Marathon Weekend 2024

For both of my marathons, I have had to bail out of one long run during training (ironically it was the same 16-mile run for both plans) because my body was just completely spent and I felt like I had the flu.
i know I’ll have a good race day when I bomb at least one of my key long runs or long rides. Happens every single time leading up to an A race.

Dreaming about medals again...
Maybe I'm perseverating too much on the Disney100 theming, they may not do anything having to do with that at all, but I'd love if the artwork for each medal was in the style of the first appearance of that character. Like Pluto from the 1930's or whenever he first appeared, for the 5k, Mickey and Minnie from Steamboat Willie, for the marathon, etc. Not sure who will be on the 10k, it seems to change a lot. Anyway that's my Friday afternoon thought for this week :)

I like this idea. The 10k could easily be Oswald again if they bring back the kids races and use chip and dale for that.

Were kids races mentioned for w&d? Or maybe they’re bringing them back in 2024 since we know they’re having them at DL.

Good Evening runDisney All-Stars! I have to be up super early to drive my family to my youngest daughter’s dance competition in the morning and with the time change - well I know it will be at best, semi-managed chaos trying to get out of the house on time. So, this week’s SAFD is going to be SEAFD! :-) AKA - Saturday Evenings Are For Disney!

This weeks question comes from @Herding_Cats. Which ride/attraction is your go to if you need a quick nap, etc.

My Answer: I am almost ashamed to admit to this…. Let me say first I love The Muppets. As a kid I once told my family that I wanted to be Animal when I grew up! On Saturday evenings The Muppet Show was a staple in my house. But for some reason when I go to the Muppet 3D Show in HS I fall asleep every time! No matter how awake I am, after just a few minutes it is snoozeville for me. Please don’t tell Kermit!

SAFD: As previously relayed, I prefer to use the buses between parks and resort for my recharge naps. If the need were to overcome me while in a park, though, I would choose the following locales:

MK: Carousel of Progress
EP: Spaceship Earth
HS: Muppets
AK: Finding Nemo, The Musical

I was all about a park nap back when I'd come for Marathon Weekend and do the parks all day with no break. Now I bring my kkds and we usually head back to the resort at some point to swim and relax. But here are my favorites.

MK - Carousel of Progress
Epcot - Any country's show
HS - Muppets
AK - Not sure I ever napped here!

As I detailed last week, it’s MuppetVision 3D for me. And it’s not so much that it’s a great place for a nap than it’s a place I can’t avoid taking one. Something about the 3D glasses and dark theater does it to me. I’ve had issues staying awake at 3D movies (back when those were much more common) so I think there’s something my eyes don’t like about the technology. I always have a certain degree of fatigue, from burning the candle at both ends at Disney, so I think my eyes just can’t be asked when we get to MuppetVision.

SEAFD: I don’t nap in the parks - heading back to the resort for some downtime is my preference going back to when our kids were young. However, on very hot/ crowded days it’s nice to get into some extended AC. so for us it would be:

MK: CoP
Epcot: American Adventure
HS: Tower of Terror 😂 ok, maybe Muppets
AK: It’s tough to be a bug

SAFD: Apparently, I am in a very small minority of people who just don't nap in public--not something that I would do or are physically capable of doing. Also, our park style has always been "rope drop/leave by lunch", so it's just not an issue.

Now if we're talking "let's get out of the heat", I'm all for Mickey's Philharmagic, CoP, TTA, any indoor exhibit at Epcot, animal trails at AK. But these are things I'd do anyway, not just because they're cooler/AC'ed.

SAFD: I can't believe not every single person is saying Hall of Presidents. It's a no-brainer. Long, dark show, relatively quiet and sedate (compared to Muppets? Forgeddaboudit!) Top-notch air conditioning. Ellen's Energy Adventure was the only thing that could top it. Honestly though I'm with @jmasgat it is difficult for me to really let loose and nap in public. But a few moments of quiet with your eyes closed in the A/C can do wonders.

SAFD:
MK: Carousel of Progress
EP: Spaceship Earth
HS: Muppets
Can't argue with any of those. Not including AK because we don't ever seem to be there long enough for a nap to hapen. I don't go into any attraction with the intention of napping and it's not like its a hard core nap. But I know on any of these attractions (and HoP and Philharmagic as well), when the lights go down and I am settled in, it's likely only a few minutes before I feel the tell tale head nod occur and eventually just close my eyes and reacharge for a couple minutes.

SAFD:
They're my favorite rides, but they're also great spots to pass out for a few minutes, especially late at night - Haunted Mansion and Spaceship Earth. I've also napped in the Tiki room, which wasn't easy but it was a desperate situation. Things like HoP and CoP aren't on my list just because we hardly ever visit shows.

SAFD: honestly the whole concept of purposely taking a nap at an attraction is foreign to me - I need a comfortable bed or sofa, just the right pillow, a fuzzy blanket, and something soothing on TV to nap. Hard stop. I can sort of doze on a quiet strip of beach if the temperature is just right under an umbrella, but that’s as close to public napping as I’ve ever gotten.

So I’ll answer this a bit differently and say I do have some go-tos for when I just need a break from overstimulation:
SE
LWTL
HOP
MK train
MK riverboat
AK train
Any boat transportation
Skyliner
