This comment makes me feel old!!! My oldest card is the Chase Disney from 1997 and I just received a notification that they were going to cancel it since I hadn't been spending on it. Called and they were able to reinstate, so this can be your reminder to put $$ on those sock drawered cards! I would hate to lose those 22 years of credit history.
My poor old Discover...almost 20 years old and locked away all the time! I feel bad for it...almost..: 🤣

@snugglebug @disneybirds - Thanks for the info!

If we get an upgrade, great, but I am not expecting anything. We are at HHV for half the trip to do and see stuff on that side of the Island (and save DVC points/burn Hilton points), so we won;t be hanging around the room/resort all that much. When we get to Aulani I think we will slow it down and do more resort-time.

This is exactly what we did. Our last 4 days out of a 12 day trip were spent at Aulani. We literally didn't leave the resort for the first 2 days. You are making me want to plan another trip there, especially since we will be empty nesters in 6 months. Enjoy!

My oldest opened card is from April of 93, JC Penney. I had cards before that, but they are all closed.
The Chase Disney Visa didn't come out until 2003 :-).

My oldest is from 1997 as well. That was so long ago lol It's a Navy Federal card that I have no plans to close.

I believe Discover still reports business cards to your personal report so either Discover would up his count.

If that was the only consideration for the business card, the it Miles card has the same earnings with the double first year plus a $100 statement credit through some support links. (Some still show a $50 credit)

But if you can max out the 5% categories the regular IT card is probably still better.
App'd for IT. They wanted proof of address so I uploaded bank statement and now we wait. I guess I could try to get him to call in and get the process rolling, but I try not to ask too much of him lol He probably would if I asked him though.

Hawaii is my empty nest plan! Just waiting to see when and where everyone is leaving me. But I am hoping sometime in September to go.

@wendow I’m guessing you have to enroll the cards in Shop with points as well? I did it for both cards. Right now it’s saying to refresh to see point balances and then says it’s unavailable. Maybe because I just added the cards so it’ll take a little bit
Yes, you do need to enroll. Mine was doing that earlier today so I deleted the card and re added it. Points are showing now and promo is back 😊

I see the points showing now. The promo is still showing as not eligible but I’ll wait a few days

You’re going to want to do a fair amount of reading before jumping into any cards. Normally I’d send you an invite to our DISchurners Reddit group but you need to have made 10 comments to PM on the DIS. If you’d like to join you’d need to tell me your Reddit name or join at Reddit.com.
I was reading the stickies but besides there where should I start reading. There is a lot of informtaion on here, so Im not sure where to really begin. Thxs!

Yeah, that won't work for dd lol

On United's site, I saw the nonstop from Newark (on Austrian, I believe) and most days around the time she'd go it's 30K for economy. Cash prices are INSANE! I didn't have time nor energy (still ) to check PHL and the DC airports, so I'lll do that today. She says that she should know dates in 1-2 weeks :bored:

Just checked---PHL flights have 2 stops and IAD flights have 1 stop, all with 30K economy availability most days. She's never transited Europe alone before, so my first choice will be the nonstops from EWR. Second choice will be whatever has at least 2 hours transit time. I can talk her through Frankfurt if needed.
Frankfurt isn't bad to transfer in. I seem to remember it was big but everything was well marked

Hello,
Longtime lurker, first time poster. I've learned a lot on this board over the past few years, but never got around to asking anything until now.

I dragged my feet on the SW 75,000 deal, but now that the deadline is looming, I decided I want to try for the Companion Pass this year. In the past I had both SW Premier (opened January 2016) and SW Plus (opened April 2016.) I closed the Plus in 2018, but just closed the Premier today.

Am I eligible for the bonus if I apply for the new one this weekend, or did I need more time between closing the old and opening the new? In the past two years, I have opened a Chase Hyatt 12/18 and Delta Amex in 4/18, but that one does not always show up as a hard pull on my credit reports (but either way, safely below 5/24.) Thanks!

You are OK with the bonus. Some people worry about them reinstating a soon closed card instead of opening a new one, but I think you are OK there too but If you want to make absolute certain you can go for the Priority. I think that is the best one out of the 3 anyway. Just want to make sure you read the posts about the new restrictions to the companion pass since you last got it. The Fireside Chat reposted a few pages back is good to read before you begin if you haven't.

My Navy Federal is from 1994. I had credit cards with my ex prior to my divorce but all that is long gone, lol. No plans to close my NFCU. Largest amount of credit and I think the interest rate is around 9%.
I can remember when it was 7 something per cent and I got upset with them when they upped it across the board - there is a 1% reward on it. Amex did the same - upped to 13% from 9 or 10. They hit everybody - started getting greedy. Either that or they had to start covering losses. Now with almost a perfect credit score - it waffles by a point or few - I see huge numbers and I'll never pay the rate. Actually, NFCU has a 7.49 rate but it has no rewards.

Our reddit group (which I hinted at in my last post) would provide you access to our news thread which would let you see what the major recent stories have been. You're also going to want to familiarize yourself with the Chase 5/24 rule which DoC seems to explain well IMO:

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/chase-524-rule-explained-detail-need-know/
A lot of my fireside chats (which are highlighted in the news thread) give some food for thought on different strategies.

And most of all you'll probably want to ask questions before pulling the trigger on any cards. There's a lot of little rules and nuances to the game so you want to start in the right place. I notice you mentioned you read the stickies but I haven't seen a comment from you yet giving us your rundown (from the how to ask for advice sticky) :D
