I got my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine today. I had Covid in late June and I’m still not fully recovered. If you’ve done any reading about Long Haulers, I am one of those. I was in perfectly good health before Covid, and I’m in my early 40’s. I’ve been reading reports that about 30-40% of Long Haulers have their symptoms resolve after their second dose of the shot, and nobody understands why. But I sure hope that is my experience. So far my arm is just sore, but no worse than when I get a flu shot.
One of my best friends is a long hauler and hopes the same. She's in a state where she won't be eligible for a while yet, unfortunately. I hope you see improvement!!

DH and I got our 1st pfizer dose yesterday. Happy to be able to before our HI trip (18 days!).

I have no idea which one I am getting. My appt is Sunday, I kinda wish I would have done Saturday, in case I have issues. Oh well, just happy to have it!

I'm in my mid 40's and my mom is almost 70. She got Moderna and I got Pfiser, both of us just had sore arms. I think you'll be fine but listen to your body and rest if you need to.

I'm so sorry to hear about your on-going symptoms. I was watching the news this morning about some of the long-haulers and that their were people who got the vaccine and it "reset" them so to speak. I hope that it does this for you. Having long term side effects was what was most fearful to me for all of this. Shortness of breath was the one that I was most fearful about. I love to walk and hike I would hate to be unable to do these activities. Let us know how you do!

In May of 2019 we stayed a week at Residence Inn Dupont Circle using a 7 night certificate. We did have our car but only used it to drive to Mt. Vernon and the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (100% recommend!). Otherwise we used our feet or the metro (we did take a taxi to the Washington National Cathedral). We live on a farm in the middle of nowhere so walking down city streets is still a treat to our boys (now 14 & 12- but 12 & 10 during this trip). The Residence Inn was definitely nothing fancy but it had a small kitchen which we mainly used for the fridge. There were many food options both on our block and within a block or two of the hotel; the metro station was very close. On Saturdays there is a farmers market also very close. We really enjoyed our stay. I am sure there are plenty of better options, but that one worked for us well.
We also stayed at this Residence Inn 2 years ago. It's a city neighborhood area, lots of restaurants and a CVS if you need anything. Easy metro access. We even had a favorite ice cream shop we went to every night! :-) We live semi-rural, so the metro was a big treat for my kids (5 & 8 then).

Hmm. Check car rental prices first. I've heard a couple folks mention $1k per day.
If that's true for you, I'd consider flying into Key West and lodging within walking distance of all the action (or just buying a junker and maybe donating it?)
Good point. It is definitely more to fly into Key West and rent a car. It wasn't bad from Miami. I can't believe some of the prices folks are quoting on here for a car!

My son says he doesn't want to go back because of bullying. He's enjoying zero interaction with other kids. ☹ Either the bullying was worse than I thought or he's milking it, and I'm not quite sure which.

I have heard versions of this from so many friends who have kids choosing to continue through zoom for one reason or another. It tends to be because they are doing so much better without the social interaction they were getting in school. I know more kids who don't want to go back than those who do, albeit it's a limited sample size. I think this pandemic is shining a light on many issues in our society and I think this is another one of them. I'm sorry your son feels bullied - schools should be a safe place for kids and I know that they aren't in many cases. :(

DH and I got the Pfizer vaccine by chance today. First time calling around to have our names added to “no waste” lists, and third place I called said they had two vaccines available if we could get there soon, so within 30 minutes we were filling out paperwork and getting jabbed. Anyone that’s gotten a dose this way, did you have trouble getting your second? Walgreens says I can schedule the next dose by either calling or online, but I’m a little pessimistic cuz I read a news article about people not being able to get their second shot from Walgreens.

That’s crazy. Why would they do it that way when they know it’s supposed to be 2 doses. I went to Giant and they immediately scheduled us for 4 weeks later and the same time as our 1st dose. Of course, poor DS won’t be happy since our appts are 6:30 and 7:00 am so he will need to get up early and go with us since he has school on-site that day and we won’t make it trying to get home and then go to school.

My brother and his partner got their shots this way and he was able to schedule their second shot easily online. Just had to do it a few days before it was due to be done though.

Those of you looking at/booking cruises... are the cruise companies confident they'll be sailing again by the time of your planned trips?

I was able to activate the offer for my Disney card but the promo is from 1/1/2021 to 3/31/2021. Strange.
Did you try using the individual cobrand links instead of the catch all link? The catch all link gave me the grocery promo expiring 3/31, but I when I tried the Disney link (listed farther down on the DoC page) I was able to activate the promo. Unfortunately, the IHG links didn't work for me.

I think anyone confident of anything at this point is an absolute fool.

I suspect and hope vaccines will be required. I think by next summer international travel and cruising should be possible.

It looks like RCCL is going to start testing the waters with cruises starting in June from Bermuda and Nassau with vaccines required and negative tests for children too young to receive the vaccine. It will be interesting to see how they go and how well they sell since getting to and from those islands isn’t as convenient as going to FL and then you still have the need for a negative test result for re-entry to the US.

Scrolling through FB and had to chuckle at the new race sponsor for martinsville.
Congrats! DS’s school is going back full-time beginning 4/19 to close out the year and the seniors are even having their prom! So glad life is returning to some normalcy although that means more running around for me but more opportunities to MS since I’ll be out.

Teacher here...In Michigan at that. Where we are STILL grounded in SOOOOOO many aspects. In Jan our governor said we needed to get back to school. So starting 1/25 I started 4 days in the classroom, 1 day (Friday) fully remote. I have to do both in person and online at the same time as I'm the only Engineering/Architecture teacher. We did A/B hybrid days for the students. They were supposed to work asycnh at home (I know they didn't). I had classes with 1 student in person. 54% of our students chose to stay online.

Then they decided that wasn't enough and tied our funding to AT LEAST 20 hours in person. So starting THIS WEEK....THE WEEK BEFORE SPRING BREAK, we moved to 4 days a week in person (all students everyday) and Friday still remote. We (teachers) were upset they didn't allow us to make this switch AFTER spring break. My own kids have been 1/2 in person since October. I get emails daily about positive tests. Neither have had to quarantine (I'm not sure how). Right now where I teach, we had 4 positive students and 1 positive staff yesterday alone! Just my HS. Where again, we have maybe 600 of our students.

So I love that all these states that are way more open than MI is, has still had students remote, but our governor threw us all back into the schools. She's actually keeping all other jobs remote until probably May/June at the earliest. We have an 11pm curfew. 50% at restaurants, etc. And she's forcing kids playing sports to wear masks while they play AND now get tested weekly! She's trying to blame the increase in kids (I think it's up like 500%) on sports, and NOT the fact we're in school. My kids have played sports on and off since summer (she fully shut them down for a bit in Nov-Jan, but my son's team skated illegally or just went to Ohio). Many kids have played sports throughout all of this. The change is almost all schools are "fully" in person now.

I'm the most NON-political person in the WORLD! But our governor has made NO sense! She wouldn't allow boating last spring. Didn't allow haircuts till nearly JULY. She allowed outdoor dining in the winter which just had people huddled together around space heaters or in igloos where condensation dropped all over you and your food. She allowed gyms to be open, but sports had to be closed. Schools were forced open before she allowed restaurants to open indoors.

And what NO ONE wants to admit is that all this CHANGE is what is affecting the kids more than anything! Just when they get into a routine w/ school, hey....let's change it again! Not sure why everyone seems to think 9 weeks is going to make THAT much impact on the school year. Just finish the year out and start fresh in September. BTW, going back in MI isn't affording proms or graduations, etc. We're still too locked down for any of that!

Okay rant over, LOL.

Did DCL say anything about vaccines being required when you booked? Maybe the DCL client base will be ok if it is required after the fact, if not?
