Disneyland Half Marathon 2024

Hey guys.

I must apologize for my absence the last week and a half. I said a couple weeks ago I was a bit under the weather. It blew up pretty bad, and I ended up in the hospital. I was poking around a little while I was getting medical attention, but I couldn't do anything too sustained.

I'm doing better, now. I'm not 100%, but I was released earlier today. So I hope I'm good, I just have to keep a few things monitored.
Yikes! I hope your recovery goes well

@nekonekoneko Only thing that's important is that you're doing better and you contine to focus on what you need to recover. Disboards and running will always be aroud when you're up for it. :)

Hi y’all! I wanted to pose a WAFDL since my costume top arrived last week. Have y’all started thinking about costumes? I’m going dragon Maleficent and not because of Murphy 🤪. I have proof that my custom skirt was ordered in March :rotfl2:

I have my Half marathon outfit already bought a super cute Dumbo outfit for the Dumbo Dare Challenge. I am wearing it this weekend for my local Colfax Half Marathon where we run through the Denver Zoo. 20230324_151339.jpg

My 2nd outfit for the 10k I am still thinking about... but at least I have one done.

This and several other costumes that I saw online have me thinking - what are everyone's plans for their costumes if it's cold? I'm asking because I found a sleeveless costume that I really like - and if I was doing a race in Florida, I'd bet on warm enough weather to wear it - but I'm thinking that sleeveless in California in January isn't as safe of a bet.

Thoughts?

Ohh easy I just wear my running leggings and then under armor shirt under the outfit.

I have a tank top and a skirt for my outfit, and I can easily layer if I need to. If have short sleeve layers and long sleeve layers. Living in CO I've learned that layers are key.

I guess I'm worried that putting layers underneath makes them complicated to remove if/when I get warm later.

Yes, I'm overthinking this - and yes, this why I don't usually go full out with running costumes! I'm wondering if arm sleeves might be an answer. Have people used those as an alternative?

That is true under layers are not easily removed. So I decide on my under layers based on the warmer temps and just run a little cold in the beginning. But as a Colorado person I am okay in the cold... it is the heat that gets me.

You could wear layers on top but I do not want to ruin my outfit.

I have cut the toe end off of old tube socks to wear as arm sleeves, so I don't mind just ditching them once I warm up later in the race. I am usually short sleeves/tank top when racing in anything over 50F though.

I'm definitely a cold weather runner as well - particularly after training outside in November and December. For example, the weather at this year's Marathon Weekend 10K and half were perfect for me. I can see running short sleeves in the 50's, but it usually needs to be getting into the 60's before I go with something sleeveless.

This is my struggle. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a costume to have it messed up by the weather. And if it rains, all bets are off!

I suppose the upside is that I'm looking at a Sleeping Beauty outfit so arm sleeves would fit the theme quite nicely.

I learned my lesson after this week's MW, when the half was below 50 until the sun rose. Being from MN I got a bit overconfident and thought I'd be fine in short sleeves and shorts, of course the FL humidity is a different kind of cold and I forgot how long it takes the sun to rise when you start at 5AM. I also forgot that I don't run the WDW races as fast as I usually race and thus I don't get as warm as I usually do. I about froze my arms/hands off (legs/torso/ears were fine, funny enough).

I actually started with hand warmers which is the funny part, and tossed them after a few miles because my hands were plenty warm. Turn out they were warm BECAUSE fo the hand warmers, and tossing them was a really dumb decision :rotfl:

DL weather can be quite cold in January, I've been to LA that time of year before and was in jeans and sweaters and vests. But at least no FL humidity to cause that bone chilling feeling. Since I'm not coming home between Dopey and Dumbo, I am going to need to pack a lot of extra race gear to pivot if weather changes. Not looking forward to probably having two check bags and a carry on, since I have to haul all my work gear to work remotely :crazy2: So much throwaway gear to get! I keep thrifting throwaway clothes and end up liking them and keeping them, oops!

Your trip report for this race had me laughing so much. I felt so bad for you but you told it so funnily. 🤣

I signed up for yoga so I’m going to have to bring checked luggage so I can get the yoga mat home. That’ll allow me to bring extra layers in case I need them. Throw in some ponchos since it was rainy this year… I may not need them for the rain but they provide a layer between me and the ground in the corrals.
