Well, though I have resisted these many years, I have finally joined the DIS boards. Honestly I am just not very good at navigating the "Forum" format.
I love Pete like a cousin from a couple of states away that doesn't visit often enough. Having said that I feel compelled to share my more positive experience with 'Ohana.
When I was a child and my family would travel to Disney World I fell in love with the Polynesian. We didn't stay there. We would go to poly instead of the Magic Kingdom. We swam in the Volcano Pool and the beach and we would eat at Papeete Bay Verandah, now 'Ohana. It was the coolest place to eat. Better than anything in the Kingdom. Better than anywhere else in life.
As an adult my wife told me she wanted to take our daughter to Disney World. She too grew up swimming at Poly but never staying there. It was the only choice for us, stay at the Poly. On our first trip Disney upgraded us to club level, dead center of the Hawaii Longhouse on the 2nd floor with a balcony. (Best room at Disney World)
We have now eaten at 'Ohana several times. Our first trip we had a table of 9. Our favorite dinner was on a date night when we watched the fireworks during our 2 1/2 hour dinner. We have always received excellent service and never been rushed. The salad, the noodles and the wings. I would rank these items as high on my list of favs.
I love Poly. Sure, the offerings at other club level lounges are better, but not as fun. Housekeeping will eventually get around to sort of tidying up your room.
My mom is in the final chapter of her life and has no memories of Disney World or the Polynesian. Poly? She cleans up nicely but is showing her age, in the creases, and around the edges, just like mom. Take your mom to 'Ohana while you can, That's my advice.
