I love credit cards so much!

So for those of you involved on r/churning you might have seen the recent post of a survey coming up to discuss 3rd party sites and referrals. I definitely have gotten my fair share of referrals over there - at one time I was quite involved there. BUT I will say my time is now spent like 90-10 HERE because of how much more fun the discussion is. I love our little group!

Thanks EVERYBODY for making this an awesome place to discuss our hobbies (and other random things that intersect it like FIRE, budgeting, horse braiding...etc. lol!) I honestly was going to start listing names of everybody I love here but then I was thinking there's like 20 or more of you, lol!

Also thanks for everybody who has helped support our DISchurners endeavor. So appreciative of all the thank you messages I've gotten from people who have gotten points through that!

Also - obligatory informercial... If you want to join our DISchurners Reddit Group PM @SouthFayetteFan and @Albort here on the DISboards with your Reddit Username and we'll get you added! DISchurners is our private group where we can share links and support each other.

If only...she's insisting her husband is the roadblock. He doesn't want to call in and do the work :confused3 and quite frankly, she's not looking to get into this hobby, but just wants the card.

The only other way to try is apply, get denied, on recon, ask recon to ignore the AU. This may/may not work. YMMV.

Yeah... my understanding was she can call the number on the back of her cards and have herself removed, hopefully someone will chime in if I'm wrong. Another read on it is that if she's "insisting" her husband is blocking things maybe the reality is she doesn't actually want to do the work required to get the card & it's bonus. And if she applied without the AU being removed from her credit reports she'll have to HUCA and reps aren't always responsive to that. It took me 3 times with my CSR to find a rep who would overlook the 1 AU account on my file. Basically, no matter what route she picks (being removed as an AU or HUCAing past her AUs) she'd have to do a decent amount of work to get the card. And then if she does half the work and gives up, or there is something about their financial situation she is not disclosing to you and she gets denied for the card she might blame you for all the hassle she went through...

Hi all! I am new to this thread, but love Disboards, Disney, and churning. I would love to earn enough for an Alaskan cruise ($12K!) in 2 1/2 years.

Right now, I do some mild card churning. I am currently working on 3 Delta Amex cards and a couple Amex Blue Cash cards.

I just discovered bank account churning last year. Made about $2K, although it was more painful than credit card churning.

Anything I am missing besides bank accounts and credit cards? A friend just clued me in on prescription transfers and that I could make about $25/month with that.

Any resources you could point me to for MS? That is something I have never done or really understood if it is worth it, but I recently funded a new bank account with $2K from my Chase and it got me thinking!

Hope this is appropriate for the thread- let me know if it isn’t!

Yeah, I told her she can try to call and upgrade her new Freedom that was opened in October if she wanted the path of least resistance. And by that, I mean she makes a phone call and knows if it's a yay or nay on whether or not it's doable.

Not so fast!

Last year, Visa issued new guidelines to Plastiq that disallowed the use of Visa credit cards for payment of mortgages. Since then, Amex issued similar rules for their cards and Plastiq has been tightening up on these kinds of transactions when using Visa or Amex cards. If you try to make a payment to a mortgage provider or servicer, especially if it's a big or well known company, Plastiq will probably return an error, tell you that it can't process the payment, and to use a MasterCard or Discover card instead. My guess is to comply with Visa's and Amex’s policy, Plastiq has a blacklist of mortgage providers and servicers that prevent payment if you try to pay any off that list using a Visa or Amex.

However, there are still gaps in this policy and you may still be able to slip your mortgage payment through the system!

What is your mortgage company? Your mortgage company is probably already in Plastiq's system and blocked for Visa and Amex cards.

First, you have to understand that Plastiq has a list of "recipients" or payees already in their system. These recipients are likely pre-programmed in by Plastiq or have previously received payments from Plastiq's users. Plastiq will probably have gone through its database of recipients and flagged most mortgage providers or servicers to reject payments using Visa or Amex cards. So when setting up your mortgage payment recipient, don’t accept Plastiq’s autofill because it’s probably on their blacklist. Fill in the recipient details yourself and try to change the name or address just enough that it’ll get where it needs to go, but might slip through Plastiq’s block. You may have to try a few variations to get it to work with the CIP.

This is how @vanjust14 got her mortgage payment to Provident to process through Plastiq: https://www.disboards.com/threads/i-love-credit-cards-so-much.3528202/page-567#post-58604302

Next, by setting up a "new" recipient, you will not have a prior established relationship with the payee. You've never paid this "recipient" before, and this "recipient" is not in Plastiq's database. Plastiq has a tendency to code the first payment on a Visa to a new recipient as a cash advance. You don't want this to happen because cash advances don't count towards your minimum spend and carry fees. Before you make any payments on Plastiq, you should send a secure message to Chase asking they reduce your cash advance limit to the minimum amount allowed (@vanjust14 posted that it's $100 on the CIP). This way, if Plastiq or any other transaction does code as a cash advance, you're not hit too hard. Alternatively, you can establish a relationship with a new recipient by making a small payment using another card like an Amex or MasterCard, which don't code payments to a new recipient as a cash advance. For example, you can send $20 to your mortgage company, thereby establishing a relationship; then switch to the CIP for the balance of the payment.

Payments are usually sent by check (sometimes via electronic payment), which takes 7-10 business days to arrive to your recipient. When you're setting up your payment, you're given a calendar and can select the date you want the check to arrive. I always try to have a payment arrive a few days before it's due so I have time in case any issues come up. So it's too late to set up a payment for a mortgage due on February 1 (you would've had to schedule it by about the 20th). But you'll have some time to figure your way around Plastiq before your next mortgage payment is due.

If you plan to sign up for Plastiq, you may want to do so through a referral link because it'll give you $500 "fee free dollars" after you spend $500. This means after you spend your first $500, Plastiq will waive the 2.5% fee on the next $500 in payments ($12.50).

Wowza, a lot to pay attn to here. Ok, I am gonna print all this out and follow it when I do the first payment. Ha!

Our mortgage is with a small credit union. I have to mail a paper check...that’s how archaic it is. So hopefully it will go through.

Undercovertourist codes as travel for CSR, correct?

it does!

Small credit unions are kind of the last ones that still work. Them and Mr. Cooper. lol. If you need help setting up the payment, we're here to help! It also helps if there's nothing that says "mortgage" in your payment.

Hi everyone!

I have been stalking this page for a while since I joined and your posted has motivate me to put more forth an effort in churning. My goal is to fund an Hawaii trip for myself and my son (possible pay for my parents room but they will need to get their flights). I currently have freedom, freedom unlimited, and CSP. I am debating on getting rid of my freedom and reapplying for the bonus ( had the card for 3 years) and i am also debating on getting citi aadvantage platinum (chicago based). I currently working on my CSP reward and have around $500 between the freedom cards (still working on bonus category). So I am looking for any advice on how to make a dream an reality. I do have two trips plan for this year so i will be making use of the CSP card 2x pts.

If you are Chicago based, you should get a United card, not American. United has great flights, direct to Hawaii from ORD. There's a couple different bonuses on the United cards right now (via Chase).
