Disney Resorts to start charging parking fees....

Gotcha! I found them on listed on a page as good neighbor and didn't realize the difference until now.

It can be confusing. Since, especially now that so many are looking at offsite options that never did before, they opted to give those few hotels the perks, just try to keep it straight for those following along to make sure they get the right perks. I think you can even go on the Disney site, click Good Neighbor and it takes you to them ........... that gets really shady because you may not realize you are leaving Disney but not getting any perks.

As an FYI I love the Disney Springs resorts. I have stayed at Hilton, Buena Vista Palace, Wyndham, B Resort and Doubletree. Holiday Inn has some big fans but I haven't tried it yet. Best Western has been bought by Drury and is about to have a major renovation. Buena Vista did a reno and their pool is all new and really nice, best one down there. Doubletree and B Resort are my favorites and I check their rates every time I'm booking.

Does anyone remember- did the parking page used to say that parking at the parks is complementary for resort guests? Because if so...it no longer says that. Could that be a change up their sleeves?

Like I said I have both main parking page tabs (yesterday and now) open on my computer:

Lets pretend Im an A$$hole and tried to cheat the system.

I go in and say Im shopping (they might check if I say Im dining). Park for 4 nights. Then go to leave and they see Ive been parked for 4 nights. Just how exactly are they going to collect my money? How will they know exactly who I am. What if I use a prepaid debit card with basically no money on it at check in? If they catch me, are they going to grab my pocketbook and take my cash/CCs? I will simply say Ive stayed multiple times and did not know, and am now out of $$ to pay for parking.

Of course, I would never do this, but how would they really MAKE me pay if I didnt want to?
Oh they will find you.

Twice I’ve had a new credit card issued during a Disney stay (just normal cc replacement). My charges at the end of my stay were declined because the expiration date changed.

My complaint with Disney is that they NEVER notified me of the decline. They just turned it over to collections and trashed my credit. One of them I did not even know about until trying to buy a house.

I of course paid my legitimate charges ASAP. But I still question why I wasn’t contacted to let me know there had been a problem processing my bill.

I do check my bill to spot any bad charges, but I do not check that every charge I made was processed. My DH and I use the card many, many times a day.

It's looking suspiciously like they want to charge you to park your car at your hotel and then again to park at the parks. :( Wouldn't that be a perfect end to this perfectly blatant money grab. Over $40 a day for parking...sheesh.

I think they are doing both based on removing the part about free parking at parks for resort guests and having the resort parking fees listed on each hotels individual pages.

Yikes - if that's true Disney's got some big cojones....

"The move seems to be the company catching up to the fact that most hotels now charge for overnight parking. Universal Orlando Resort hotels and many on the popular International Drive tourism corridor charge for overnight parking. Universal hotel parking fees can be as much as $22 per night, based on the level of the resort.

Orlando area research conducted by Disney showed that 80 percent of the region's hotel properties already charge overnight parking fees.

Abe Pizam, dean of the Rosen College of Hospitality Management at the University of Central Florida. "This is not unique to theme parks or existing hotels and other enterprises — it's reasonable. From a customer perspective, it will be a small irritant, but don't expect it to prevent people from going," he told Orlando Business Journal.

He said guests may find the additional costs burdensome to their budgeting, but paying for services like parking is more commonplace than not, and customers should expect to be charged for overnight stays at Disney hotels when it already charges for parking at the theme parks."

Seems Disney has already built in the resort fee and parking fee into their rates...

Here is the Contemporary for the first week of May.....

Random area resorts which probably charge for parking, but also may offer free breakfast....

Based on the “current” version of Parking, resort parking is free.. see below

That would be a bad idea. I think most people would be ok if thet just removed fee parking at parks since resorts have free transportation to parks.

Charge one place or the other. Not both.

So are we going to have to pay for park and hotel parking? How do we find out? If I have to pay for both I might as well stay off site for cheaper and pay park parking.

If they choose to make resort guests pay for theme park parking either WITh resort parking or instead of resort parking I will not be a happy camper...even though our next trip will be with AP's so we would be exempt from theme park parking anyway.

It would appear that Disney is floating balloons to determine what will stay aloft and what will cause a big POP! I am willing to bet when the resort parking fee hit the national news along with the internet, Disney was inundated with complaints. Time to walk back and see if another revenue stream will draw less criticism. :confused3 Wouldn't be the first time. . .OR Disney IT is being its usual incompetent department.

My guess is that they are changing it from charging at the resorts to charging at the parks, but they have only updated the front page not the individual resorts pages so far

Maybe they will use the fees from resort and WDW parking to provide amazing bus service?

Who am I kidding, right? :rotfl2:

IF...IF they choose to make resort guests pay for theme park parking, they had better make it at least discounted and chargeable to your room on your magic band. >:(>:(>:(
