Cases rising or dropping by you?

Yeah, it's pretty much the same story as my post yesterday. The number I saw posted was 9,785 -- https://www.local10.com/news/local/...-covid-19-cases-deaths-latest-totals-updated/

New case numbers are declining very modestly, but not enough to really call it a trend. Positivity is down slightly, but again nothing to get excited about.

+/- 700 cases is about normal for Orange County, but their case numbers bounce all over the place because the numbers are smallish. Still no trend; still no obvious WDW surge...but it's still early.
I don't think a surge related to visitors at the park will ever be tracked or reported. This,to me is what represents the greatest problem, tourists coming and going.
I know many people who are anti tracker app.
Personally I don’t care as I have nothing to hide and I’m willing to help my fellow citizens.
I don’t get the outrage of the government knowing I went to the grocery store on Tuesday evening.
They can find that out other ways too.
Exactly. Our phones know where we are and what we talking about IRL anyway....Just imagine, tracker apps are used for everyone with a phone, what would that show about the spread pattern of Covid with all this traveling....:scared:

Florida's statewide results are pretty much as expected -- 10,000 new cases, positivity rate 12%. Both of those numbers are within the range we've been in for a while.

We reached a new high in deaths reported in a single day at 173. That too was expected because our cases have been increasing and deaths lag somewhat behind new cases.

The news story below is from Miami, so the local numbers shown are South Florida numbers. I'll take a look at Orange County numbers a little later.

https://www.local10.com/news/local/...da-covid-19-cases-new-deaths-record-reported/

And a 9 year old girl lost her life. 38 of the 173 deaths were in Orange.

Central Florida added 1,477 cases for a total of 63,499: 554 new cases were reported in Orange for 25,254; 236 in Polk for 10,545; 157 in Osceola for 6,844; 146 in Volusia for 5,803; 103 in Seminole for 5,736; 97 in Brevard for 4,658; 163 in Lake for 3,757; and 21 in Sumter for 902. (See details on all Central Florida cases here).

Thanks.

These numbers are getting increasingly difficult to keep track of, because labs are overwhelmed. Tests that formerly took 2 days are now taking a week; other sites which formerly took 7 days are now taking more than two weeks.

It's going to be impossible to correlate the test results with any local events like WDW reopening, because you don't know if today's reports are 2 days old or 2 weeks old.

The delays are a real problem for the public in trying to make sense of the numbers and for people to take action and isolate/do contract tracing. The epidemiologists would still be able to make use of the information because they should have enough information to analyse positives bases on other metrics like date of first symptoms or date of testing. Faster processing would be better, but they should be able to look for patterns retrospectively.

You live in Florida, so you know that it's "good for business" for us (and tourists) not to know. It would be "bad for business" if they actually tracked this stuff. They've actually had a couple of conventions here in Orlando in the last month.

Again our state leader said the problem with the numbers is that the labs are lying to him. He called them the "testing industrial complex," and he also suggested (refuted by the CDC) that the CDC is counting anyone who dies and tests positive as a COVID death. He's made a mess of this.

I don't pay much attention to what any of the politicians say. Both teams spin things to make themselves look as good as possible, and both teams lie through their teeth. No difference between them at all.

I'm just talking about lab results from people I know and stories from local media who I know to be trustworthy who are getting their info directly from the labs.

And, in the governor's defense (sorta), there were some labs who were reporting only positive results -- we even discussed it here. There were a number of labs reporting 100% positive results, which is crazy. So that DID distort the positivity numbers a little. I think they were mostly small labs, with not enough cases to skew the results very much.

Looks like California is about to go back into total stay at home. https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article244438372.html
I don’t think one official wanting it means it’s going to happen. I could see certain areas (and on another thread I mentioned the City of Los Angeles may), but I don’t think a state wide order would work right now. I could be wrong, but everything I’ve read is Newsom will work on a “dimmer switch”, closing certain sectors in certain counties, but won’t do another SIP.

I think the numbers leave us NO choice but to lock down again. Too many cases, more than when we locked down before.
@disnygrl @DisneyJamieCA
It may happen down the road, but I disagree it’s imminent. I think Newsom will continue with targeted roll backs in certain counties. The numbers in CA are all over the place and there are plenty of counties who are doing ok or who are getting a handle on it and they can’t all be “punished” for the numbers in LA County. This is a very fine line that’s being walked now and it’s not as simple as the first time around.

ETA: And again this is one person’s opinion. Except for the mayor of Los Angeles, I haven’t heard even the faintest rumblings from anybody in charge about a full SIP. And if this were possible, why is the state allowing schools to petition to reopen in person? That would be a total no-go.

But your opinion, which may or may not end up being true (no one knows this very second) is that "is about to go back into total stay at home" that's what people were talking about. If everyone listed what one politician said they wanted as what is/will happen it'd be an endless list lol.

I think the posters were just trying to say a shelter in place may be something that is on the table in CA but nothing has been announced that it will happen on this day or that day or that it will be the whole state.. I don't disagree it's possible just that I understand what the posters were reacting to in your wording.

Thanks.

On another board, the FL death data "occurred" vs "recorded" has reached peak insanity. But the good news is that, it revealed that you can actually see what day people actually died on one of the FL Dept of Health pages. I assume the same tables exist for testing, but I don't have those direct links. So for those entities in which it truly matters, the State, Mayors, Disney, Universal, they can get the information they need to make appropriate decisions. The rest of us, are a little more in the dark if we don't want to all become data scientists. What they do with the info is another matter.

A good chuck of the deaths take 7-14 days to record, to get a good picture of what really happened, on a particular day.

As a fellow Floridian, I've been following your posts, since this whole thing started. You definitely started out defending everything the governor did (or didn't) do. You moved onto, "This isn't about politics. We're in this together & need to support him." Now, you don't pay any attention to politicians. It's all about the numbers. There must be some reason you no longer feel comfortable defending him here the way you were & have completely changed your tune over the past few months.

You're trying to make something political which is not political. I understand, and have a good idea why, but I'm not going there.

In the beginning it was very obvious that it was political for you. You were doing some amazing mental gymnastics trying to defend him. Eventually, you've backed down from that. Do you really think people forget what they read that quickly? As for me, I couldn't care less what political party they belong to as long as they do their job. I'll worry about politics, when it's election time. There are bigger things to worry about now.

ETA: From what I've seen on the news, it appears Miami's mayor has done all he can in this difficult situation. I think Miami/Dade would be better off, if he were their mayor. This post prompted me to look up his political party. I see he and De Santis belong to the same party.

Anyone who is basing their views solely on politics isn't seeing the bigger picture.

I don't think the wording matters, the Governor really isn't going to have any other options. But I suspect we will know in days.

Why would the state allow exemptions to allow in person learning in “watch” counties then if they know they’re going to shut down things in days? Or allowing salons to open back up outdoors? Both of those happened this week. We obviously disagree, but I really don’t think he’ll shut down the entire state when only certain areas are really in trouble. I can see certain counties having even further roll backs.
