:offtopic: Question for those who do the Disney races: I am doing the Star Wars 10k. It starts at MK parking lot and ends at Epcot lot. For less stress is it worth paying a little more to stay at an MK or Epcot resort? Only 2 nights and decided to pay for it with Arrival Plus credit so not as worried about the higher cost. I mostly just want to make it as easy as possible for DH (spectator).

This last Marathon weekend went great, they had plenty of buses this time. I think they learned their lesson. ASMo has at least 5 charter buses waiting at 3:30am.

I stayed at ASMo for the Wine and Dine 10K in November and had no issues with transportation. I even left my room 15 minutes later than I wanted to and was still on the bus by 4:00, through bag check by 4:15, and checking my gear by 4:30. Which means I had an hour of hanging out. I noticed a lot of busses waiting to get people to the race, and never felt stressed about staying so far from MK.

I also woke up at 3:20 and was out the door by 3:45.

On the way back, there was a bus waiting and I was back in the room in about 15 minutes. No issues for me, so to answer your question, no, I wouldn't spend the extra money just to stay close to MK/Epcot.

The easiest way to get AA miles is the Barclay cards. Just pay the AF and get 60k miles. The other many of us do are the Citi AA but those do have a spend.
Informed delivery shows my business Barclaycard has arrived. I will buy a pack of gum, pay the $95 annual fee and collect my 50,000 AA miles. I also met the spend on my citi biz card by paying bills using Plastiq and making extra payments on my utility bills. DH's hilton no fee card spend ($1,000) will be met via payment of car insurance.

Where will your DH spectate? The race transportation, in my experience, has been pretty reliable (I've lost count of how many race weekends I've done!). Epcot won't be open by the time you get done, so you wouldn't be able to walk through to the IG and get back to your resort. You'd still have to take the transportation.

I am not too worried about getting myself there and back but do want it to be the least stressful option for him! This trip is driving me crazy...almost 60 days out and still haven’t decided how we are doing it. I was just going to go, then a couple trip, then all 5 of us, and now as of last night just a couple trip. After a weekend of bad colds and homework my poor girls said they would rather stay at Grandma’s then go to WDW again already! The 4 hour plane ride each way and a lot more homework is not tempting them. I know DH will want to be supportive of seeing me but I also know he will get super stressed out if it is a hassle to get there. We will have a car but I know that is difficult too. I guess if we stayed at one of the Epcot resorts he could just walk outside and watch?

On girls scout cookies my person takes Venmo. At 3 times on CIP yes I will take a case of Tagalongs please! :)

Another tagalong friend! I’ve consumed 2 boxes so far!

Well not sure if you've been like us this winter, but we had one "storm" in November and nothing until last week. We had 50 degrees at the new year even. But now, all of sudden winter has shown up and is making up for lost time. I was ready to accept no snow days and bring on spring.....But I guess I'll accept the one snow day last week, one (to possibly 3) this week, LOL.
I don't even think we had much of a storm at my house in November, this is by far the most we have had so far. My kids are adults, so doesn't affect me in any way, but it sure seems that schools have gotten really soft now days.
Yeah, we had almost 50 at the beginning of the year too, it was amazing!!!! This week, not so much. I am not pleased LOL.

He'll hop, but it takes some convincing.

We ALWAYS hop, I don't know if we ever spent one day in the same park all day. Our home is BWV, so we spend many many nights at Epcot. Oh wait, we went with friends for a long weekend once and they didn't have hoppers. DH was annoyed LOL.

My favorites!!!!!!!!!!! So I don't buy them!

Haha 4-6?! Our schools would be closed for DAYS if we got that much here :rotfl2:The threat of snow the night before is generally enough to call for a two hour delay.
My sister lives in Richmond now and rolls her eyes when they close school (it seems like it's 1 day per 1") since she lived in Minneapolis as a teenager in the 1970s and never had a snow day. I have given up being annoyed at the local school systems. They are unbelievably risk averse.

I've never done a race, but I read plenty of reports on here and the busses at some resorts (specifically Pop in 2 reports) looked HORRIBLE! Busses showing up late, annoyed guests, etc.

I find those that talk the most about bad busses are pushing it as late as they can go and have been from several resorts. As long as you are early enough you'll be fine. I also though this past w&d was better than 2016. Stay with what works for everything else not just the race.

Also, PSA for anyone else cheap like me, Quart sized baggies are much bigger than sandwich baggies :) I didn't realize until I bought the full qt size recently how much more you can pack into one. If we're traveling together it's not a big deal as two sandwich baggies is enough for our stuff but when I'd go by myself for work I avoided checking a bag so I had to cram it all into one. There may have been tape involved a time or two :rolleyes1

Sephora sells nice resuable qt bags or at least they did a few years ago near the registers. They are great and have held up really well cause they are thicker.

Well, I've been teaching now 20 years. I remember back in 1994 it was so cold they cancelled school during finals (it was my senior year). I had snowdays teaching but never a cold day till maybe 8-10 years ago. That was the first "polar vortex" we had. Since then we MAYBE get 1 cold day a year. I guess the temps this week will be as cold as it was back in 1994. -20 is the threshold most districts here pick, having to do with the time spent outside at a bus stop and frostbite. Today we're off as they were anticipating 6"+ to start at 8am....well it's 11:30 and there's not really any snow yet, parents are PISSED, LOL. But I don't think anyone will ***** about school off if we get the -30 to -40 they say is coming.

Oh and I'm in SE Michigan (Detroit area). I hear Chicago might get -60!

My DD is at college in upper Indiana, so between you and Chicago. They just got word they will cancel classes between 7:00 pm Tuesday and 1:00 pm Thursday. I had asked her earlier today if there was any talk of cancelling and she said all the professors so far had thought it unlikely.

Yep! Our snow was about 6-8 today. All local schools were called off. When my kids were school age, they never decided until that morning! Now, they make the call the night before. Win some, lose some. I’m expecting closures on Weds and Thursday here too. My sons job site will be closed Weds too. Half of my patients canceled today. I’m hoping U of M will close on Weds. I hate to think about the college kids walking in that wind chill!

I am in Minnesota. Snow days all over the state today (only didn't get as much snow as we thought - maybe 5-6 inches and was all plowed but still a bit slick on the roads). The next 3 days are going to be very cold here. (-50 + windchills). The threshold here for cancelling school is -25 Windchill. So, kids may have a few more days off of school. Then on Saturday it is supposed to be 38 degrees. It's going to feel like spring hit...

@amalone1013 - that would basically describe what my plan was before :)

This new crazy version of me is planning by the minute including meals, snacks, and yes...bathrooms hahaha

I... what? I've tried to time my bathroom breaks, but it doesn't work that way!

I'm also curious how you are able to plan down to the minute in a place as unpredictable as WDW. For example, we've arrived for ADRs usually 5 minutes early, and we never get our table at the same time. Or if you do QS, maybe the line is longer than you expect. Or the bus line is longer and you have to wait for a second bus.

This is fascinating! And exhausting.
