Covid Creativity

I'm too "precise, balanced" Ok lets face it, "anal" to be able to do the free motion. I really wish I could. Maybe someday I'll loosen up and will be able to give it another try.

You described me at my first free hand motion class! :rotfl:I love the look but really struggled with it. I also discovered it would probably help me more if I could draw, even a little bit. I haven't had the time to get back to it, but will one day.

I was thinking of try this to make a Mickey T -shirt.
What do yah think?

That is nice! Your post reminded me of a shirt I made for my son using a template and bleach. This was back in 2013. I found the instructions here on DIS. I did a wolf on the front and wolf prints going up the back. Here's a couple of photos. This shows the front of the shirt the best, but he wasn't too happy at my wanting yet *another* photo. :)

I also used a red shirt and did a large Mickey head on the front with his name underneath. He wore it alot but outgrew it long before we ever went back to Disney. (Disneyland 4 years later)

@Disney Addicted there is something to being able to draw. I have a friend who, now, machine quilts for others. She was doing a lot of drawing when she was getting started with it. Likely something her teacher told her would be beneficial.

For anyone wanting to watch and learn more free motion quilting Angela Walters (she has MIdnight quilter on YouTube and she also has free motion sew-alongs on FB) has amazing videos, tips and tricks for getting started. I could watch her videos for hours.

Now I'll have to go get a special foot for my machine. I know there is a reason I haven't started quilting a top I finished piecing a few months ago. Another rabbit hole to go down on a rainy day. Thanks for posting @Pumpkin1172.

@Donald - my hero I seen this when I was on-line somewhere and I thought of you!!!! This would be great in those disney prints you have!!!! I want to try one too! I think I will try to make one for the granddaughter to use as a toy...so I can learn to do i with lots of mistakes. She won't care about the mistakes

I wish i had a pattern when i tackled THIS -- yup, created the pattern myself to make a Covid Bag using the scraps from all the masks I'd made up to that point.

I was planning on making one for my bestie with the Dumbo materials I picked up from Etsy but I think I might use the pattern you found instead! Might still quilt the material though to give it a bit more body, I've used some really stiff squishy backing material and the bag is holding up incredibly well.

I thought the same thing....I would probably quilt it...just to give it a little extra sturdiness. But from watching the video...it looks like it is easy enough to do!

I used Pellon Flex-Foam to quilt on -- the stuff that's fusible on one side and it was super easy to work with, didn't need to use a backing material. I just used my walking foot and did a simple 1" square, much easier than people think :P

I am STILL working on that bag .. sure the directions say they're easy and there's a video to follow but dang, i keep getting confused. I'm at the point where there's stupid hand sewing needed and it's harder than it should be due to one of my tweaks.

ANYWHO, I decided to take a little break and whip up a few easier things today - case for my glasses and then who doesn't need a matching band for their Fitbit :P I'm gonna make a ton more of these sleeves so i can match my masks & outfits cause I'm weird like that !

Still working on DS's quilt. It's a Mario themed quilt for a 29 year old. Not really motivated at the moment but I keep plugging away at it. I'm piecing it by hand so it take a while. I'll post a picture when the top is complete.

If I used a machine to stitch it together I would finish it too quickly and then I would feel the need to shop for more fabric and start another one. Hand stitching and quilting slows me down and saves money. Theoretically.

FINALLY finished the bag for my Dumbo-loving friend! I'm not happy with a few things, mainly the lining and how hard it was to get attached to the bag itself, if I make another one I'll figure out how to do it WITHOUT hand-sewing!!!!!

Decided to make some key fobs simply because I don't have enough projects on the go :P

OH yeah, forgot to include pictures of all of the band covers I made for my Fitbit and my daughter as well since her life has gone down the toilet lately.

These are mine

and these are for the whiny, very sad lil (32 year old) girl

And every time she use one of these she will be reminded that her Mom is the best and loves her very much.
They are beautiful Hon.
