Yes, you’re eyes do NOT deceive you….I’m going back to visit one of my favorite places on earth!! Before I get to explaining how this trip came to be, I should introduce the crew that will be mentioned over the course of this TR.

The MAIN players:

ME: Donna -- CODE NAME: Dug
I’m a wedding specialist for an online stationery company. I basically deal with crazy brides for a living. I love my job, which combines a bit of personality with a lot of perseverance. My obsession with DISNEY started in 1996, when I took a 8+ night to WDW and fell in love. I stayed at the WL, and man I was HOOKED!! After that, my (then) husband and I chucked it ALL and moved sight-unseen to Orlando, where I promptly got a job…you know my boss, right…the Rodent in the RED PANTS? I loved my tenure at WDW….it afforded me a lot of luxuries, namely a GREAT CM discount so that my parents could buy into DVC. Fast-forward to now, where I now live back in the Mid-Atlantic, got remarried and dream of my next glorious trip back to the land of Walt’s Dreams. This will be my FIRST trip, post Gastric-Bypass surgery, which I had in March of 2010. I am 4 month post surgery, and have lost over 80 pounds, so I hoping for TRIPLE-DIGIT loss by the time the trip rolls around---wish me luck!!

DH: J, -- CODE NAME: The Dark Lord (or DL for short)
J’s the (brace yourselves), DISNEY-hater of the group. Gee, hate is such a strong word….he’s more of the Disney-downer….that sound a bit more PC. He’s a shift supervisor at a Gamma-Sterilization facility….he works long and hard and tolerates my talk of Disney. He usually gives me the “look” when I’ve pushed my limit with him. This isn’t the first time he’s been to WDW….if you count the 26 hours total he spent on property, back in 2001, then he’s BEEN before. He was supposed to be on our 2007 trip, but craziness with work schedules and financial budgets made it easier for him to just back out, which I’m sure was just the hardest decision to make. His agreement to this trip came as a HUGE surprise, but I was not about to question said decision…..I know my place, and come next year, it’s at WDW! All I had to do was promise a day-trip to NASA, and he was set!!

Featured Players:

My Mom--CODE NAME: Gimpy
Momma’s been through a lot, on the health front. She suffers from lots of arthritic issues, so her and my dad are ECV pros---it’s like their Amex card…..they never do DISNEY without one! She loves Disney, but on her own terms….no rushing, no fighting…we’re at Disney, for gosh sakes!

My Dad –CODE NAME: Grumpy
Yes, my dad is a dwarf…..not really, but ever since his FIRST EVER trip to the world, he’s been Grumpy—it’s just HIM (to a tee!). He’s my DISNEY-obsessed Protégé….he’s gives the credit that EVERYTHING he knows about Disney, he learned from ME (awe shucks, Dad)---and believe me, he talks DISNEY to almost anyone who will listen (which makes my mom just ROLL the eyes). He can be fool of surprises, like when, on my parent’s FIRST visit to WDW, they went to a DVC presentation, and a hour later he was an owner (“Excuse me, who are you and WHAT have you done with my Dad?”)…not that I’m complaining,. that one decision allows for decades of fun for our entire family!! This trip, was another surprise, courtesy of dear, old DAD!!

My Sis—CODE NAME: WaWa
my sis is a store manager at, can you guess....WAWA!! This will be my sister’s SECOND trip to WDW….the first was back in 2000, when the entire family came and stayed for a week at BWV….my oldest nephew’s first trip. We made the mistake of all STAYING together and doing EVERYTHING with each other……BIG MISTAKE. By the end of the trip, we had argued, fought and were ready to kill each other. Needless to say, this trip came with some conditions….namely SPACE and time on our own.

My BIL—CODE NAME: Chiller
My BIL is so relaxed, it’s scary. He’s the YING to my sister’s YANG……she’s the workaholic and he’s Mr. Mom, when he's not working at his regular job!! My DH and BIL are like two peas in a pod, so I can’t wait to see what kind of trouble they’ll get into while in Florida. I should bring extra BAIL money, just in case……

My Oldest Nephew—CODE NAME: Future CM
C is my oldest nephew. He’ll be 16 when we go on this trip, so in a word, he makes me feel REAL OLD. He did his FIRST trip, at age 5, and he’s been back about with the grandparents about 6 times since. He’s in Performing Arts High School, and would like to be on Broadway someday. He’ll be the one working in the College Program in about 4 years, so if you see this tall blond kid in some of the shows, with a deep baritone voice, that’ll be him. He’s big into THRILL rides, NASCAR and Reality TV.

and lastly, the STAR of the trip, My Youngest Nephew—CODE NAME: Mater-Tater
E is the baby….we’ll not really a baby….he’ll be FIVE next month and almost SIX by his FIRST TRIP TO DISNEY!! He’s grown up, biding his time, until he could FINALLY go to see “The MICKEY”, so of course we ALL had to go too!!! He’s into all thing that move…..Boats, Cars, Planes, Trains…you NAME IT…..his favorite things are probably trains, so he is SUPER-DUPER excited to ride all of the Disney Choo-Choo’s

So here we are….they players in this real-life drama-dy. I’ll be posting dates, hotels, all the nitty-gritty in the next posts.

I’ll also be including link to all of my future updates, here on this first post. Hopefully, you’ll come along for the crazy ride to come…..thanks for reading!!

Chapter 3: Must learn to STOP thinking outloud......
Chapter 4: To DINE or not to DINE (on the Disney Dining Plan, that is.....)
Chapter 5: By popular demand---the DINING (version 1)!!
Chapter 6: A message to all.....

I'm definitely joining in! It's going to be fun counting down together! :goodvibes I can't wait to hear where you're going the be staying!

Yay Courtney!! Trip-buds DEFinately!! I'll be posting again tonight with the when, where and howzit, so stay tuned.....I'm watching the Bachelorette right now, so as soon as it's over....:happytv:

So you say you want the skinny….well OK, then….here it is, in all IT’S Glory:

So, originally, MATER-TATER’s first DISNEY trip, should have been this year. Unfortunately, Future CM and WaWa are taking a school trip to Italy this year, so funding needed to be pushed back until 2011. When my dad mentioned this to me, I said in passing “oh, that would be so fun to go for Mater’s first trip to WDW”…after all, we had done Future CM’s first Disney trip as a family, back in 2000. Turnabout is fair-play!! So, didn’t think anything more about it, until Grumpy called me one evening and announced that he only thought it fare that since he was bringing the WaWa crew to WDW, that he extend the same invitation to me and DL….on the DVC!!! HOLY SPORKS!! (now, you understand the PTR title…..multi-purpose, easy to pack and oh-SO cute!!)

The dates were determined by WaWa…..they had to coincide with summer vacations (she’s a dedicated mom and HATES to take her kids out of school for trips, much to the grandparent’s chagrin). So it was either late June or mid-July…..luckily, June was the biggest vote-getter, so the dates were set as:

Sunday, June 19th through Saturday, June 25th
Grumpy and Gimpy have had their hearts set on converting DVC points and staying in the new and re-imagined TREEHOUSE VILLAS at SSR, which would allow the grandparents and WaWa family to stay together. We would be given the option of a DVC studio, and as luck would have it, we didn’t “need” to stay at the same resort. I love my family, but I COVET my sanity MUCH MORE….LOL!!!

So, Grumpy got the master-DVC book out and we looked at all of the resorts. Since Grumpy was springing for our room, I didn’t think it was fare to lay down the gauntlet and demand BLT or AKL….I mean, the good bulk of the trip cost would be FREE, so in looking at the points, we figured that our two choices would be their home resort, Boardwalk Villas or across the lake at the Beach Club Villas, although secretly I was hoping for the BCV, since it would give us access to Stormalong Bay (my favorite POOL on property). But in the end, since we could book it the soonest and guarantee our dates, our resort will be

The Boardwalk Villas Studio, Standard View
Now, as you see, our date’s aren’t matching up with my signature….that’s because we’re planning to extent our stay for an extra THREE night, after the family departs on Saturday. Since we’ll be paying for this portion of our stay ourselves, I’m praying for a PIN code, or stay offer to hopefully get in to another Deluxe Resort….if not, then we’ll probably be booking one of the Moderate hotels. It’s a bit too far out still to finalize this portion, but we know the dates are FIRM!!

Still to come…..Dining Plans, Park Hoppers and Family Drama……oh MY!!!

So I’m at the Dr’s today and half to ask my parents a question about family medical history and I call and Grumpy answers and jumps right into that our room ressie is made and all that…..”um, I’m at the DOCTOR’S office right now”…..not quite the best time to jump into DISNEY mode, don’t cha think? Oh my dad…..God bless him…..LOL!!

So, our room is booked. YAY….we requested something close to the elevators---no floor preference. I’m easy….the room is for sleep, and SLEEP is what you do when you get HOME from WDW!!. We’ll see what happens when we get there.

I’ve started to make a preliminary list of things I would like to have for the trip…they’re not necessities persay, but they would be nice to have, and the excuse of this trip might be what tips the scale.

• A new camera…..back in 2003 we bought a super-nice, top of the line digital camera for our Hawaiian wedding/honeymoon trip….it had a great zoom and took excellent pictures. Fast-forward to 2005, when I took it on my DL trip. I had a fractured wrist at the time, so I was operating with one good hand and long story short, the camera got dropped at somepoint during the trip and I didn’t realize it. That same year, I went to WDW, and got the camera out that first night and nothing…..it was then that I realized that the casing had been cracked and the camera was a bust. To say that DL was pissed would have been a HUGE understatement. Well GIMPY, who was with me, felt bad a bought me the most expensive camera that they sold on property---a Kodak Easyshare digital. It’s a decent camera, but I’d really like to have something that took some GREAT pictures! So, I’m gonna be looking at some cameras, to see what Santa might like to bring me this year!

• Luggage—we also got new luggage in 2003, but it’s really been through the ringer, so I’m gonna need to check it out and see what can be salvaged.

• I’ll definitely be getting a new wardrobe, since NOTHING I have now will fit me by next year. YAY for cute new clothes!!

• Finally, a cute day bag…..something that’s cute and me…..maybe a Vera Bradley print?

I think some online shopping is in order…..or at least some looking around……:surfweb:

Since you are a neighbor i have to sub. I'm in Claymont and also a huge Disney Phanatic. Actually as bad as i am my wife is worse. We are going down November 29th till December 4 this year. My daughter worked for the mouse for the college program one semester and boy did we take advantage of the CM discounts. We got so hooked we bought DVC in AKL Kidani. Keep up the good work on your post surgery. Concerning luggage, i prefer duck taped coolers and WalMart bags :scared1: but the wife disagrees:confused3 Anxiously awaiting more reports. :surfweb:

Thanks Dawn....the weight loss has been mind-blowing...at the Dr's on Tuesday, I'm officially down 90 pounds since January (when this process started for me....) I'm trying to be down HALF the weight I was, and I have 11 more months until the trip!! :upsidedow

My dad is quite awesome, if I do say so.....

Thanks for climbing aboard my "crazy train".....:woohoo:

Welcome neighbor!! I do miss those CM perks....they were NICE to have!! I think my luggage is ok, but sadly, DL's may need replacing. Wish it was the other way around, but I doubt that he'd want to use MY luggage, which is Leopard print....:rolleyes1

Trying to get rid of the perpetual black cloud that’s been hanging around me……a bit of background. :offtopic:

I’ve been so excited about this trip, mainly since the last month has been so awful. Memorial Day we had a new addition to our family! A beautiful purebred Golden Retriever puppy we named Kaia. She was such a sweet girl. We had to put her down on July 5th. I don’t want to open the wounds, but her death was quite traumatic and something that I am trying to get over. It devastated me to the core. I only had her for 5 weeks, but it feels more like 5 decades. She came into our lives for a reason, and now we’re trying to sort out our lives without her. I feel like I’m mourning the loss of a child.

Needless to say, this trip came at the perfect time, as to give me something else to focus on. But, then they do say….when it rains, it POURS. Today on the way to work, my car started making this LOUD, BANGING sound and was LEARCHING about. I pulled over and got it parked in the back of a Sunoco gas station and called DL to come and get me and take me to work. After and arduous process, we arranged for the towing (thankfully covered by our Roadside Coverage---thanks ALLSTATE!!) and DL had to come back to get me at work at 11am so that we could meet the tow and get the car to our mechanic. DL had a feeling that is could possibly be my front axel, a bad CV joint or something in the suspension. We dropped the car off and got the call from them around 2:30pm----the engine mount bracket was broken in HALF….***?!?! Really!! So, they can’t do anything until that’s fixed, since you can’t DRIVE the car to check anything else. :worried: So, that repair is being done now, and then they’ll be able to evaluate the other systems and the axel to see if anything else is broken. Boy could I use the winning POWERBALL numbers, right about now…….

Now, I’m DONE with the Black Cloud DEBACLE……:hourglass lets talk DISNEY TRIP!!

DL is not a fan of flying, which is strange when you think about it…..an intergalactic Jedi :darth: that DOESN’T fly?? Well, I’m sure if it was a space ship or something, he’d be on board, but with the TSA involved….not so much. His ONLY experience with normal plane flights was on our trip to Hawaii. I, only the other-hand am the SEASONED TRAVELER of the family. My first plane trip was to Europe, when I was 14. Since that, I’ve flown almost a gazillion times--ok, maybe not THAT much, but its’ been A LOT. I don’t mind flying one bit….it’s fast!! So, I made the mistake of saying to DL….”oh, well we could always RENT a car here and drive down to Florida….” :stir: {What was I thinking, you ask?} :stir: I plead temporary INSANITY  ….really!! We checked the rates and to have the car from June 17th through June 30th, the cost would be less than $600.00. Now, DL has it in his head that that DRIVING :car: is the way to go…..NO!!!!! If we drive, that adds TWO days to both the beginning and end of the vacation (which means I would have to take 4 more vacation days), PLUS gas cost, PLUS lodging and food for those days (in addition to longer boarding cost for our other dog, Kona). I’m hoping that DL will see the logic (and budget savings) to FLY :magnify: …..come on SOUTHWEST….Dug needs some EXCELLENT rates for 2011!!

I'm so sorry for the loss of your pet. I know the deep pain you are feeling. Last October our dog Zoe died after we'd had her almost 15 years. It truly felt like we lost a member of our family and there are still days I tear up at the mention of her name.

Car problems are so stressful and such a pain. I hope it doesn't get too costly!

I hate car trips so I'll be crossing my fingers you end up flying! It's so much faster and easier!

My wife and i gave up on waiting for Southwest and their great rates. We ended up booking AirTran for Nov-Dec and saved several hundred dollars. I'm not sure what is happening with Southwest but the rates just don't seem to always be the best right now. We do love Southwest so if the rates had been close we would have stuck with them. I know your pain on the loss of a pet. We had adopted an older neglected "Olde English Bulldog" last year and he passed away after only 3 months. Like you said it felt like you had him for years. Darn, they grow on you quickly.

I love your resort choice! :thumbsup2 And as for a new bag - have you tried the VB hipster? I love it for the parks. It's definitely my go to park bag now.

I'm so sorry to hear about your puppy. The loss of a pet is so devastating.

Thanks for the  It gets easier to deal with each day, but I still wake up with nightmares every couple of days.

:wizard: about the car.....I've got my fingers crossed.....

FLYING is so much better than driving.....I may need to use a JEDI MIND TRICK....

Hoping that AirTran works for you.....it didn't for the family back in 2000, and they had the WORST flying experience ever. So, we always do SWA. Thank you for you thoughts about our loss. She definately has a BIG piece of my heart, which is on the mend....

The BWV is always great. I'm hoping we are on a higher floor, but really as long as we DON'T have noisy neighbors, don't really mind where we are!!

I have been looking at the VB Hipster....I think if I do go with a VB, it will be that style. I have the pattern choices down to three....maybe that should be my FIRST trip purchase?? :rolleyes1

 about Kaia.....I miss her every day!!!

Well... personally I think it is ALWAYS a good time to discuss disney... :rotfl:

Very cool that your Disney-downer is deciding to come with this time!! I hope you have a wonderful time!!
