DH and I went to Japan in 2012 and are heading back shortly. If I take our Suica passes from last time, can they still be used and save us money? Will they still be active after 4 years? I think I remember reading that it could be used on future trips and you wouldn't have to pay a deposit? Or something similar?
If not used for a period of 10 years, the Suica becomes invalid. For such invalid cards, the following options are available:
Get a replacement Suica card
The charge on the invalid Suica will be transferred to your new card.
Get a refund
A refund will be pmade after subtracting a refund fee from the charge on the invalid Suica. The initial deposit of 500 yen will also be refunded.
