I would definitely recommend the CSR or CSP over the Disney visa..the MSR is $4,000 on both which you would cover paying off the cruise. You could open one up and then send your spouse P2 a link to open their own so you double the amount of points you earn….I am looking to open a new credit card in hopes of using rewards, sign up bonuses, cash back etc. to go towards a Disney Cruise totaling $5149 ($4200 still due). I’m considering the Disney Visa to get a $300 bonus after spending the minimum. Is there another card I should consider?
The only credit card I’ve opened recently was a pottery barn capital one credit card to get a discount on my furniture (May 2022). Otherwise, all cards were opened at least 2 years ago- I have the Discover cash back card, southwest visa, and chase freedom unlimited. I only use the discover right now for the most part to get the cash back.
We live in FL so we don’t need points for flights as much as we used to. Would love points or bonuses to save for our Disney DVC dues, annual passes, and the cruise. I always pay off my cards every month- I don’t like to keep a balance on it. I’ve heard good things about chase sapphire… would anyone recommend that over the Disney Visa?
Got approved for my base Hilton card this weekAgree @DogCat , all the Hilton applications cite 7/19/2023 for the end. I wouldn't wait until last minute. When AmEx states a date, they pull on or before the date unlike Chase. So to be safe, plan for the 18th at the latest if you really want something.
The offer is for 2 people but you can book a room for 4 and just pay the 3rd/4th person fair. Thats what I did for CCL, snd the 3rd/4th person are the prevailing rates of a 3rd/4th for that cruise so that varied widely from $130pp to $500pp. We went w/ one of the cheapest ones (which was actually a nicer one surprisingly). One last question about the Wyndham cruise match etc-is this for one or two people? or can you book it for 4?
We all would probably recommend the CSP or CSR over the Disney card because the sign up is worth so much more. Best use of those points would be transfers for flights and hotels. Not exactly what you want.
I have two thoughts for your purposes. First would be a card like Capital One Venture or Venture X. Points are great to erase any travel charge such as cruise. Do you have a business or side hustle? The CIP has a great SUB right now.
It looks like the CSP and CSR would allow me to redeem reward points for gift cards but I don't see Disney gift cards available through Chase Ultimate Rewards. We don't need to fly or get a hotel because we live in FL, use DVC points for hotel stays etc. So I'm thinking these wouldn't be the right card for me? I got into this hobby to defray costs on our May 2022 WDW trip. Most folks (including me) don’t often use points to pay down your CC balance because you don’t get the most bang for your buck, but it sounds like that would suit your need here.It looks like the CSP and CSR would allow me to redeem reward points for gift cards but I don't see Disney gift cards available through Chase Ultimate Rewards. We would put common expenses like bills, groceries, restaurants, gas, the Disney Cruise $4000 remaining balance on the card. I think I'm looking for the best cashback card if not a Disney rewards card so that we can use the cashback towards Disney directly since we don't need flights/ hotels. The Discover card is in my name with my husband as an authorized user... I wonder if I can sign him up for his own card and get the cashback match after 1 year to get double cashback like I did when I first signed up a few years ago.

As @WaltsMartini stated here you can use your points for a statement credit. So if you had 70k points that’s a $700 statement credit. That’s why most would recommend a CSP over a Disney card.I got into this hobby to defray costs on our May 2022 WDW trip. In my case, I opened both a Chase Sapphire Preferred (CSP) and a Chase Southwest (CSW) in 2021. CSP had a sign-up bonus (SUB) of 80k points for hitting minimum spend requirement. I purchased our WDW park tickets from a discount vendor, put them on the CSP and then used the accumulated points to pay down my balance and to defray the cost (substantially!) CSW was used to pay for our family of four’s plane tickets.
You could pay for $1,000 of your cruise balance on the Disney Visa, apply the statement credit (saved $300). You could put remaining balance on the CSP to hit min spend and apply the points to your balance (80k sign up bonus plus roughly 12k points from a travel purchase, $920 off your balance). So you “save” $1,220 by using points accumulated to pay down your balance.
With the CSR you can use the PYB feature for grocery spend so what I do is buy you say $1,000 worth of Disney GCs and use PYB 80k URs to erase the charge…we also own DVC so I put the GCs towards our duesIt looks like the CSP and CSR would allow me to redeem reward points for gift cards but I don't see Disney gift cards available through Chase Ultimate Rewards. Capital One Venture also looks like they let you earn miles- since we don't fly often, that probably wouldn't be a good choice for us? Can you redeem rewards for anything besides flights?

Don't let the "points" and "miles" turn you off. Chase UR points can be redeemed for cash at 1 cent per point. So the CSP bonus right now would net you about $700 between the offer and points earned. There's also some ways to get higher redemption rate with PYB on the CSR. I believe grocery is a category still so buying DGC at the grocery store to help pay off the cruise can be used to "pay yourself back" at 1.25 cents per point, getting a higher value from the bonus. It looks like the CSP and CSR would allow me to redeem reward points for gift cards but I don't see Disney gift cards available through Chase Ultimate Rewards. CNN asked for permissions. So maybe.Wow! I may have seen your clip on the news!
You can still merry go round. The Hyatt/MGM can still be matched I think till the end of the month. But then that will dry up.Is it too late to do the Wyndham biz card for the cruise match? I've read where some of the matches are ending, but I can't tell for sure if it's with the Wyndham card or if it's just the Hyatt to MGM matches
Unfortunately, the tier match ended on July 14.You can still merry go round. The Hyatt/MGM can still be matched I think till the end of the month. But then that will dry up.
so they let you have two Hh biz? I was wondering if they'd allow 2 personal basic HH cc's with that linkDecided to try for the hilton biz since I don't have a spend. Recently cancelled my surpass but thought it was my biz. Applied, no pop up and was approved. Got it added to my login and see the other Hilton biz. If they don't care then I don't care
Also reminds me I should check my spreadsheet but at least I didn't get the pop up which I expected since I closed my delta plat back in Dec. With the timing of the spend and the fnc from my aspire they'll have close expiration dates and give me 2 which is easier to use than 1. Now to hope I can use it more than my csr in japan as that'll help with spend.
So I hold a basic discover cc, they'd let me hold a 2nd one?Don't let the "points" and "miles" turn you off. Chase UR points can be redeemed for cash at 1 cent per point. Likewise the Venture or Venture X miles can be used to erase a travel purchase. So if you use the cruise to earn the sign up bonus, all the miles earned can be used towards the charge like @Psychodisney mentioned.
Here's how Capital One says you can use the miles - https://www.capitalone.com/learn-grow/money-management/ways-to-redeem-venture-miles/
You could absolutely sign up for the Discover card and get the cashback match again - for either yourself or your husband. (Discover traditionally allows you to have 2 cards, they can be the same one I believe) It'll take you almost 5 quarters of maxing out the 5%, doubled, to match one of the other sign up bonuses though. You'll get more than 10% back on spend by looking at some of those points cards instead.
