I was in a work meeting today (I work for a local government) about our municipality considering beginning to charge/pass on credit card fees when citizens pay for various municipal services (utilities, zoning/planning permits, etc) online using a credit card.

The specific comment made was "we shouldn't be paying for people to get points on their credit cards."

I wonder if this is just one person catching wind of things, or a growing trend?

I think it's unusual that they don't already charge a fee. Sounds like your local government is waking up.

I also work for local municipality and just last year we stopped passing on the fees, be aware that more people started paying with credit/debit cards so we under budgeted credit cards fees.

I had to add 50+ offers to get under 100. I hate the way Amex does offers.
Yes, same here! I had just finished adding all the offers to clear up and make it easier to glance through what was new. Signed on looking for best Buy after your post and there were 92 new offers. I guess the 100 were blocking stuff up till I cleaned it out.

Anyway, saw the Best Buy on my card and on DD's AU card and went to Best Buy and purchased $500 in DGC's for our trip. Friend had given me cash to buy her ticket and add it to MDE. She's been in my MDE since we have taken a couple of previous trips together. I gave her back the $50, surprising her, as I hadn't mentioned any deals to her, but since I didn't get it till you posted, I didn't actually know to tell her ahead of time. Nice Surprise for her! (I kept the Marriott points, lol!)

I have an additional $810 in Chase offers to pick up this weekend.

The one I missed was the Staples biz offer. I've always gotten that one so I'm assuming it got snapped up before I saw it and probably disappeared from my list. I was in Staples buying Mastercard gift cards and got a couple of coupons on my receipts that made up for it - $10 off $20 and $10 off $30. Plus 25 free holiday cards.

My local electric company doesn't charge while the ultility company and gas do. It's just a matter of time before the electric company does too. I'll just consider myself lucky to have not paid a fee for as long as I have.
My electric company charges $1.75. My bill this month is $154. Using a 2% card I get $3.08 cash back. I'm still ahead. If I need it for an SUB I'll pay ahead ($600) and it's still $1.75. Gas is free and water is free now.

I wouldn't give up on getting the DVC nights. We decided to go the first week of January and I was finally able to get all 5 nights in the same room type at Kidani. I was able to get 3 nights and then waitlisted the other two nights one at a time. I tend to find more availability on the weekends. Good luck!

In past years I would have strongly agreed with this.

This year looking at January and February, it's pretty rough. There's pretty much nothing there and it stays that way. I've been watching for the past few months and I'm grateful I locked in a week at BWV plus a night at Riviera much earlier.

I would still keep looking because something might pop up especially around the 31 day windows.

Yesterday morning I went to start a 'walk' to November for Boardwalk Villas for Nov 2023. I was already blocked out. So I banked my Beach Club points and booked Beach Club Villas. I know I can get the BWV with patience as time rolls on because the walkers will drop nights, but it's still irritating as an owner at the resort that I can't just book straight up. It's also not new, as I've had to do day by day now for about 4 years.

Mine stopped during the pandemic so all water and personal property tax is paid by credit card. Once they put the fee back it’s back to bill pay. My county is super fiscally responsible so I’m shocked the fee hasn’t returned yet.

I can do gas, electric and garbage w/ no fees. Water and property taxes go through the township, so I get an added fee. I started to pay my dad's lot rent w/ my card at this point too. And they charge a fee, but I'm getting fully reimbursed so why not, LOL.

I do want to ask about paypal bill pay. I have a business account for paypal. I've had it since paypal started. I don't see bill pay as an option. I know in the past I tried to open a personal paypal and they wouldn't let me because my bank accounts are tied to the business account. I guess it's time to look back into this!

Well... they insist on still calling themselves a "town" when we have 275,000 residents!

I think my electric and gas do charge a fee...in fact I think that's why I avoided using those unless I was trying to meet an MSR. (These days I spend so much I don't need to pay utilities to meet an MSR...)

Interesting that you went the other direction!

Yes the pandemic years definitely increased the CC fees my employer was seeing!

PSA: I've seen some posts on reddit and DoC that Amex is sometimes/rarely excluding tax payments from valid spending for MSR. It seems this occurs when a bonus doesn't automatically post and there has to be manual review. The comments I've read on reddit seem to indicate it is a bad idea to make a tax payment with the temporary card number that some people receive just after applying, as there seems to be some correlation with this payment then not counting towards MSR, thus the required manual review. I've not seen a ton of reports, but enough that I thought it warranted a warning to plan ahead and think carefully about using that temp number for tax purposes.

Unfortunately, when a bonus doesn't post, they'll ask you to wait whatever the T&C say, something like "allow 8 weeks for points to post" before they'll start an investigation. Investigations take 8-12 weeks. So if you find yourself in a position where they are manually reviewing and they determine taxes don't count, you'll have run out of time to finish the spend if your MSR is only 3 months.

Florida (at least orange county) has a 4% discount if you pay property taxes early, as long as you value the 2% fee you are still ahead of 2% in my mind. They dropped Electric fees (1.50) bills over 150 are 100% worth it (but they dropped it) water doesn't charge it 50$ or more so a few times I may have over paid them for the points 😂 what can I say im a point junky at heart?

There's a save 10% on your wireless bill up to $30 on my Hilton Surpass.
I had a “Spend $115 or more, get $15 back, up to 2 times” on your wireless bill on my Hilton card (free one). DH had the “get 10% back, up to $30” on his. Funny, our bill is around $160 so the credit we’ll get back is *almost* the same from each offer 😂 only difference I see is the offer I got can be used twice. I guess I’ll use his this month, and mine next month. Both expire 12/31. Off to change autopay card now… that’s gonna be annoying lol.

I just make a one time payment, doesn't mess up the autopay.

Does anyone know which Capital One cards are eligible for Taylor Swift presale? I have a Quicksilver and a 14-year-old who desperately wants tickets, so much so I'm willing to go to 5/24 and get a card that works if I need to, but would be happier if the QuickSilver does the trick. From Taylor Swift's site:
  • You must use an eligible Capital One Visa or Mastercard credit or debit card to complete your purchase. Excludes Capital One issued private label cards.
Thoughts?

Thanks for the info!

I don't have any Capital One cards. Do you think if I applied today that I could get it in time?

P2 and I have Cap1 savings accounts. I had read the debit card would work, but would need to pay for tickets with Cap1 card and I don't want to debit that. I prequalified for 3 cards with no bonus, P2 prequalified for a few with bonus. While I wasn't ready for P2 to get another personal card, a new Savor One is on the way. I was able to access the virtual card within the existing savings acct. I can't believe I app'd for a card just for concert tickets.

I have been refreshing constantly. I got us nights 1, 3 & 4 at 3 different places (Kidani, OKW, Jambo). Then Saratoga popped up for 2 consecutive nights so I dropped Kidani. I'd love to be at Boardwalk, but at this point I'll take anything, bonus if all in one place. So, in a few days I've gone from no availability to 2 nights Saratoga, 1 OKW and 1 Jambo. For this short of a trip I really want to only switch once so I'll keep watching for those last nights somewhere and cancel.

agree 100%! I have owned BWV for 20 years. I have never had such a hard time getting a room at 11 months. I was going to walk a standard studio for the end of September (which is stupid that I should even have to do that) but I could not. Often times the 11 month date was not even available at booking time, period. I had to stalk and pick up my single days as they finally got dropped. What a pain it was.

Hmm, I'll have to see if that works. We are now on Tmobile, and they require the autopay for a $15 discount per month. I know with Verizon it was the same, and I was able to make one time payments all the time with no issue. Anyone know if Tmobile is the same thing?
