OFFICIAL CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY SEASON & NEW YEAR'S 2017 THREAD

Hello All! I am a lover of maps and a lover of Disney. The Disney sites have an amazing graphic overlay tied into Google maps but have never offered us the ability to download it for ourselves. So I spent some time taking screen shots in a grid pattern until I had this map:

Disneyland-Map.jpg

But I wanted more! So I zoomed in and after capturing and assembling 98 images I came up with this, which on the surface looks the same, only without the property labels:

Disneyland-Map2.jpg

HOWEVER, when you zoom in to the16MB large format version (which you can CLICK HERE to download) you will find that you can see that it shows every ride, every restaurant, everything in the parks and hotels! I think it has a much cleaner layout than the maps they hand out and will be having one printed at Staples for our trip.

I hope you all enjoy it! :cool1:
Wow...that is a lot of work. You should post it on the main page as well. Is this before the change to the rail line?

It was a bit of work, basically an evening on my laptop while Disneyland YouTube vids played in the background. I'll see about making a post on the main Disneyland feed of it.

In answer to your question I don't think it shows the change in the rail line but it does show ToT changed over to GotG Mission: Breakout.

This is FABULOUS! So much fun to zoom in and imagine I am there. Thank you for sharing this!!

How is it to be at the parks during the transition from Christmas, back to regular? And has it been announced when the last day of Christmas will be?

I think that, festivity-wise, we at least know that the Candlelight Processional will take place on the first full weekend of December. That's a given.

I was thinking that Sunday, December 3rd (our arrival day) would be a candlelight processional dnight. Will that make it crazy busy? We have a 5-day hopper and I am waffling between going Sunday Night through Thursday vs. Monday through Friday. I have no interest in the processional, and the latter would give us an extra day in LA, which would be great. What do y’all think?

We have done both DLR and WDW within the week of New Years and in general the stuff comes down pretty quickly after New Year's Day. Specifically the Jungle Cruise & IASW both close down in early January to remove the holiday stuff and reopen in early February at the latest. I think the Bug's Land stuff comes down around the same time frame. Splash Mountain traditionally closes in mid-January thru February for seasonal refurb/cleaning of the waterways. In CA Grizzly River Run goes thru a similar refurb schedule to Splash. All this info is subject to change at the whim of the parks of course.

The upside of being there in January is lower crowds, we walked on and rode multiple rides multiple times. Depending on the year you can be hit by some rain here and there. The park hours are shorter during the week, but there is still plenty of time in the day to do/see what you want. You certainly would want to include a weekend in your trip to catch some of the bigger events like World of Color as they probably won't run during the week.

I hope this info helps! :goodvibes

I will probably make that evening pretty crowded if you went, some of it depends on what celebrity they get to do the reading. If you're not interested in in you would probably be better served by choosing the latter time-frame :thumbsup2

My kids are getting wound up going to the parks for Christmas! :santa:

I think I've impressed my hubby too - told him we're having a special dinner at Steakhouse 55 for Christmas dinner! My favourite kind - one I don't have to cook!

We're really looking forward to this trip. I thought we could do the 23, 24 & 25 at DLR/DCA, then 26 & 27 at USH, and our final two days on the 28 & 29th back into DLR/DCA.

We have our list of 'must do' rides (Screamin', BTMRR, & GoG, Mater), 'would like to do again' rides (Jingle Cruise, Pirates), 'things to see' (MatMM, Tangled) at FF, and 'places to eat'. That probably covers it, eh? :woohoo:

Would love more suggestions though of not-to-miss things. I checked out the official website to make sure, but it's always good to have insider ideas.

Can I ask how were you able to book your Christmas dinner at Steakhouse 55? I would love to book Christmas Eve dinner but when I went online it would only allow reservations up to October 13.

I didn't say I'd booked it. I said we're going. I'll be booking it the second I can when it comes available online.

If you want to do something special, I found that the Catal restaurant DtD does a Breakfast with Santa event on certain days. I thought it was a great value. You give the kids name at time of booking and they get personalized stockings, a gift from Santa, milk and cookies, etc. it looked really adorable!!

I'm sorry. You mentioned in your post that you told your husband that you were having a special dinner at Steakhouse 55 for Christmas dinner so I just assumed you had booked it.

How is the swimming in December? I'm not really sure what to expect for weather the first week of December and if I should promote or downplay the pool to our toddlers. Thanks!

FWIW, I read it the same way you did.

I don't know about Dec, but it's been warm enough to swim over Thanksgiving week before. But it's also been super cold. I wouldn't say anything, but pack bathing suits just in case.

I am so excited, DH surprised me and said that we should upgrade our current reservation at PPH and switch it to GCH. I could hardly believe my ears when he said that, I mean I was already super excited that he agreed to going for Christmas and New Years, but I didn't think he would want to stay at GCH too, since it is pretty pricey that time of year. Our dates have stayed the same (12/24-1/1), but now we are booked in a woods/courtyard view at GCH. We have stayed at GCH twice before but in the DVC area, this will be our first time staying in the hotel section. I have been non stop smiling since I have called to make the change :woohoo:.

That sounds awesome! ETA: I just looked it up and holy wow! It's $75/adult and $30/kid... for under 10 years! My kids will be 11 and 13, and there's no way I'm paying $300 for the four of us to do this. Even if they allowed us the cheaper price it's still $210 for the event. I understand the majority of the money is for the stocking and BaB (bottomless mimosas don't sound bad either, and I could probably drink $75 worth of champers), but it is still steeper than I had expected. I'll have to seriously think about it, especially if our dollar keeps going into free-fall as it's been this past week.

Also, doesn't the Jazz Kitchen do a gingerbread house during December or am I imagining things?

I didn't mean to mislead anyone. There's no way I could book it now, but there's nothing stopping me in saying we're going to eat there, right? Girl's gotta dream....

I asked a vague question about the change over before, and thank you for the answer I received. I have more specific questions now.

I am trying to work an outline for a trip that is January 5th-9th. So part while Christmas is still going, and part after it has ended. I am hoping to do a couple dining packages one for F! and one for WOC. Assuming that Christmastime will end on Sunday the 7th... I was wondering does WOC go down at all for a length of time to change back to the regular show starting the 8th?

Also, when we wake up and go to the park Monday the 8th, will it be like Christmas disappeared over night? All decorations gone or will it slowly get taken down over the next couple days? Will the castle be completely covered that morning to take the holiday theme down or does it stay up a little past?

TIA

True, I realize everyone has their own sense of "value". I have two kids under 10 so maybe it wasn't as painful. I think it was $187 or something for our family to do it, which to me, seemed reasonable considering all that goes into it (and just getting a big breakfast).

Yes, Ralph's will be doing a gingerbread thing. I called them to inquire and they weren't sure on their dates but they put me on their email list for when the event goes on sale. Call them and see if you can get added. I think the spots fill up fast because it's only like 4 days the whole month.

ETA Maybe the price was different for our weekend. Maybe closer to Christmas is more expensive?
