News Round Up 2020

I'm surprised so many love the idea of streaming everything at home. Doesn't anyone like going out anymore. I am talking before Covid. Its not really that expensive to go out to a movie. At least here Costco sells movie tickets that come with pop and popcorn for $25.

Yeah we get it included as well, and have enjoyed it up to now. But with this news I would be ok paying for it if I had to to be able to watch first run movies right away. This is awesome news! Although, their slate of movies doesn’t really excite me too much. I would guess other studios will quickly follow suit in the coming weeks.
I'm interested in Dune..not sure if I could get my husband to go to Suicide Squad (I'm in the minority as I liked or at least didn't hate the first one), Mortal Kombat don't laugh but it brings up childhood memories sooo we'll see on that one how it ends up looking like, Matrix 4 well I like Keanu Reeves but not sure how well that franchise has aged, so there are at least some for me. Now...2022 has more the super hero and Fantastic Beasts so I think that's something to watch for even as WB stated it was a temporary adjustment.

This is pretty enormous news for the industry. A full year of major releases means people will expect it going forward. They’re releasing 20 good sized movies this way.

Actually, looking at that slate, it's not exactly the strongest. I think WB wants them to be big, but I see a lit of turkeys in there. The last Godzilla didn't perform too well, and I don't think anyone much cares about The Matrix or even Dune (always been a hard sell). Suicide Squad may have some good will due to James Gunn, but the last one was so, so bad. I don't see a big turn-out for Space Jam or Tom & Jerry either. WB is not on it's game, though we'll see if Disney or Universal follow suit - now that would pull some BIG movies!

not really - and cost is very high for us as we either need 5 tickets or pay a babysitter ... so including popcorn/drinks it usually is ~$100 for us to go out. We'll go once or twice a year but just for special occasions or as infrequent "date night"

plust the closest decent theater is like 30mins away and the Alamo is like 40mins (which is where we go for date night)

By good sized, I really just meant large budget or notable franchise attachment. Not necessarily all highly successful. I expected several of those to struggle at the box office.

Two that intrigued me the most are Matrix 4 and In the Heights (though the later I am fine to see at home)

Do your theaters not run deals? We have $5 Tuesday’s. I suppose my theaters are all a lot closer tho.

I absolutely love the theater experience.

Never liked the theater. Dealt with it as a necessary evil when a movie came out that I absolutely wanted or needed to see, but never enjoyed it. We would only see maybe 1 or 2 movies a year. Would usually leave with a headache. Closest theaters to me were old with cloth seats (who knows what has seeped into them over the decade or so they’ve been there). Would much rather go to dinner and a few stores, or just drive an hour and go to WDW or DS for an evening out.

Oh yeah - I'm sure the budgets are high. I think WB is dreaming though if they are expecting a lot of big hits. This won't hurt the theaters as much if they were going to be flops anyway. I swear, what is going on at WB lately?

Hey look, we can agree on something!
After not being able to do much traveling this year and being stuck home for most of it, I just can't see how any one loves staying home so much. As soon as that vaccine is available I will get it so I can start traveling again. Florida is first on my list for the 2 new coaster additions coming.

I would far rather watch a movie at home than go to a theatre. Cheaper, more convenient, don't have to worry about people annoying me, can pause the movie if needed, etc. We used to go more often when our daughter was younger but now it's probably been a few years since we've gone to a theatre.
