Why do people lurk?

I lurked once.......now look where it got me.....I am a bonafide Disney fanatic and can hardly wait for our next trip........

Welcome again and if you have any questions just yell......a few of the others are probably watching some game with a pigskin......ROFL.......but they will be here shortly...

Hey Nank, guess I should delurk too! LOL! I had to laugh when I saw a name I knew! :cool1:

It shouldn't be "Lurker" but rather just "Looker" and "learner." I watched what kind of forum this was before I began answering. There are some Disney forums that are dominated by a half dozen people who have nothing better to do than peck slowly away at anyone who disagrees with them. Their persistence gives them legitimacy. No sense posting there.

Anyway, I always hope that I contribute something that is new to someone, and I will listen to criticism of my suggestions with an open mind.

That said, I am not ready to add details of my personal life to this forum. Not yet at least.

Sometimes people lurk because they just don't have anything to add. Maybe they are just looking for information.

Thanks Pumba. I'm already a disney fanatic...so I should fit right in.

I have lurked for several weeks because I really didn't have anything to add. The information I've obtained is priceless. I feel right at home (everyone loves disney!!!) :earboy2:

I have been lurking for months or so - feeling things out, etc. Also since planning the next trip isn't in the immediate works - I don't have many questions! Although it would be nice if I could automatically make my post count 50 or something so I don't look like a total novice!

Oh jeez I just proved my post...the one I just tried to make but lost, ugh!

I was trying to say that for me lurking is usually because I can't figure out HOW to post, duh, it's driving me nuts but I seem to be 50/50 on it now. My big problem still is the chat. I can enter the chat but the FIRST time I try to send anything by clicking send OR hitting return I am no longer in the chat, I am back on the sign in page. Any help would be appreciated. I can't figure out WHERE the chat goes or what I'm doing wrong!!! :confused3

I'm a lurker, too. Most of the time, I don't think I have anything great to add to the conversation. I do get a bunch of good info here, though. If I'm having a good day, I may add something. I guess today is a good day!

When I was lurking I somehow wasn't totally dised out. Now I think I've lost it. I had soo much fun at the superbowl party yest because I was showing people the dis and my 4yo DN was sitting in my lap four hours looking at dis stuff. I stopped lurking and now I'm a mouseketeer. My husband thinks it's both weird and cute. Do you think there's something in the energy on the dis that is actually addictive?! :teeth:

I only recently started posting and even then I don't post much because it seems that by the the time I get to reading a thread, I don't have much to add.

Also, for a while, everything I left the site, I would get automatically logged out and my new password didn't work. Now, at least lately, I've been staying logged in.

But every once in a while, I have to reset my password, therefore, posting was frustrating!

I am here looking for usefull information. I have found quite a bit. Unless I have similarly usefull information, I don't post. The site is great, things are cool, I dont want to be the ****** here, but I dont feel the need to post unrelated BS all the time, I'm not here just to make friends with people I will never hang out or have dinner with (or even meet), and I don't feel the need to post my bit in a long line of "congrats" or "pixie dust to you" posts. So I lurk. Sorry.

I proudly confess to be a DIS board addict (My confession of being an addict can be found some where w/in the pages of the 9/19 September 19th Revisited cruise meets thread) The DIS board can become very addictive. Some times its to see how many posts you can post, another reason could be if some one has replied to your post either as a responder or a thread starter (esp. being a thread starter). Some times I want to see if there's any new threads started or check out the threads I've read in the past. I was posting so much last night that my e-mail was behind updating me with the e-mail alerts to new posts. LOL. If your comfortable with typing and find topics that interest you, you'll be posting often.

Sure, I still lurk. I started lurking before I posted this post. LOL :goodvibes: It's good to read what others have posted before putting in your two cents worth.

Happy lurking and posting all! :disrocks:

I lurked for a while myself. and I still don't post a LOT. The main reason...the questions have been asked.

Checking in! I'm an official de-lurker after over two years poking around on the boards! Dopey's Girl is dead on as to why.

I use the search primarily for specific information. I do an exhaustive search on this board, and until ten minutes ago, every answer was available....and even by posting now, I feel the question's been already asked-n-answered but I didn't search smarter!

Ultimately, I don't want to repeat what's already been said.

I do respect the community end of this board. There are people who have become close friends, supported each other through tough times and celebrated with each other through highlights both Disney and non-Disney related....and this I see as being the primary reason why those who post regularly do.

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now, but it's got nothing to do with being shy or afraid of the 'net :) I just find there's such a wealth of information that I don't feel a need to pose my own questions -- and I certainly don't have any answers since we're planning a first-time trip.

Why lurk? Why not? People are not always who you think they are. Besides, as in any social gathering, listening is ALWAYS so much more intelligent and informing than talking!

As you can see by the date I joined and the number of posts I've done, I'm a big time lurker. Like some of you have said, most of my questions get answered and most of the answers are already posted by the time I read them. Usually my answer is the same as two or three so I just read. I've learned a lot from this board and I'm very glad they allow lurking...

Occasionally I do answer questions but only after the OP post a bump because no one has responded yet and I know what they're asking. Otherwise, I content myself with just reading the awsome information on this board.

I think it's all been said. I lurked for a couple weeks just to try to get a feel of the boards. Then I 'discovered' the search tool so it made it easier to see if my question had already been asked. There is just so much info on these boards I don't feel the need to ask many questions. I don't reply much because I've only been to DW once and I don't know nearly enough to answer LOL but I am learning from you guys
