As promised, Totally Outragous Behavior~

YEAH CMs for doing a great job...and keeping their composure :)

We specifically chose the DDP and have ADRs so our DD3 and DS5 will be able to see their "friends" without waiting in lines that could be cut off as we walked up. I would have been really *upset* about the family at 1900 Park Fare. Sounds like Time did a wonderful job!!!

I get that costs, money flowing, tempers short, and people thinking they are entitled to EVERYTHING WDW has to offer without waiting their turn or coming back at the designated time, but it just ruines it for those making the right choices and gives the CMs and characters a harder day than needed.

We saw a few this trip too. Always amazing.

- Woman at YC waiting for bus to MK. It comes and we all get on. She gets on and tells driver, she is calling her family in the room and they will be down in a few minutes. She was quite angry when driver said we would not be waiting for them and got off swearing.

- At MVMCP on the 2nd, they were putting up the rack fo party mdse. around 645. Very large woman pushing people and grabbing arm loads of mdse. from CM at Xmas shop in Liberty Square. We were in line a little later to pay and she was in front of us. CM asked to see her bracelet as it was just going on 7. She didn't hav eone and had a fit when the CM said she could not purchase the special mdse for party. She ended up throwing it at the CM and then pushed people to storm out of the store.

- Were in SAB and DD was talking to a little girl with a MVMCP bracelet on about the party and how much fun it was. Girl said he rmommoy told them they all had to keep the bracelets on so they could get into all of the parties this week without paying again! Refrained from telling the girl her mommy was a thief!

DW and I have been that last family in line for different characters. The CM would tell people that the line was close. Most people would say ok and walk away. But a few would say are you sure,CM would say yes. Then a few would test them and say they where leaving and it was the only time they would get to see them. I remember one time 2 years ago in Dec. we where in line to get a pic of the fab 5 in christmas coustumes. We where the last in line and this guy came up to the line. And the CM told him the line was closed, he told her they where his DD fav. He got really snotty with her and then really neasty with her. She keep her cool though we told her she need a person to be on her side that here was our name and resort. She some times the person tells upper management. This guy was a jerk sorry to say this he called her bad names and told her that she had no magic in her body. After he left I told her she had lots of magic. If it had been me I would have flatten the guy. But that would have been wrong thing to do in the happies place on earth.

I can't even imagine the stuff y'all see! Once on Disney Cruise Line we were going to get in line to see Mickey, but the handler told us that he'd be leaving and we'd actually see Pluto or someone...can't remember who. Fine by us, as it's not like there aren't tons of opportunities to see Mickey on the ship. Not so fine for the family who came after us. Their kid started screaming, and I mean screams that echoed throughout that atrium, and then she laid down and started rolling on the floor! And this was not a little kid either. I don't know if she had a disability or was just a stone cold brat, but Dad just stood there watching, making no attempt to quiet her down or take her away, even tho' everyone was staring due to the ear-shattering screams. I wonder if he (and she) thought her behavior was going to get the handler to change her mind. Nope, didn't happen, so finally she got up and they stalked off with the kid still sniffling, both casting angry glares at the poor handler.

That is one type of reaction to a tantrum. IGNORE it. The kid exerts tons of energy and get absolutely nothing out of it including attention. It really works if consistently used. It is particularly hard to do with a crowd of strangers watching, but if you were to pool the people you would find that for the most part they were routing for the parents.

Not all parental non-action is really a mark of non-interest. It is very difficult to be the center of what is perceived as negative observation, but when you know it's right, then it must be done. I don't know if that was what was happening there, but it very well could have been. I was known to totally ignore my kids if they decided to have a hissey fit. There was no way they were going to get anything with that type of behavior.

I see a general theme/line of "we're leave the park and this is my child's last/only chance to see the character(s)." If it was that important than maybe the family should have made that the priority at the begining of the day rather than rides!

I used to get upset that when my kids were little and they had NO INTEREST in meeting the characters, or wanting to stand in line to get autographs. The would get excited and point out the characters, but that was enough for them. They were really just interested in the attractions.

Seems like the kids saved me a lot of headaches and drama! :thumbsup2

Exactly, on our October trip we made it a point of asking our daughter (4) who she wanted to see in advance. We explained she would not have time to see everyone and might need to pass a few lines. On our 2nd to last day we still had not seen a Princess other than Jasmine and we got a pic with her within the first 15 minutes of arriving on day 1. So the last day we were at toon town at rope drop to see Belle, Cindy & (the ugliest) sleeping beauty.
Planning is a wonderful thing.

I had no problem, none at all if someone was acting up or being just plain stupid, to just walk off stage or walk somewhere else. I think after 3 summers of dealing with it I just came to the realization I got better things to do then deal with STUPID people. It is all we could really do sometime because the larger characters (Goofy, Hook, Baloo, Tigger) didn't always have a character host because they firgured that the host needed to be with Donald and the smaller characters. And you can't talk so walking away became the way of dealing with things :rolleyes1

Now why didn't I think of the taxi-bus transportation system!!! :rotfl2:

I'd almost forgotten about a bad scene I witnessed a couple of months ago. I was waiting for my family to come off Splash, and wandered down toward the open area just past the bathrooms; there are some benches there and it was a good place to wait with the sleeping baby. There was also a BIG line for some characters; I can't even recall which ones. But they did the typical switch, and the line was going to be at a standstill for a few minutes. The CM made some typical cute announcement to those near the front. OMG, this one woman went ballistic on him. She then proceeded to VERY LOUDLY proclaim to everyone around, over and over again, that "the character who is really just a person in a constume had to go take a break". Purposely trying to ruin any magic for the young children around. It was so unbelievable.

I wonder if the solution to these people is to point a video camera in their faces during their behavior. Maybe knowing that they were being filmed would curtail them. In the least, it would make some good u-tube segments.

Unfortunately there are people that go to Disney world and get a kick out of ruining the magic for the younger children by telling them that the characters are just people in costume. I used to (note: USED TO) be friends with someone who got the biggest kick out of going with his mom to WDW and telling all the kids in line that wasn't really Mickey Mouse, just some girl in a costume. I never talked to him again after he told me. It made me view him in an entirely different light.

I like the video camera idea. Also several other people as a group need to loudly contradict her anyway and say, "She is wrong" and "She's a liar" or "She does not know what she is talking about."

OP, your story is almost so rude that it is comical. I would be in such disbelief if I were there that people would actually do something like that. That lady took entitlement to a whole new level!

Luckily, we have not experencied too much by way of rude behaviour at WDW. I hope that continues. The only time I can recall was when waiting for the bus to leave AK. There was a long line that had formed to catch the resort bus since AK had just closed. This lady came up pushing a stroller and just made her way to the front of the line, outside of the designated cue. I think she thought strollers somehow got special treatment. A little while later, the rest of her party came out of the park and joined her at the front of the line.

I really, really should have said something and regret not doing it. The stroller was definitely not marked as a substitute for a wheelchair either, which I probably would have understood just a little bit better.

thank you so much for saying it first :lmao: . No offense to the actresses who play Sleeping Beauty, but can't Disney make that wig just a little more attractive...and the dress? :confused3

Haha!! I agree. Aurora's costume (especially the wig) is in massive need of a refurb!!

One time when I was greeting for Pluto by the Castle, there was a family who wasn't even in the line but wanted to take a picture of Pluto by himself. They actually tapped me on the shoulder and asked me to move! :scared1: Well, Pluto overheard what they said and basically, if I moved, he moved so they couldn't get a picture. :lmao:
See ... this to me is rude on the part of the Character (and, sorry to say, you as Pluto's handler). There's nothing wrong with someone wanting a photo of a character alone without standing in line. If the Guest just wants a photo, but isn't trying to jump in line or push through to get one, that hurts no one. You were wrong. (And yes .... I have been a Character.)

:earsboy:

What?? Isn't that what the line is for, to wait for a picture or autograph?:confused3 If those people wanted a picture, they needed to wait in line, just like everyone else.

No I think the line is to take a picture WITH the character and get an autograph. If someone wants a quick picture of the character alone (say in between one family to another) and is not holding up the line then why not?

Because if everyone did that, the exit would be blocked and there would be no room.

That's how I thought it worked - if you want a picture of a character, then hop in line with the rest of the folks who are also waiting to get a picture of a character. Simple enough! :)

I have to say that everybody has the wrong attitude. You, the CM, Pluto and the guests. A line is there for that reason. The handler should have responded one way, Pluto should not have egged it on and the guest should have got in line like the rest of the people. That is what it is there for.
