So, I'm now in limbo about what do to w/ Mexico. LOL. My BF says I'm overthinking it. Last week we were supposed to go, but I had to cancel because of his dad's surgery. I moved to March 6-9 as he's still on vaca. Originally I had flights on Delta (miles). I cancelled those. When I looked last week the miles were low for the 6th and 9th. I don't know why I didn't book. He technically has a line check on his schedule for the 6th. So he told me not to plan anything. So I didn't rebook the Delta flights. Well now it's upon us.....I guess I figured I'd non-rev. But after the mess on Friday the BF is worried about me non-revving. I managed to book a delta flight for the return. The worry is, if we try to non-rev and don't get on, we lose the hotel points/FNC. I'm thinking of checking loads on Sat and then changing the reservation to M/T and booking Sunday when we get on the plane. Which means I'm hoping that there is still a room to book Sunday morning at 7am, if I'm cancelling Sat at 11:59pm, LOL. Should I be okay? Right now the resort is still showing standard rooms available. I did get kinda burned last week waiting to book. But in the end it did work out.

I think others have answered but a room has to be available for you to rebook it. I just earned the $8k FNC, and when I booked Mexico I asked if I could change the 80k night I had booked. They said I could but it would have to still be available. I can't swap mine over.

Resident Spirit guru here, LOL. Carry on, or free personal item? Personal item (e.g., purse, small backpack, etc.): Dimensions must not exceed 18 x 14 x 8 inches (45 x 35 x 20 cm) including handles and wheels.

It really depends on the gate agent you get. I watched the one last week forced 1/2 the flight to show her their personal items fit in the box at the gate. She busted like 5 people and they had to pay $70 at the gate. And FTR, gate agents outside of FLL are contract employees, not Spirit, LOL.

I think Hollywood is close....The Diplomat was AMAZING. And the beach was nice too!

You are making me rethink Cancun! I'd love to do Cabo, but I know it's more flight time. Amazing redemption! I thought mine last week was great, LOL.
i think you are in the wrong part of FL. Sandestin is on the panhandle near Pensacola and Panama City.

I'm considering booking Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort and Spa (Miramar Beach, FL) for April break with DH, DD14, DS13 and DS10. I've never been to that part of Florida.
Any feedback on the hotel? Other things to do in the area? How are the beaches?
Thanks!
We stayed there in August and absolutely loved it! The beach is gorgeous and soft sand, the hotel is nice. We flew into the Destin airport and out the Panama City Beach airport. I am hoping to get there this summer.

I will say it was a bit different than the rest of FL. It felt more southern. DH actually wants to check out the area to possibly retire there. Although I was leaning more towards Tampa and south. We’ll see in 2 years.

Well we have made the hard decision to admit we made the wrong decision with the private school experience and will be letting DS return to public school in the fall for his last 2 years of high school. He is totally miserable and lonely and my heart can’t take it anymore. So no more meeting MSR paying tuition but I’ll save $25k a year.

I'm sorry. It's so hard with schools and children. My kids are all out if the house and I'm still second guessing the decisions I made.

I used DH's support link for my SW performance in Jan. Can I use it again for the premier or no?

Sorry it didn't work out for your DS, but Kudos to you for having his best interests prioritized and being able to recognize that this may not be right for him irrespective of how invested you are. I know parents who refused to see how unhappy their DD was at private school because 'it is a top ranked school, it must be better for her', 'she might not see it now, but she'll thank me someday' etc etc. :sad2:

I went to public K, then private for 1-8. I fought my parents tooth and nail to go to the public high school and about 2 weeks before school started they finally, reluctantly relented. I HATED that private school and still have almost no good memories from going there, but a lot of bad ones that still bother me (and I'm 52). Kudos to you for taking his mental & emotional well being so seriously!

Good for you for listening to him. This stuff is just hard. If I had it to do over again, I would switch DD's middle school for a different one, but of course it's too late now. I think if I had more kids they could have benefitted from what I learned, but then again probably not since each child is different. IMHO if he's happy about this then I think you're doing the right thing.

Speculatively booked Waikoloa Beach Resort for next January. It says I'll owe $141. $120 in resort fees and $21 in taxes. Is that right? I don't think I paid taxes on any other of my points bookings. Is Hawaii just different?

Have a Delta question.

I had Delta Gold, downgraded to the regular Blue No Fee Card a few years ago. Got an offer to upgrade to Gold again, 40k miles for like $2000 spend, no fee for first year and did that. I booked a flight with Miles for June travel. Delta changed me 1st leg of return trip that made it impossible to make connecting flight. I just called (after an hour+ on chat last night to no avail) to move our 2nd leg to a later time that worked. ANYWAY, in reviewing my itinerary just now, it's showing me as Silver Medallion.....but I'm not. I haven't traveled on Delta since pre-covid and barely used either Amex (outside of the MSR). My husband's fare was booked with cash + Venture X travel credit (he's not showing Silver).

I'm confused. I did notice that the phone rep said something about being eligible to upgrade to first class, but I didn't even think about it. Is this some weird 1 time status?

Anyone have this happen?
Lee I called to try to upgrade my ticket next week to hawaii no luck but i did find out that they are doing 6 month promos for people who previous had status to silver. Sorry Im relentless when i dont know something going on. But it seems to be targeted to previous status holders from what i can see on reddit/flyer talk.

I've been so busy here with the garden and Master Gardener work that I haven't done the application I talked about last month. Please refresh my memory--I do not currently work outside the home for income. What do I choose on the application for employment status? Thanks :)

Congrats on the booking. Yes, Hawaii is different. They have a state transient tax. They now also have a 3 % county transient accommodations tax.

You can look for an "Other" option. Feels better than unemployed since you do have access to employment income, it's just P2's.

I got a new card last week and DH filled out the form for me and put "retired" which is kind of funny, but I did work at some point so I guess it's valid.

Thanks to both of you! I mean, technically I have retired from what I used to do lol

I'm not sure why I didn't think of this before. I'm using some of my VGC to pay my gas/electrical that only takes MC/Visa. The card I was using had a balance of $136, but my electric bill was only $83. Suddenly it clicked to use pay the amount left on the card and "prepay" down some of next month's bill, LOL. I mean I guess since I just started to think about using VGC instead of a card when I'm not doing a spend, I wouldn't have thought of this before, LOL.

I will say, paying bills does make my head spin, so I guess I can also blame that, LOL.

There is a Miramar near Hollywood/Ft Lauderdale. Just not Miramar Beach
That's exactly what I was thinking. Funny that Miramar Beach is no where near Miramar. WTH Florida, LOL

We live in Santa Rosa Beach(30A) and the crowds, tourists and building has gone crazy! I have previously lived in Celebration, but these crowds are different. Much more short term renters. The developers are buying cute beach cottages and tearing them down building mini hotels that sleep 20-30. It took us 5 years to find an area/lot to build our house and we are now selling. But, the beaches cant be beat! Better than Castaway, we believe!
