Spoke to soon. All my Xbox gift cards were canceled.

And my $520 Amex credit never showed up so they reissued a credit to my account.

and Kroger is now selling $200 gift of college gift cards online ($5.95 fee). May be worth it at times for the fuel points or with a chase msr. I’ve dropped these into our 529s in the past.

Double-posting, but in other news - we decided last-minute to go to WDW for President’s Day weekend, and we got a great deal on a studio at the Boardwalk (renting through someone’s DVC points).

I’ve always wanted to stay at the Boardwalk - never have - so I’m excited! I hope it lives up to my expectations more than the Polynesian did…

I love Boardwalk. We always rent points and every time I say I am going to try something new but end up booking Boardwalk. Love the area and convenience to Epcot and HS.

I am so shocked at these responses to be honest! Using points versus paying easily $300+ nt in cash?!!!? Who are you people?!! Hahaha! I guess it really goes to show, points don't always prevail just cuz its the free/cheaper way to do things. Will definitely have to look into staying in the park based on these recommendations now. I will say, we absolutely HATE camping or anything that resembles "roughing it", so I will have to look at the cabins ya'll suggested. So glad I asked this!! You guys are amazing, as always, with the help :)
personally, if I'm not getting 1.5 cents a point I'm using it for the next trip :) but I plan ahead 80% of the time I find this value or more.

Has anyone used the $300 Venture credit yet? Do you know if it can be used on multiple purchase, IE, a $125 purchase and a $200 purchase, to trigger the credit?

I think I found own answer if this is correct...

  • The credit applies each cardmember year (or anniversary year, if you prefer), including the year in which you open the card; the credit timing isn’t based on the calendar year
  • The credit can be used across one or multiple transactions, until the $300 limit is reached
  • There’s no registration required to use the $300 annual travel credit
  • Any purchase through Capital One Travel qualifies towards using this credit, so there’s all kinds of travel you can arrange this way
  • The credit will generally appear in your account within one to seven business days of making an eligible purchase
  • If the credited Capital One Travel purchase is canceled, the statement credit may be removed from your account, though can be reissued on any past or future Capital One Travel purchase of up to $300

Aiming for my 22-23 Companion Pass. Currently at 2/24 and was approved for SW Biz Performance on 1/7/22. Already hit MSP and wanna apply for a personal but want to make sure I time it right. Last personal Chase app was 8 months ago.

Should I wait at least a month after my Biz app? Trying to earn CP for mid-March but don’t want my velocity to raise eyebrows.

You don’t have to wait, since you haven’t been getting Chase cards on a regular basis. The support links aren’t great but it is an easy CP with a small MSR. I’m doing the same, but I have been getting a new Chase card every 3 months, so I’m waiting the recommended 3 months.

Two cards back to back shouldn't be a problem (otherwise the double dip of Sapphires or other cards would not exist). If you prefer to be extra cautious, you could reduce the credit line on the Biz card you already met the MSR for or some other card in your Chase portfolio. The velocity concern is not simply about time, but about maximum credit extended by Chase (and them projecting a possibility of you maxing out all of your cards to calculate the liability risk). So, if you reduce some CLs it lowers that risk and could also improve your chances of an auto approval.

Much appreciated, thanks!

Just know you’ll pay that and have no AC (don’t really need it), no TV, no internet. There are some hilarious reviews out there where people didn’t know that going in. But they must have done 0 research. I don’t camp. I don’t stay at the cabins with shared bathrooms you have to leave your cabin for! These cabins are rustic but have real beds, real bathrooms (showers only) and electricity. you Are paying for location and it is worth it.

I have been burned by the offsite agencies before. Now, we only rent through the big names with counters in MCO. Prices have been ridiculous the past year but UCT still offers 50% off when you buy any tickets. So, we have quite a collection of their $6 popcorn/drink tickets and get very reasonable rates without resorting to nu, ez, Payless, fox, sixt or any of the others with terrifyingly low reviews.

Thank you for this awesome tip! I saved over $300 over Costco!

After I checked out, I happened to look in the FAQs and saw that you can get the car rental discount separately from the ticket purchase if you contact them. I wonder if any ticket purchase ever qualifies. Wouldn't be as convenient as just doing it yourself though.

if you bought tix, you can just log back in to your account and book a car. It should give you the discount that way.

I know it isn't on points but if at all possible I recommend staying in the park at Yellowstone. I split time between Old Faithful area and Canyon area. The distances between the different areas are a lot. It really helps not having to drive into the park to start your day and just walking over to Old Faithful to see it erupt - priceless.

I would recommend that In Grand Tetons as well - Signal Mountain Lodge is great. Some Hotel/Motel rooms and some cabins. We stayed in the cabins and they were great. Get the nachos on the deck at the restaurant there. Avoid Coulter Bay cabins. They were moved there from all over the area in the 50s and it looked like that was the last time they were cleaned. Small and a bit dirty.

I completely agree with the suggestion to stay in Yellowstone if possible. However, it may be a difficult challenge to get a room this summer. We're returning to Yellowstone/GTNP in June (also went in '15 and '19) and this has been the hardest to get the accommodations we want in Yellowstone. We booked in August and still didn't get our preference. It's possible that some rooms will become available as cancelation dates arrive, but that's no guarantee and there will be so many people (myself included) stalking for them.

I also agree with Signal Mtn Lodge (we've stayed there twice and will return in June). Again, even back in August, our preferred room type wasn't available for June.

It really depends on what your "must dos" are for Yellowstone as to if West Yellowstone will work for you. If you want to visit the Mammoth or Lamar Valley areas, that's a LOT of driving. If you only care about thermal areas and the canyon and lake areas, it's doable (but still a lot of driving). Our touring preference is to get our early to see wildlife, have a picnic lunch somewhere, back to the room for a rest/nap and then back out in the evening when people are winding up their days. That would be impossible if staying outside the park.

Victor will also be a long drive into the Tetons as a base area. You have to drive over Teton Pass each way. Again, it depends on what you want to do with your time. Do you want to be in the park early to look for wildlife (although I wouldn't want to drive over Teton Pass in the dark). Are you just going into the park for 1 day? But I agree -- the cost of lodging in the Jackson Hole area is insane. Last trip we thought about 1 night in Jackson (and fly in/out of JAC) and realized we'd much prefer Signal Mtn Lodge for the whole trip for those prices (and we ended flying in/out of Bozeman instead). Bozeman is also crazy expensive (we like downtown and prefer to stay there the night before we depart). We used points for room at the Element in downtown and it was over $500 cash rate. In '15, we spent under $200 to stay at The Lark (which is a very cool independent hotel).

All this talk of national parks has me wondering-- how early do y'all recommend booking trips to Yellowstone, Acadia, Yosemite, etc.? We are normally last minute planners or at the most maybe 6-9 months out, but maybe if I start planning now we can have our pick for a park Summer '23.
