Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

As much as we’d all love to get back to the parks THIS is the real reason they need to re-open. The full economic effects have yet to be seen and the longer this goes on the worse they will be
Totally agree. My heart goes out to all the small businesses suffering and to all of their employees. I know it has been said here on the Dis, but walking down Harbor and being in the general DLR area right now is so sad with everything closed. I sure hope all the small businesses can make it.

Sorry to see that. I saw a PP poster point out that in July that Parks were set to open before the hotels. If we are heading toward an opening, that could be a consideration again.

I was able to get a November add-on day just this morning for 1BR. I had it waitlisted for a long time, but was just sitting there (which is frustrating). There were a couple other days in November this morning. I think inventory is changing often, even intra-day as people's plans make all these twists and turns. It's a part time job to keep checking.

oh I will keep checking. I have 11/18-11/20 booked too (since last December originally hoping that would be the moonlight magic dates) and would love to add the 17th on as well. I have picked up random dates a number of times and I know availability is always changing.

My predicition...

Guidelines from Newsom this afternoon, Disney announces tonight that parks open October 4 since they just sent out emails yesterday cancelling through October 3. This gives cast members two full weeks to get back and trained.

I would also stand by my previously posted date of October 16 too. Orange County should move up another tier on Tuesday and then another one a few weeks later, right before the park opens.

OC will not be eligible to move up a tier next week.

At the earliest, it would have been Sept 29, but that would require us to meet the metrics THIS week and we have not. Our cases per 100k is still solidly in Red territory. Our first day under 5 per 100k was 9/14. We have to meet the new metrics for 2 consecutive weeks BEFORE moving to Orange.

So, if we start meeting the metrics for Orange NEXT WEEK, and the week after, we are talking about Oct 6 move to Orange.

Sorry this has probably been asked a million times already. Disneyland is not extending the expiration date of existing tickets, right? I have unused parkhopper tickets that are supposed to expire January 2021. What happens if I can't get to the parks by then (assuming they open soon)? If I understand correctly, I think I can exchange them for new tickets at the ticket booth? I wonder how this would work with the reservation system. Like, if I try to make a reservation for February, but my tickets expired in January, will it work? Does the system even know they're expired?

My understanding is they are worth the dollar value you paid for them and that doesn’t expire.

The issue would then be if prices go up and then you would be liable for the delta.

With that said, there is no way they would get away with letting those tickets expire on the pre-covid date. (Likewise with dvc points, I just don’t see it.)

I guess I missed it, but I have to assume that there is speculation that the parks opening is dependent on OC being in the Orange category - I don't see why. Everything that WDW is doing is consistent with activities allowed in the Red category (25% available seating in theaters for example - that's a Red requirement).

Yeah, I think some people are just thinking that Orange means something for theme park reopening. I don't think so, but was just correcting the poster I quoted.

My spirit animal today.

Getting nervous because if they were just waiting for the markets to close it should have been out by now. If they announce it later in the day then it's definitely a "bury the bad news" approach. Any later than 4pm and I hope they hold off entirely until Monday.

Random bit of speculation, probably better in one of the DVC threads, but ... Hawaii will be allowing visitors to come to the islands without a quarantine with a negative test on October 15. Totally possible that Aulani may open then. Wonder if Disney might be hoping to open the last two resorts at the same time?

Disneyland is not going to announce anything before guidelines are released from the state and I don't think the state has any care whether the markets are closed. I also havent ever seen an update this late in the day from Newsom

I don’t think one will impact the other. Also I wouldn’t be surprised if they push back the Hawaii date.

They barely do *weekday* updates ;-).
Other than the daily numbers there hasn’t been much to update. My county has been doing weekly updates/virtual press conferences since April. They just scaled them back to biweekly. You can only say the same things for so long. Numbers are this. Wear a mask, keep your distance, avoid gatherings.
