicky, but not in any way that anyone (even the miles and points “experts”) can seem to figure out. Lots of data points of folks with high credit scores getting denied, and folks with not as stellar credit getting approved. Doesn’t seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason. DH got instantly approved, but I consider us lucky in that regard!

Is the idea once you receive is to add it to one of your other cards as soon as you can? In other
words dont let it sit for months (like i do)?

Looking for ways to maximize points to payoff a car.
option 1 - use CIU 1.5x with plastiq.
Option 2 - is there a way to buy VGC/MGC with CIC and use on plastiq for 5x? Option 3 - buy VGC/MGC with CIC and figure out MOs?

After the cashier accused me of money laundering at DG when I was loading my serve, I am not sure about MOs. Also, I’d rather utilize an on-line,socially distanced option if possible! Advice?
Option 1 - You'd lose 1.35% (2.85 - 1.5) using Plastiq. Even if you have a CSP or CSR multiplier, it's less than 2.85. Better to pay by check.
Option 2 - Plastiq no longer accepts prepaid cards for payment, at least the ones I've bought from office supply stores.
Option 3 - Maybe your best bet? This is very YMMV depending on what ms is like in your area, and nobody can tell you what will work in your neck of the woods. You just have to try it out and see. I'm still loading my cards at WM since I don't have DG or FD near me.

They've offered transfers to travel partners for the last couple years on the Venture card. I've never heard anything worse about it than I have Chase or AMEX.
IIRC, Cap One uses Hopper as their travel portal if you want to go out and take a look. The only negative thing I've heard is that they don't offer a way to input your car rental program number into it. So even though you get Hertz President's Circle with the card, if you book through their portal you can't utilize any of the benefits.
CapOne can be picky but as @iujen94 pointed out above, no one has any idea what they are picky about. There are many borderline profiles that get auto approved and some that most would think are slam dunk profiles that get denied.
Not anything necessarily wrong with it, but some people hate that Cap One pulls all three. If you haven't had a pull in two years I wouldn't think it would matter to you.

Southwest: Anyone with an international flight on SW ever get the weather advisory free change window and are able to rebook through the website? I'm not getting the free change possibility (though the airport qualifies) and would prefer to do it myself. Online it does say International pax would have to call.

The hyatt I have booked in okinawa is going up to a 5. More reason to hope my trip happens this year.

Only other I noticed is the vendome in paris is going up to an 8. Not sure it's worth that extra though I did like the location.

I know no one really uses hyatt in Orlando but I did notice that some of the hyatt houses went down a cat and the one inside mco is going up to a 5.
What I LOVE Hyatt in Orlando! We are frequent guests at the Grand Cypress which is sadly increasing. We are trying the HR Orlando this weekend to spice it up for a change.

I always transfer any Disney electronic GC to an existing physical card so yes, I do that with gift card deal as well. I buy the $1000 GCs, so I just need to make sure I’ve got a completely empty card to transfer it to, since $1000 is the max that a GC can hold.

@LuckyMamaInDE Just in case it affects your planning, our Hyatt card FNCs posts about 2 months after anniversary and over 30 days after the AF. I think Chase has caught on. I'm not sure if that's true only for more newly opened cards or for everyone.

Having the FNC timing match is a great idea. I wish I'd planned better!

My IHG, Boundless and Ritz cards from Chase have always posted the FN certs right around the anniversary date. Last year, I also got the Hyatt FN cert shortly after the anniversary date too. However, last year was also the year there was a change on how FN certs based on spend could be earned moving forward. So last year, one could spend $15k before their card member anniversary for a FN cert and the another $15k after the card member anniversary but before the end of the year and get another FN cert. I did exactly that as my card member anniversary is mid year. So it is possible the one that posted at that time was based on spend.

My Hyatt FNC posted the 2 months later last year. I was watching for it to land since I still had 2 in my account. The 2 I allowed to expire, thinking I would get points for them.

Let me rephrase, no one really talks about staying at the Hyatts in Orlando except for the airport. Or if it just says grand cypress I don't realize it's a hyatt. I was also thinking of those hh that are going down a cat.
