Stroller rules to be enforced

I understand but there are people saying that they want disney to charge for bringing in strollers. No strollers for anyone over age 4. No strollers larger than a $20 umbrella stroller. Only single strollers. It’s obvious many people don’t want children there. People find strollers an easy target because it’s easy to put limits on. If you put heavy bans on strollers then maybe less people will come. Disney does want children, that’s why they don’t charge families for young ones. They aren’t going to put difficult bans on strollers. There are still a ton of strollers allowed. This is mostly a ban on wagons. My thought is Disney thought wagons were difficult to search for security, too many items were being brought in inside the wagons. I don’t think it was the size necessarily.

Yeah, that's quite a stretch to say because people don't want extra-large strollers means they don't want children there at all.

I think you are being too sensitive and reading too much into this.

Just for fun (ha..) I went on YouTube and picked a year -- 1992 -- searched for "Magic Kingdom 1992" and looked at some home movies of the crowds and pathways, just to compare the volume/amount, and sizes, of strollers in the parks, and strollers parked by rides and restaurants... it was still very very crowded, but, very very different. What's changed between then and now...? I dunno. Just an observation. I personally would have preferred the option of a more minimalistic, compact stroller when my kids were born but at the time it was difficult to even find anything I really liked. So I was happy when I was able to kick them to the curb and use the single umbrella only.

I am very curious as to how Disney will be enforcing this rule? Will cast members be standing out there with tape measurers measuring everyone’s strollers that appear like they might be too big??

I’m saying people find the parks too crowded so if they target strollers they can stop some families from coming and reduce crowds.

I respect your opinion but a day at a Disney park is so different from a day in "normal life" it is hard to say because you kid doesn't need one in normal life it is selfish parenting to want one for them in Disney. It is soooo much more walking, it is typically way hotter/more humid than our "real life" coming from the North East and emotions are so different with all the excitement and schedules are different, etc. Just so many variables that are different

I think it is up to each parent to decide what works best for their family - but would be great if everyone (whether you have a stroller or not) tried to be as considerate as possible of other guests. If you have a stroller, be aware of the space you are taking up and watch even more as you are walking if people stop in front of you, etc.

Then you need to pace yourself. I don't see anything in your post that makes a good argument for why your 7-year-old needs a stroller.

This kind of post whenever the topic of strollers comes up is just all-too-familiar. But throwing in that "selfish" really bumps it up a notch. :stir:

And putting kids aged 7 and up in strollers isn't selfish?

Man the stroller haters have come out of the woodwork! So many opinions about how others should raise their children!!!

I have an opinion when it affects other guests in the park, adults and kids alike. If you're putting your kids aged 7 and up in strollers and blocking people's view of the fireworks by putting your kids on your shoulders, then yeah, I'm going to have an opinion. Being a parent doesn't mean you get to be rude to everyone else around you for sake for your child's enjoyment.

obviously everyone should decide for themselves what is best for them and for their vacation ... some people love to slow down, for some people that stresses them out and they are better go, go, going (if I don't have a schedule for our activities it stresses me out as I am on vacation to do things)

We generally stay off site and do take breaks some days - particularly if we are starting early and want to be there for the evening entertainment ... but it is a least a few hour commitment to take a break

And when our kids were really young and would take naps in the stroller, that is when we would take time to do things we wanted to do - maybe trying food or a drink we wanted. Now with multiple kids we would use that time for one parent to stay with the sleeping kid while another took the older kid(s) off to do something they wanted to that maybe the youngest wasn't tall enough for.

There were a lot of positives to doing that - if that makes us selfish in your eyes, than I guess we are selfish - but it is a vacation for everyone in the family (though I will say we always used a regular stroller that would lie back - not a wagon/wagon stroller so can't speak to how well those work or don't)

If your kids are young, they should absolutely be in the stroller. And I applaud you for taking breaks on any day, that's smart. What I'm talking about is kids aged 7 and up.

Perhaps people who hate strollers so much shouldn't go to Disney. It's poor, selfish planning going to a place that caters to kids and expect to not see strollers.

Where exactly did I say that no strollers should be allowed?

Don't worry, no one has to justify anything to you.

Did you read anything I wrote? All the angry replies don't make a single argument as to why kids aged 7 and up should have a stroller.

No, you said "it's obvious many people don't want children there".

That's not the case.

Outside of the few hysterical people I saw on the Keenz Facebook page (oh that was good reading) - nobody is cancelling a trip to Disney due to a stroller.

So if they did this for crowd control, they can mark this in the failure column.

What your opinion is on what age someone puts a child in a stroller doesn’t matter to another parent. Stay out of their business

Goodness, I don't think that is the situation at all. Disney has for years had a policy of excluding wagons. I believe they decided to no longer allow stroller wagons to be consistent.
Most strollers will be allowed, with the exceptions being the super extra-large ones.

If only people could be so wise.....

I love how people know the perfect age that a child should or should not be in a stroller. Too bad there is no market for such a skill. Seems so valuable......

I mean....there are guidelines set by the manufacturers and by professionals for when children should no longer use strollers. It's not like people are just picking a random age out of a hat for when it's no longer acceptable.

Parents can absolutely decide what is right for their children but you shouldn't be surprised if you are judged for it. My nephew is 5 and I cannot imagine him wanting to sit in a stroller.

No one is surprised by the judging, parents are used to getting judged by other parents for the smallest things. It's a never ending cycle.

As parents, we should support each other, rather than tearing each other down. Parenting is hard enough already, but its maddening the way other parents judge each other.

Care to share your wise research?

Most of what I've seen (we've had about 4 or 5 different strollers throughout the years) has weight limitations. No specific ages.....

Doubling and tripling down, I see! Anyway, I don't even know where you'd even begin in constructing the argument that putting a 7-year-old in a stroller is selfish, of all words.

It's not up to anyone here to convince you that X age is appropriate for stroller use, just like it's not up to you to make the counter-argument. Disney allows certain types strollers within certain size guidelines, and that's really as far as anyone can tell anyone else what they "should" do with their kids and strollers.

Yeah, but someone has a 3rd cousin who likes to walk alot and is only 14 months old........

Hard to argue with, our judgment is deserved :)

Indeed. A little kindness and goes a long way. :flower3:

Well according to a quick Google search the American Academy of Pediatrics says a child should be transitioning out of a stroller by 3 years old.

And yes, there are weight limits set by the manufacturer and most kids will follow those weight limits according to their age. According to the Keenz website their wagons hold 55 lbs per seat. The city mini stroller has a weight limit of 50 lbs.

Seriously, my son is in kindergarten and looks very old for his age. Most people guess he is 8. He’s lean and very active. I still have him sit in his sisters stroller sometimes to help him rest so we all stay happy. So now I know people stare and judge us. A woman on this board in another thread said I must be one of those people that has her family wear matching clothes if I allow him in a stroller. Yeah, thanks lady.

Yeah no I wouldn't advocate for charging for all strollers. But I don't think many people can say that umbrella/canopy strollers back in the day weren't super duper easy to navigate and were much less expensive than many modern strollers and there have def. been comments towards feeling jilted because one invested in a stroller and now it's not allowed.

I don't care what you bring in the park as long as it's within the size limitations but I can understand the continued comment towards umbrella strollers.

And I would disagree on the "not wanting children" there. Has anyone argued that Disney doesn't want children there? I think people have commented about being hit with strollers (and ecvs were mentioned), or aggressive stroller users but that's not saying "Disney shouldn't have children".

Yes it was the size. Why in the world would they bother with stating they will be reducing the size allowed and that there will be more enforcement if this was just about stroller wagons. Seems like a lot more work for Disney if their goal was to only touch on the Keenz. They could have more easily updated their rules and stated no stroller wagons. They went a step further and reduced the size of the strollers even allowed. Everyone already is on the same page that the Keenz can be narrower than other strollers. It can be both about size and the Keenz.

I have a first grader that is 99th percentile in height, he turned 6 on our trip last year and yes he rode in a stroller. He tires a lot easily than his brother does. I have ZERO issues letting him to sit in the stroller for a little bit if he wants to. im with you on that.

If i want to spend the money on a stroller so it can make his day, and therefore our day a little easier, then that's my business.
