We had 7:00 dinner reservations last Friday for our party of 6 adults and arrived around 6:35. They took our name and said someone would come and get us when our table was ready. Five minutes later we were escorted to our table by a very nice older gentleman, the type that always seems to have an interesting story to tell. The table was perfect, front section of the middle level, just to the left of center if you're facing the tanks. Riley was our server and he was excellent. We told him we were on the dining plan and he explained what was included. I told him that I was a vegetarian and we discussed my options. What I really appreciated about Riley was that when you asked him a question, he didn't speak to you across the table, instead he came over and spoke directly to you. Later in the meal, he noticed that our daughter had barely touched her meal (she was already full), but instead of speaking to her from the end of the table and drawing attention to it, he leaned over beside her and asked her if she liked her entree, if she didn't he said he would be happy to bring her something else instead. Wonderful service !!!!
Now, about the food. I had the mushroom soup (vegetable base), the vegetable strudel, and the chocolate wave. The soup was a little peppery but delicious. The strudel was one of the best vegetarian dishes I have ever had!!! The chocolate wave was excellent but all the desserts at Disney are very good but they all start tasting the same after a while.
My husband had the Caesar salad and they let him add fried scallops for no extra charge. The scallops were small but he said that they were tasty and were A nice addition to the salad. He had the steak and he said that it was good but really chewy in spots. He had the cheesecake for dessert and said that it was just okay.
My sister and our son both had the lobster soup and they both LOVED it !! They both had the steak and agreed with my husband that it had a nice flavor but some parts were chewy. My sister had the chocolate wave and our son had the butterscotch brulee and both them enjoyed their dessert.
Our daughter had fried calamari rings (that's what filled her up before her dinner came). She said that the breading was crispy and light and that the calamari rings were very tender, not chewy like they can be sometimes. She had the crabcake and said it excellent and was sorry that she was too full to eat more of it. Also, I have to say that I have seen the picture on this board of the crabcake that was from a podcast and it looked so much better in person. She had the Happiest Celebration On Earth for dessert and it was very good and beautifully presented.
Our daughter's boyfriend had the caesar salad with the fried scallops and really enjoyed it. For dinner, he had the mahi-mahi and said it was fresh and had a nice flavor. He had the butterscotch brulee for dessert and he said was so good he finished it even though he was really full.
This restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere. I had read that it was noisy but we didn't really find this to be the case. The lighting and the view of the fish in the tank was very relaxing. The timing of the meal was just right, not rushed at all. We were really glad to have the free dining plan because our total came to $346.17. This was our best and most memorable meal of our trip.

We love this place, too, and have it booked for our next trip. It always surprises me to read negative reviews about it, we've yet to have a bad experience there.

I know what you mean. We almost cancelled our reservation based on the bad reviews but we are so glad that we didn't !!!!

Thanks for the great review. Nice to read something positive.

We have an ADR for Sept. 9 and the reviews are 50/50 concerning the restaurant and the crab cake - desserts yeah! crabcake nay!

Oh, bother..... :confused3 ..... I am SO on the fence about that crab cake.

Babs

I think you should go for it !!!! DD said it was delicious, she was just so full from the calamari. Then again, you may get there and be in the mood for something entirely different. Whatever you have, I'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

I loved the crabcakes too! Our DD10 ordered them but ended up trading my entree (tuna) for hers. She's not usually an adventurous eater -- in fact, this trip was the first that she'd ever had crab cakes. She had some of mine at Kona and ordered them at Coral Reef expecting them to be "exactly" the same as Kona. They weren't, so we traded. It's OK though, because then DH ended up trading me the crabcakes for his blackened catfish because it was a little too spicy for him. It didn't matter to me, as I enjoyed all the entrees. If the tuna is available, that would be my choice, but the others were good too. One thing I'd be sure to order next trip (which I didn't order but my DD did) is the Lobster Bisque. It was TO DIE FOR!!!!!!! Have a great meal.

Sounds very good! I made an ADR for our Feb. trip, but then ended up cancelling it and making an ADR for Capt. Jacks. I did this mainly because of the increase in bad reviews CR was receiving. I am starting to see some better ones, but I'll keep watching, and maybe change it back to CR.

So glad to see another good review as we're dining there on Oct. 8. Can't WAIT! Definitely going to have to try the lobster bisque. Thanks for your review! :thumbsup2

I tried to talk my kids out of eating there last week based on the reviews also.

I'm sure glad they wanted to go- it was one our best meals during our trip!

I was starting to get nervous after reading all the bad reviews about this place. Glad I didn't cancel. Thanks for the review. Im looking forward to having dinner here.

Enjoyed reading your review ~ Thanx for sharing.

Thanks for the review. We will be dining at CR for the first time in December. There will be 6 adults in our party also. :)

My family and I ate there last Nov for my 24th B-Day. I was so glad I didn't listen to other people's bad reviews because it was one of the best places I have eaten at the Disney Theme Parks. I loved the Lobster soup and the Chocolate Wave dessert.

I was under the impression that the area was closed for the month of October. Does anyone know for sure? Would love to try it out! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the wonderful review. Glad you enjoyed it. I'm trying to see if I can sneak a visit in for February, but so far I've been out-voted. :(

Incidently, I haven't heard anything about the restaurant being closed for any period coming up. Note that even when the attraction is closed, the restaurant is typically unaffected.
