The Broadway show thread where we discuss all things Broadway

I saw the Band's Visit on Saturday. I absolutely LOVED It. It was a simple, simple story about those brief moments of connections that humans have...with a beautiful score that I am still humming. Highly recommended!!

You hooked me with the score that you're still humming. I'm intrigued.

On pins and needles waiting to see Mean Girls. We have tickets for late April, but I'm dying to see it some time this week now that I'm spending spring break at the dorm. I've entered the online lottery for every day this week, but I'm going to the in-person lotto today as well. I am so obsessed with this cast!

Saw Dear Evan Hasen again on Saturday, loved it just as much the 2nd time!

Seeing spongebob tomorrow... should be interesting.

Anyone local and have any thoughts on the 2018-2019 paper mill season?

I audibly groaned when I read it. Beauty and the Beast is the only one on this list that I'm even remotely excited to see. Logistically, it doesn't even make sense to present Holiday Inn. NYC had Holiday Inn a year ago-- why bring it back to the same audience?

This is the second year in a row I've been disappointed with PMP's line-up.

I agree on Holiday Inn, was rather disappointed in that pick.

I am interested in My Own British Invasion, I love the music so could be good.

I didn't even know Benny and Joon was a show. Loved the movie, your lack of enthusiasm must mean the show doesn't seem as great?

I think it’s a premiere, east coast at least. I will probably see that one, I haven’t seen the movie so I don’t know much about it.

I'm dying to see this. I've been obsessed with Katrina Lenk since I saw Indecent on PBS. Hoping I can make it to this show. Glad you loved it. I love smaller shows like that.

From descriptions alone, My Own British Invasion has the potential to be one of PMP's better premieres this season. The new shows they premiere are just so hit-or-miss that it's hard to get me excited about them anymore.

The musical is fairly new! It premiered in the West Coast to some pretty good reviews, this will be its premiere on the East Coast. I don't know a lot about it, and I'm sure the show itself will be great, I just haven't been thrilled with PMP's productions this past season so I'm a little skeptical for the season as a whole.

We live very close so do a subscription I’m debating between 3 or 4 shows I am skipping Holiday Inn and I can’t decide on Unmasked.... I am not a fan of Andrew Lloyd Webber, but it could be good....

I saw Holiday Inn on PBS. The songs
were glorious, of course, but the rest of the show was rather dull.
I'll stick with the 1942 film.

Same here! We had a 5-show subscription for three years in a row, this year we only did 3 (Honeymooners, Annie, and The Sting), and next year we'll probably only do 3 as well.

I haven't been thrilled with the Papermill choices lately, other than having Harry Connick in a show : ). We are probably going to see West Side Story at the Alogonquin in Manasquan and Newsies at the Axelrod. I live near the shore so those are both pretty close to me.

My daughter saw Dear Evan Hansen with the original cast, I'm dying to see it!!

WOULD LOVE to hear some feedback if anyone has seen Frozen in NY.
Thinking of trying to get tickets for December for a matinee. "DOUBLE THE PLEASURE",:cheer2: hopefully a great show and the beauty of Rockefeller Center ice skating rink and the Christmas tree! Christmas time in NY, no better time!:santa: THANKS in advance if anyone has been!:goodvibes

Sorry I have not been back to report on Frozen. We saw it 2 weeks ago today and the six of us all LOVED IT. The costumes, sets, performances, songs....all wonderful. The only thing we didn't like was that they did not have the trolls but had some sort of ancient mythical mountain people instead which were draped in moss like robes/loin cloths. We felt the leader of the mountain people, while having a great voice, was very sinister looking. I think I would much prefer they had some sort of actual rock trolls which I am sure they could do since they do it onboard DCL with their Frozen show. I think it would have been cool to see the trolls "tumbling" onto stage.

They recommend it for kids over six. There were some kids there under that age but at least in our area they were well behaved for an 8:00 pm show. Of course many were wearing their Elsa or Anna dresses.

We went to Carmine's for dinner which is right up the street from the theatre and we also parked in a garage right on 44th (used ParkWhiz.com). I reserved and paid for the spot in advance at the website and it made it so easy.

I'll post some pics of the merchandise.....I had to get the one Kristoff like jacket that was just so soft!!!

So the small tumbler you could buy with a drink (soft or alcoholic). They also had a larger one. The pin was given out if you bought something. The Elsa and Anna dolls were very cute!

Saw it a few weeks before it won the tony and again last week (Dear Evan Hansen). The whole cast is currently the original except for Ben Platt, his replacement is very good.

I agree papermill has been a bit off.... I’m trying to make my final call on 3 or 4 shows for next season. I actually enjoyed the shows this year even if they weren’t as good as they could be. Honeymooners was ok, I liked the political one more then I expected and I’m looking forward to the sting I mean Harey Connick jr alone makes the season worth it! I do think it would serve them better to do only 2 premiers, a holiday show, and 2 major hits. But I don’t work there so what do I know!

Saw Spongebob the other night, was actually really cute, we didn’t pay much for the tickets, so that was nice, but it’s totally just fun and kid friendly. It is no theatrical master piece but if your looking to spend bit more (ha) and have a fun family outing I think it’s totally enjoyable.

Kristolyn Lloyd from the original cast is done. Her final performance was March 11. She played Alana Beck. She was replaced by Phoenix Best.
