Poly DVC expansion coming 2024!

I actually prefer the current Poly quiet pool over the main one where you’re packed in like sardines and can’t get a chair unless you get there when the pool opens or choose those random ones on the steps towards the hot tub.

I don't think it's a "shortcut" to put in a normal, boring pool. The pool with the slides and the activities is next door. This is a tiny space, there's no room for anything cool, except alcohol. Win-win.
I don’t think they’re going to spend two or three hundred million dollars or more for a new tower with a totally generic pool. They’ll do something. Look at VDH as a template. Relatively small building, better pool at the Disneyland hotel dvc members can use 50 yards away, yet still they’re constructing a small pool for the tower, with an interactive Mickey Mouse water feature and (maybe) a swim up bar.

I prefer the poly quiet pool because I’m not a fan of the music they play at the main pool. I would love it if they would keep things themed and play some tropical paradise style of music instead of the top hits of the last 20 years. It makes me feel like I’m at a public pool.

There you go, throwing logic into the mix.

Disney's Riviera is rumored to have cost $350M to yet its two pools are rather plain, certainly not up to the theming of the older pools at the Polynesian, Yacht & Beach Club, Boardwalk, Wilderness Lodge, Port Orleans Riverside, or Coronado Springs.

I'm sure they'll do the best they can with the Poly Tower pool, but they are limited to a relatively small footprint.

Riviera is really a bit of an architectural outlier (it’s the basis for “most” of the complaints about the resort’s aesthetic) in that the source material, ie French and Italian grand resort hotels on the Mediterranean, are fairly subdued and lack the overt theming of, say, AKL, Poly, or WL. The pool at RR conveys that same architectural design motif.

I think something (and I’m obviously using extreme examples) like the Clown Pool at BW, or Stormalong Bay, or even the lesser themed pools at say SSR or WL just wouldn’t “fit in” with the aesthetic the designers of RR wanted to project.

I agree.

The drawings of the Poly Tower show something that looks more like the Swan Reserve (with balconies) than the Polynesian Village. With this in mind, I wonder exactly how much theming would be appropriate for the pool at Poly Tower.

I'm no architect but those 2 buildings don't look very similar to me at all. As far as fitting in with the Poly look, I'm fine with them not making it super close to the design of the longhouses from 50 years ago. Its a new hotel, I'm game to see what they come up with as far as theming and Imagineering touches.

Curious about why ccv is your favorite of the three?!
I think I really like the feel and location of the resort. The resort has a great location for me, it seems like you are really away from everything but are actually pretty close. The lobby is amazing with nice seating areas, we love the main pool first thing in the morning and use the hot tubs at the quiet pool after a long day of walking. Really enjoy Geyser Point as well as the Hotel Store and nice relaxing boat back from MK. I like the rooms and point chart as well, usually stay in 1br but shorter or split stays we may do the studio. The studio is pretty small compared to VGF or Riviera but, it seems to be well thought out with nice areas to store your stuff and get it out of the way. The staff at WL are also very good and seem like they are treated well there also seems to be a lot of veteran employees that work there. I give WL a slight edge for me, my wife's favorite is still VGF though.

"That new DVC tower at Poly looks cool, and I'm glad DVC is expanding!"

Yeah, but it's too close to GF.
Yeah, but it won't have its own Monorail station.
Yeah, but they ruined the walkway.
Yeah, but they got rid of the luau.
Yeah, but the site is too small.
Yeah, but the theming I see in the artwork looks nothing like the rest of the resort.
Yeah, but it looks like Reflections.
Yeah, but where will you park?
Yeah, but there won't be any food locations.
Yeah, but the rooms are going to be too small.
Yeah, but it won't have theme park views.
Yeah, but it will block other theme park views.
Yeah, but there won't be enough studios.
Yeah, but there will be too many studios.
Yeah, but the studios won't sleep 5.
Yeah, but the studios don't have 2 bathrooms.
Yeah, but it will be a new association.
Yeah, but it will be part of the old association.
Yeah, but remember when they added the Treehouses at SSR?
Yeah, but it will have restrictions.
Yeah, but it will make them jack up direct prices everywhere.
Yeah, but it will be the last new construction until 2042.
Yeah, but the pool is too small.
Yeah, the pool isn't too small but its actually just a fountain they'll let you jump in like at Disney Springs.
Yeah, but it will make Trader Sam's even tougher to get into.

That article is saying it would have cost 350m to build reflections…?

Maybe the buildings from 50 years ago were the Poly village but now the new building is the high-rise hotel built next to such village since that's totally a thing nowadays lol

It's the high rise tower next to the village that happens to be between to a 1900s Victorian Beach resort and a monorail station :) There are in fact quite a few high rise hotels in Polynesia to be fair. So maybe the tower is themed after those, sort of like building a casino themed to Las Vegas 🤣

Re Riviera, I think the toned down theming for the pools was less a budget issue and more an aesthetic choice that reflects the design approach for the entire resort. That’s why some people, myself included, love it, while others, not so much.

Considering that Poly2 reflects the same kind of thinking and has a smaller footprint, I think you’re right, better not to expect the pool area to be an over the top Polynesian wonderland! But I do think it will have some unique design feature(s) to help sales.

To be fair, the Poly tower predates DVC in the Disney concepts, it just never got built until now.

I think Poly2 will be great, but I don't think the pool is going to be why.

I know, I'm just joking around mostly. I have high hopes for Poly2 as well. I think they've earned the benefit of the doubt they can build some great resorts, and they'll want to do the Poly justice since it's so loved. That's what I choose to believe anyway :)

As for the pool I have no idea. We just need some more details so we can properly overreact, overanalyze and argue. Not that the lack of detail is preventing any of those things 🤣

My spouse and I spend a lot of time at Disney pools; it’s an important consideration when we pick where to stay.

It would be a shame if the Poly’s Lava Pool became even more crowded than it already is because of Poly Tower, but those staying at Poly Village or PVB were not allowed to visit the Tower’s pool.
