2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

As crazy as it sounds, if you have shoes with a higher drop, you might try simply wearing those a while too.

It was recommended to me a few years back and I associated it with voodoo or some such nonsense, but it actually helped me quite a bit.

Brian

Thanks!!! My New Balance 720 have a 10mm drop so I'll wear them for the next few days.

I can't imagine planning for that many people. I'd go bonkers since I'm sure not everyone wants to ride the same things!!!

Tomorrow is 2 weeks until arrival at WDW for me. I'm dropping my DS off at school at 8am on Thursday then driving straight to the expo. I want to get that done and over with before I go check in at my resort.

If it's any consolation, I'm doing the same.

Not sure why they picked Easter break for it .... but my son, 15, will be doing the same band thing!

Only bonus is that when we decided to go, a while back, there were still 'some' deals ... and then we saw the darned Dark Side races the following weekend and said what the heck .... while we're there .... just extend a couple of nights and give Disney more money!

So on a year when we were only planning on W&D ... we're in for Princess, Star Wars, W&D and then Dopey.

Brian

Haha! I know how that is. I got sucked in to the Dark Side last year. Last year I did Princess, Dark Side and W&D. I was not planning to do Princess this year until I heard the rumor about BAtB being the theme. After I signed up for GSC I convinced DH that we should go to DL for Tink this year too so that I can do C2C, so I couldn't quite justify staying in April for SW again.

Do you know when your DS is performing? Maybe we will cross paths.

If you call Disney, they can and will help you with FP for that large of a group. We always travel with a large group (my parents, my sisters and their husbands, and the 11 of us - I think our smallest group was 21) and I do all the planning. One year, before FP+ but when sit down meals were included in value free dining, there were 50+ of us with family friends that joined us. I did all the ADRs. It was a bit of a nightmare, but Disney was great with making it happen.

That is good to know! I have us all set up in MDE and ready to go. I have separated us into 10 groups of 4 and I'm planning to do the FP that way. If I hit a snag I will definitely call Disney for help. I'm trying to keep this as simple as possible, and we are not doing any dining reservations so that should help with the flexibility. We are also not planning on having everyone tour together as one large group.

@HockeyMomNH you are a saint. :worship:
The second link is making me want to take all of the photos and not care about time. I'm so torn - do I go for a great finish time or enjoy the course since I paid so much for it?
OMG for sure "all of the photos" here!! :yay: These are photos I cannot get on courses at home and like you said, it's not like this registration was cheap. Allllll of the photos!! :teeth:

I just got a call from Disney. My mom and I were scheduled for POR. The CM said "Because of an error in our inventory system, would you be willing to switch to AKL?"

Um, I'm not sure I could a handle such a terrible downgrade. :rotfl2:

So, it's not the CL that I think @courtneybeth got, but I never thought I'd get to stay in a Deluxe! Very excited! Of course now I have to reschedule everything, since Boma is right there tempting me with breakfast...

Yes! Another upgrade in the thread. Do you know if you have Savannah View?

We ended up with the Club Level because we booked a Business Class room at Coronado Springs... but so so so so so awesome you got the bump up to AKL. Oh darn, have to ice your body while staring at animals :D Get that Boma and Sanaa reservation!

How awesome is that!? I'm also at POR... maybe I should call and generously offer to switch! ;)

Oh yes, we got the weather yesterday and last night too. It's 47 here right now, feels like summer! We are not supposed to get as much here tomorrow as you are. 3-6 inches, I think. It's fine as long as we don't get any bad weather on 2/22 when we fly out. Then I can snow all it wants! haha!

Are you right in Boston? My DD17 just got accepted to Berklee School of Music, so it looks like I might be spending more time in the city. :-)

I am 7 miles outside. smack dab in suburbia! I wanted to get an apartment in the city but they are SOOO expensive and tiny, so now i'm staying right outside, but close enough for the T/MBTA.

and nice! Congrats to your daughter! I've gone to some concerts there. She'll have plenty of things to do in the city and tons of other students. When I looked at schools I wanted NOTHING to do with Boston since my parents were so close and i'm an only child, and now I regret it.

Two weeks from tonight (10pm) we'll be on an overnight flight LAX ---> Orlando. I feel like this will be a very long two weeks, and probably a very long travel day. Our plan is essentially to take Magical Express to AKL at 6am knowing we can't check in but will use the club level for breakfast before calling an Uber to take us to line up for the merch line.

Then... it's just a long wait until we can get into the room for a nap. Maybe we'll head to Magic Kingdom early for our dinner reservation and enjoy the park before having an early bedtime.

Overnight flights are not fun, but there's no other way for us to get to the Expo to pick up our 5K / GSC bibs in time. We'd be cutting it close with an early morning flight. :(

Whats everyone wearing for the races?? I haven't given it much thought because I told myself I'd just stick to my regular running gear (capris and tank top) but after reading so many blogs and looking at photos from years past I'm thinking I want to jump on the sparkle skirt and tiara train! I know its late but I think I can throw something together last minute. Any suggestions of any shops that have quick shipping?

Standard view, but Touring Plans is helping me find a very nice "Standard View" to request. :cool1:

I ordered my sparkle skirt for this year off of Amazon Prime, so that might be an option for you. If you get really stuck I see that both Sparkle Skirts and Sparkle Athletic have a booth at the expo so you could probably find something there. Tiaras you could find on Amazon too I am sure, or if you aren't too picky on how fancy you want a tiara I have seen some at Walmart or Claires. There is also a store at Disney Springs that sells tiaras and they are very pretty!

I tend to go with normal running clothes but theme them as a character (see avatar - last year I was Snow White) so I am still comfy but still in the spirit. I always have a sparkle skirt of some kind on though, covers my rear and it is shiny and pretty! This year I am wearing a purple shirt, green sparkle skirt and red headband to be in the theme of Ariel!

I had a Minnie Mouse tank made (with my name on the back) and black capris. The skirts are so cute, but just not for me.

Rawthreads has expo pickup but I think they have two day shipping. I was looking there a few days ago at stuff. Sparkle skirts is at the expo too.

I decided not to buy anything to dress up. I have an Athleta clearance obsession. I decided to spend money on a new dress to wear for a picture with all of my medals in front of the castle.

ETA: I do have a little tiara I will wear though.
