I have a Victorias Secret card that I never use. Is it better to keep these open or close the accounts?

Better call and find out if it is still active. I found out that a lot of these cards get closed automatically due to inactivity and I never even find out. Macy's is the biggest culprit. I have had at least 2 Macy's cards closed over the last 20 years and I find out when I go use it (like 5 years later).

No - I'm on an iPhone as well. And I am having the issue on both my laptop (a MacBook) and my work computer (an HP). Very strange. I guess I'll give it a few days & see if it straightens itself out. I can see offers only for my SW card - it shows that card number and does not give me a drop down to change it to either my Slate or my CSP.

Defeats the purpose but I find that once I go to each card individually it is added into drop-down on the main page. It's a glitch that happens occasionally that I have seen for months now on my accounts. Sometimes logging out and back in fixes it. Other times I go to each card. This is mostly through the app though, I rarely look at the offers when I'm on the PC.

General advice is to keep it open if it's an older card, which helps with average age of accounts. If you have a high CL, some people will keep those cards open to help with keeping credit utilization low.

Otherwise, it's a personal decision. If you don't use the card, I'd probably cancel. As a PP said, it may get auto-canceled for you for lack of use.

I'm trying to figure out what credit card we should have out 18 year old soon to be college freshman. We have her as a user on our BOA Cash Rewards Visa, but I'd like to get her a credit card for travel perks since she'll most likely be going to college in Arizona (we are in NJ) and flying back and forth a lot. She also has a business on Etsy, so maybe she should apply for a CIP?

Here are the cards I have:

Chase Sapphire Preferred
Chase Ink Preferred Bus
Chase Marriott Pref Business
Chase Marriott Premier Plus
Chase Freedom Unlimited
Chase United MPE
Amex Travel Card
Amex Everyday (I'm a user on my husband's)
Chase Sapphire Reserve (husband only)

My DLR saga continues. So I have 3 tix from 2019/20 and was unable to use them in 2021. 2 were obtained with TYP and one from UCT. All are expired.
UCT says must contact DLR, they can't fix.
First call to DLR, CM says Cx Travel (Citi travel partner for TYP) must call to get new tix issued; for UCT must show up to DLR ticket booth in person to upgrade to new ticket.
First call to Citi, rep super nice, takes my info and offers to call me back after he calls DLR and gets new tix. He calls back to say, DLR told him *I* should call but not until my dates are open as they are only selling tickets for dates open for reservations.
Second call to DLR yesterday (our travel dates are now open for res) CM insists all upgrades/new tickets must be obtained by the travel agency who booked them. This includes Cx Travel and UCT. After telling her Cx travel was told no on this last week, she insists she's right because any refund has to go back to original purchaser. No mention of having to show up in Anaheim in person for either set of tix. Phone call 30 minutes long, after hold of 5 minutes.
Called Cx Travel back, after multiple menus to get to Cruise dept, I hold 20 minutes and get disconnected. Next call, after waiting another 15 minutes, a person actually answers. I explain, rep is nice, says please hold while I call DLR. She comes back 10 minutes later saying the hold time is so long and they will be closing so she'll need to call Monday.
I have emailed UCT again to see what they say, but I'm sure they'll reiterate the "nothing they can do" which they already told me.
So after 1 1/2 hours on phone, I have no resolution and little hope for one at this point. Plus now the rep will be calling me back on Monday while I'm at work, which is uncomfortable at best (I don't have a desk job, so always have to try to step away and find a place to talk). Ugh.
Quoting myself as the saga continues. UCT replied back that they can't help, there are no refunds but I could call xxx number they gave me, press 4 and ask for a supervisor. Calling that number there is no choice #4 and I got connected to Tours & Packages who said they don't do tickets and transferred me to Ticketing. I did ask for a supervisor but the woman on the phone said she could help. She told me if I purchase a new ticket, then send the old ticket with proof of a new one, they will refund the expired one. So I purchased a new $540 DLR ticket and will be very >:( if I don't get refunded.
CxTravel for my tix purchased with Citi TYP has not gotten back to me. The woman there was waiting for DLR to get back to her.
So frustrated and tired. Starting to really dislike Disney and will never buy from UCT again as they have been no help (and all they have is email because if you call them their phone message says "We are overwhelmed with calls and are not taking any phone calls ") 😳

10 charge and 5 cc though there may be a few dps of 6 on r/churning.

Is there a list somewhere of which ones are technically charge? I keep trying to find it but they always say that AMEX cards are no longer traditional Charge cards....Are all of the Platinum cards considered Charge cards?

I believe I’ve read here and on Reddit that Chase usually wants to see that she’s had 1 year of credit history on her own before applying at Chase

Yes unless it's cobranded. Any that you couldn't carry a balance on without pay over time. I'm sure there's a blog post somewhere or something that if googled will tell you what are amex charge cards.

I can attest to that. Last year DD 21 was added as an AU to our cards and that gave her a credit score of 710 or so, when she previously lacked any credit to even generate one. This week she applied for a Chase IHG and was denied for lack of revolving accounts and no established investment/financial relationship with Chase.

i think japan will open by summer they finally opened up to students and business travelers in a month (I've been loosely following this)

yeah, more confirmations this morning. going from 7 days quarantine to 3 days. hopefully the Sakura stays closed until they allow visitors in... ^_^
Also been watching Taiwan too, they are very similar to Japan. current plan for them is 10 day quarantine in march, if it goes well, then 7 days.

come on asia!

Any card that is advertised as "no preset spending limit" is a charge card. Although I'm looking at the site now and I'm not seeing them advertised that way now :rolleyes2

Platinum, Gold, Green - business and personal versions for those 3 - and Plum are the charge cards I can think of off hand. Everything else is credit. They have more credit cards than charge cards.

If you see Pay Over Time / Pay bill in full in the APR section it should be charge card.

She needs to build a relationship with Chase, I would start her out with a Freedom card, then after a year of good credit history try for a cobrand card. Chase usually wants a couple of years of history before they start giving premium travel cards (like CSP/CSR)

If you want her to have travel benefits I would just make her an AU on the CSP or CSR.

Ha, me also! I won't open it again. I just say I used to have the card but haven't used it in forever and they will check it's status and give me a discount. Had this happen twice in the last year. I don't shop often enough especially since I've retired.

Was anyone able to use the US Bank Business Leverage card to pay a mortgage with Plastiq? I just got it and I tried to use it to pay my mortgage and it's saying Visa doesn't allow it for personal cards. It says that business cards can be used which is what I'm doing but it won't let me continue.

ETA: It looks like US Bank blocks mortgage payments on all credit cards. Should have done my research first.

I am having a SW issue. They dropped our return route to our local airport and have rerouted us. Except the route they put us on has the second segment leaving hours before the first segment has even arrived. Apparently they've invented teletransportation at Southwest, or they want me to parachute out and swim. Sigh.

I spent HOURs on chat this morning. They won't send me to the other airport near me without charging a fare difference. They won't change one of the segments to a different connecting airport- kept saying that's changing the city pairs, uh no. After spending hours on this for 10 passengers, I am nowhere and I just want to cry. I cannot even cancel or modify this on my own online- it won't allow it.

I wouldn't even take two connections to get to Europe and now that's what I am being forced into it to get home from the Caribbean.

Twitter doesn't respond. Chat is useless. Anyone know how to actually talk with a human supervisor who can make some headway on this?

That's great news. Fingers crossed Japan opens up soon and flights restart.

Can someone show me a pic of a Visa or MC that they use as a debit card to purchase money orders? The last time I tried I couldn't get the PIN to work no matter what I tried but I have done it before I just don't remember what cards I bought.
