During our stay in December, we came back to our room in the afternoon on day 1 as I've always done, to take a nap. We did not refuse mousekeeping, for what that's worth. Our room had already been done that day. I had NO idea about the room checks. Put out our little sign on the doorknob, crawled happily into bed, and dozed off. I wear earplugs because DB snores, so I guess I never heard the knock. What I DID hear was the courtesy check gentleman slamming the door open against the deadbolt block. I spent a very unhappy several minutes telling him we were napping, and heck no he wasn't coming in our room while we were in there. He left and took our door hanger sign. Couldn't get back to sleep after that. Called the hotel and spoke to the manager, and they still didn't mention security checks. Just told me they were maintenance checks. I reminded them we were in a freshly renovated room and I'm sure mousekeeping would have noticed anything that was broken. Got nowhere, they just continued lying to me.
One of the company office folks called me the next day while we were out trying to enjoy one of the parks. I missed the call, had to call back and left a message. Spent two days playing phone tag. I never did get a straight answer or the actual word "security" check out of the lady, although she did tell me that the front desk was supposed to be telling people about the room checks at check-in. uhhh ... NOPE. I didn't find out what was actually going on until I did an internet search to see if others were having the same issue at disney, and found the thread about room checks here in the DIS forum. (I signed up a long time ago and have been pretty much inactive here since then.)
FWIW, the resort was ASM. It was my first time staying at a value resort, and it'll be the last.
