The Gulf State Park DISMeet 2017 Thread (aka "The Sequel")

Thanks Mike. Yeti is doing better today. He can walk on his own and get up. Laying down is a struggle. Sorry for TMI here but he has diarrhea. Thankfully not the Squirts like he is sick but when he is going it's not good. I am assuming it is from the stress of the fall and the pain. I do have a call into the vet to discuss with her. I am hoping a car ride and a trip to Grammy and Grampy's today will perk him up.

Kris, um, yeah that's TMI. :sad2:

You know it's getting close to time in the event when you get inside the 60 day forecast in Accuweather. When I pull up Gulf Shores for the last two weeks of May, it looks really nice. I can bank on this, can't I? Michael? Jim? Nic? Bert? Joe? Randy? Can't I? Hello? ... tap tap tap ... Is this thing on?

<Bueller?>

I am not liking the end of the trip weather, I may need to do more swimming and less running. Yes my plan is more open water swimming, I still suck at it.

Yeti is not great but doing better. Picked up some medicine for his stomach today. We can say it was a clean day. On Wednesday will have to drive out to get allergy meds for him. He is chewing his paws horribly. The back ones are raw. I think he is having a problem with the pollen. I stayed home with him today. Bert will spend half the day at home tomorrow and I should be able to spend the rest of the week at home. Hoping by then he is feeling better.

60 days you say!?

I just thought about it, but I'll have a great location to view the sunrise every morning from my site. Man, that vacation isn't getting here soon enough.

Yes it is getting here quickly and unfortunately for me the Sheriff is dragging his feet on hiring. Until I actually start work I have no clue what will be happening as far as when I will be on shift. I'm feeling that I need to just pull the trigger now and just cancel my reservation so one of our other Disfriends can make the trip. I know people need time to prepare. I obviously would still visit and participate in some activities. I'm wondering now if there is a way I can coordinate and let them have some or all my dates. I don't just want to cancel and my site go back into inventory.

Of course it's true. You saw it on the interwebs.

It does seem like a Chamber of Commerce forecast though. Sunny, near average temps and no rain.

I don't just want to cancel and my site go back into inventory.
I wonder if you can call and just have the name changed on the reservation? Seems like a win/win if you could.

Sure was nice seeing you today Joe at fire house subs.so sorry I called you the wrong name! I'm errorless with names. Can hardly remember my own most days

It is going to be a long couple of weeks in atlanta. I am sure we made national news with the fire and 85 collapsing. Thankfully no injuries. I am lucky we very rarely take 85 north, except to go to Costco, now we will use the one in Cobb county. It will probably affect the surface streets we use as we are about 2 miles from where it happened.

Got a big work transition weekend. We are bringing up 50 new locations on our system. If all goes well and I am nit working we are hoping to go out to the RV and exercise her. Take her for a drive, run the generator, run the lube pump on the rav. If we have time clean the front window and tires. If work gets in the way then we go the following weekend.

Yeti update. We have LOTS of drugs for dogs in the house. He is still chewing his feet but hoping tomorrow is better since he has had allergy meds for two days now. His pooper, while not on schedule, is back to normal. His back/hips/legs we added an extra dose of pain meds. He did have some spunk but he is still in pain. He is walking by himself, but sometimes falls.

Hey nick you do exist!

Kris,

Saw the fire and collapse. Pretty spectacular. I'm sure that is going to cause a traffic mess for quite a while.

Glad to hear Yeti is doing better. And I can relate on the work things. Last week was fairly slow with a lot of docs out for Spring break. Making up for lost revenue this week.

Hey nick you do exist!
I thought the same thing. Good to hear from you, Nick. And I can't wait to see everyone in less than 2 months.

A quick note to Joe (and the others). My brother's passport came in the mail this week, so we should all be able to join you at the NAS this year. Looking forward to actually seeing the Blue Angels this time.

I secretly got the site just around the corner from Ed so we can come over in the dark of night and work the puzzle. :D

j

Oh so you want to sneak over before sunrise and work on the puzzle?

Tiggerdad/Michael may find it a challenge to train the squirrels on Live Oak Road this year. Them over there are pretty sophisticated (like my grammar) and not like the simpletons he charmed on Sumac Road last year.

I just hope Mallory and Yeti remember me from this January at the Fort.

PS - I lived in Atlanta up I-85 in Gwinnett County in the 90s and drove down inside the Perimeter daily on 85 to work at my office although I got off before this fire location. Know the area well though.

I did 3 years there but got let out early for good behavior. I said goodbye to Andy, Red, Brooks, The Warden, and the rest of the guys at Shawshank (the Atlanta Pen) and never looked back.

Here is a March 2017 update on the improvements being made with the BP settlement money at Gulf State Park.

http://mygulfstatepark.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/GSP-Project-Update_Mar-2017-Low-Res.pdf

Also I read the lodge/conference center/hotel that was destroyed over 10 years ago near the fishing pier along the beach will be ready around May 2018.

And oh, Kris, they still say WIFI is coming to the whole park at some point in the future.

Ed

PS - everyone bring your bikes if you can.

I have been on a couple of the new trails and they are great. If we have anyone in our group besides Nick and Randy (Sure they already know) that may be interested Red Snapper season opens Memorial weekend also. Maybe if Nik get his new boat by then he can take us all fishing.

Well with good luck we made it out to the rig. As soon as we arrived I was promptly called by work. Took care of most of it on the phone. Got the rig exercised and window cleaned. We managed to lose a hub cap during the joy ride. After got home and took a bunch of work calls. Been a bumpy weekend got most everything done. We will go back out and do some actual maintenance but really wanted run her since it has been two months.

Dogs are hanging in there. Mallory is pretty good and yeti is holding his own.

No worries Ed, Mallory will absolutely remember you and yeti will just be happy to stand.

Yeah, I can see it now. With our luck, it would go something like this:

"Hey, Tiggerdad, bait us up some fish will ya?"
jaws.gif

"Right, now just get him up in the net"
jaws2.gif

"Tiggerdad, count his teeth to make sure he is legal size"

Then, later on, me crawling up on shore at the public beach "Nope, not quite big enough"

Speaking of the Blue Angels practice here are the days and times when we will be there. For those that haven't heard they are doing another pass of the Magic Kingdom this Thursday 4/6/17 between 930 & 10. Wish I was there.
