I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

With all this talk of luggage choices and carry-ons, I wonder if you ran into anything special with regard to flying Aer Lingus? (I remember reading somewhere they have the most strict carry-on/personal bag limits with regard to size and weight.)

Also, did you post a trip report for Ireland? l'd love to read it :)

We packed only carry-ons for this trip, plus 1 personal item (day packs). We actually checked the rolling carryons in BOS to DUB because we felt like it and were going to be at the BOS airport for a few hours (we padded our time a fair amount since we were using public transportation from downtown BOS to Logan) -- and we had Biz Class seats so they were obviously no extra charge.

We did NOT check them on return from SNN-BOS (economy) because we didn't have a linked itinerary for our Jet Blue flight from BOS to RDU (we booked Aer Lingus on points first, then bought JB seats much later) and we didn't want to have to go get them from baggage claim before our flight from BOS to RDU that same evening. I used the "bag checker" thing at the AL desk (it was fine) and no one batted an eye about the bags when we boarded. I will say that my backpack was so stuffed that it didn't fit under the seat in front of me. We originally thought we'd buy a duffel to carry "stuff" back from Ireland, (and then check a bag) but we didn't really buy that much and was able to fit everything in our existing bags. My DH ended up cramming my backpack in an overhead after everyone had boarded -- I felt bad because we shouldn't have done that, but we didn't inconvenience anyone else. Otherwise I would have tried to move some items from my backpack to my DHs or my roller bag.

I haven't done a real "trip report" yet, but here's a points breakdown post:

We LOVED our trip!

Just came across something interesting that I didn’t know was a thing. I was looking at AirFrance flights to Brussels, just some research and one of the arrival airport codes is ZYR, I didn’t know which city that was so I looked at the flight details and turns out it is a train station. The award ticket is a flight from Dallas to Paris and then a train from CDG to Brussels. Just thought I would share.

Hi credit card peeps, I’ve got a situation I’m pretty sure I know the answer to, but if anyone knows a way around it, it’s you guys!

My daughter is leaving daycare for all day Kindergarten. Until now, we have always put monthly daycare cost on a card to help meet MSR or for 1.5x through CFU.

The new place only takes payment via ACH or check, and it is a hefty tuition cost each month. Is there any strategy to still earn points gia direct payment? The only think I can think of is a money order purchased with a credit card, but I’m not sure this fancy-a** place will take a money order. I’ve gotten spoiled and can’t bear the thought of so much money each month not counting towards something!

I haven't had a denial yet but I haven't been getting instant approval anymore either so I always worry. Based on the call, what was their concern? Is your total Chase CL and velocity okay or are you pushing it?
I don't think it was velocity with Chase because I hadn't gotten a Chase card since last year.
They asked about a high loan balance (it's our solar panels, which are interest free for a year) so maybe that was it. Also asked if I would be okay with moving CL around, and I said yes (I was pushing it a little, have about 55% of household income in Chase CL). So that might have been another factor.

BUT, good news! I guess my answers to their questions were satisfactory because I got an email approval today! 🎉

I wondered if something was up cuz I kept trying to login earlier and I couldn’t even get into my account.
Yeah, an agent told me there's a system wide outage and not even they can make reservations. I could can the hotel and reserve with them but they can't book with points 🤷‍♂️

You can't buy a money order with a credit card. You buy a VGC with a credit card and then use that to buy a money order. If the school won't take a money order deposit it into your bank account and pay with an ACH or check.

Have any of you guys traveled internationally with a passport in a maiden name, after you were married and had a name change? I figure if anyone has done it, someone here has experience! I've read a lot online about it, and it says to just make sure to book the airline tickets in your maiden name also so it matches the passport. I mean, is there anyway TSA or Customs flinches at this? Can they see in the system that the person's legal name is different now? This is for a family member that would like to avoid getting a new passport until it's up for renewal in 3 years.

I have the exact opposite situation. While I "changed" my name when I got married in 1996, I only ever changed it with social security and with my payroll. We obtained our mortgage and file taxes with my married name.

EVERYTHING else stayed in my maiden name, DL, passport, bank accounts, credit cards etc...

This is because I kept my maiden name professionally and needed to notarize business legal papers all the time under my maiden name. I flew domestically and internationally under my maiden name for about 25 years.

I finally changed my passport name recently to my married name for my 25th wedding anniversary when it was time to renew it. :) I had to change my name with all my frequent flyer programs. I applied for GE under my married name after the passport name change and was approved. They do ask what other names you have ever been know as on the application.

FYI, my DL is STILL in my maiden name and I will change it to my married name when it is time to renew it. This may become a PITA because I still use my maiden name at work, but I will cross that bridge when I have to.

Actually, all my credit cards are still in my maiden name!

I carry my passport card in my wallet as proof of my married name, just in case, since my DL is different.

I book ALL my travel under my married name now and use my passport or passport card as ID, and NOT my DL.

ALL this to say - I think she will be fine as long as her name matches on her passport, tickets, and any frequent flyer programs.

What is a mattress run?

'Staying' at a hotel when you don't really need to just for the purpose of elite nights, points or a promotion. Sometimes you don't even stay at the hotel - just make the reservation, show up to check-in and then leave. And with the advent of online check-in and digital keys, even the show up to check in part is optional for some.

Ok please bear with me here...... I'm currently weighing 2 cc options in my mind b/c I have a spend coming up and I want to max it out- I already have a ton of chase family cc....I could go for another ink deal but the spend isn't quite that big (is it 8k MSR for 100k UR?) Altho I could MS a bit to hit that it would be stretch for me.
1) So I saw on my Amex card page an offer for Green-6ok MR,MSR 3k,$95 AF (seems public offer has $150 af?) which seems like a decent deal....OR..... 2) try for the Wyndham Biz 75k offer to try those matches that @orangecuse was explaining awhile back... that also has a $95 AF....3) just do the AA 70k cc deal with the $95 AF.
I realize these are kind of all over the place, and I just finished MSR on the IHG biz ,b/c free hotel stays are my thing right now. However,I'm wondering if I can do the AA AND one of my other choices on the same day?(this would be handy when my usual SWA flights aren't working out)
Just looking for opinions....what do you think, wwyd?

Depending on your 5/24 concerns I would do all 3. Might require some recon on the Barclay apps so I would apply for the one I really wanted first, but otherwise if these cards meet your needs they are all excellent offers. Any combination of the 3, or all 3 would work.

I'm also looking at which card to get next. I'm thinking next year, we might do a road trip through the New England states. If we did that, we would need a lot of hotel rooms - just wondering if there's any particular chain that work good up there? Currently we both have the Hyatt personal card and I have the IHG personal card. Otherwise, we have no other hotel cards.

I could use more AA miles. Where are you seeing the 70k offer?

I’m close to booking a Hilton in Tokyo. Can you use points and a free night certificate? I’m new to Hilton but have 250k points plus one free night certificate.

Also just met my msr for my cic so I need to figure out plane tickets.

You can, but they would be separate reservations. You'll need to call in to use the free night certificate. Not sure how long you want to stay, but you can get 5th night free on points (can't be combined with the FNC).

Which Hilton are you looking at? The Conrad would be a good deal with the FNC as points cost is high. The Hilton Tokyo Bay less so since the standard room doesn't cost as much in points.

Has anyone booked a WDW room with the Citi Travel portal (runs on booking dot com)? I booked one night in Nov with Citi because it's not eligible for any of the Disney discounts. The Citi cash price is less and I'm getting 10x points for the booking. I can't link my reservation to MDE. I called Citi Travel, and they said I had to call Disney for them to look up the reservation and get the number. I tried that. The cast member attempted to look up the reservation and couldn't find it. He told me to call Citi and get them to agree to do a conference call with Disney wholesale. Does that sound right?

I am so flipping happy to announce that my Cap1 SavorOne card gave me 3% cash back when paying for WDW tickets and Genie+. They also give 3% CB for dining, so we paid using discounted Disney gift cards and the SavorOne. I was scared that we wouldn't get the extra cash back for entertainment since Disney is so big and their merchant codes would be different, but NO - it coded as entertainment. So flipping happy!
