Using mugs in TS?

Answering some of the comments. . . I would definitely not do this at home, but at home, the TS restaurant probably is not owned by the same company where I would be buying the drink. If you're having a drink while waiting on your reservation, I don't see the big deal of finishing it inside the restaurant when both are owned by Disney. If you were at the pool bar having a drink and your table was called, couldn't you take it in with you?

I probably won't do this anyway, I don't even drink soda and prefer freshly brewed tea, but my child might want to. I'm on the fence whether the mugs are even worth it to us, so I was thinking maybe I'm missing a use people are making of them. I don't imagine a lot of people resort hopping just to eat and drink at a resort QS.

I guess I see both sides of this. But I DO worry about being rude / tacky so I probably wouldn't do it.

At first I thought: There probably isn't a rule that this is not allowed, but I would never do this.

Then I thought: Actually I could see myself making an exception if there was someone with special needs in my group.
We would buy a drink at the TS restaurant but then poor it into the cup as it has a lid that does not require a paper straw as DS can not handle the Paper Straws.

We no longer do this as we now carry reusable straws that were acceptable to him and are much easier to carry in our Disney bag than the mug.

For my toddler, I would probably use it for water since it has a good lid and straw. But for myself, no. I doubt they would really care though, unless it was a signature restaurant.

I have brought in drinks for my toddler at restaurants at home as well. But only water in a water bottle.

I don’t resort hop JUST to eat and drink there, but I do resort hop and if I have a mug I take it along. AKL comes to mind, it is a nice place to visit, lots of artwork and animals to see of course, The boardwalk area is another, as well as WL.

Beaches & Cream is a specified refill station. So not quite the same thing IMO.
Are you sure that Beaches & Cream is a specified refill station? I would have guessed that Hurricane Hannah's (out by the pool), Beach Club Marketplace, and the Market at Ale & Compass -- which are all quick service restaurants -- would have been the designated refill stations at the Yacht Club/Beach Club complex, but not Beaches & Cream.

I don’t buy them anymore, but you were always able to refill at the the B & C take out window.

This is different than a restaurant at home. We're talking about Disney Resort restaurants and mugs that are ubiquitous at Disney Resorts. People literally carry them everywhere. I really REALLY don't think anybody is going to even notice (including your server) and if they do, I really doubt they're going to care. You're going to be ordering a meal (which is the most important thing) and lots of people don't order beverages other than water at sit-down restaurants anyway. It's fine.

I agree. OP, please don’t worry about the posts that say this is “tacky” Or rude. Who cares what these people (who are NOT paying for your trip to Disney) think? Disney, in deciding on so many cost increases, is far tackier. Take your paid for refillable mug anywhere you want without a worry.

Exactly. You're at Disney. With a Disney issued mug. At a casual Disney sit-down restaurant. OP isn't talking about bringing a full-on picnic basket with her own food lol. The number of people who are actually going to care about this in the moment is zero.

I think it’s funny how upset people seem to be getting over this. “Omg how dare you take money away from Disney, the worlds biggest price gouger by drinking out of a cup that Disney owns and you paid for in a restaurant Disney owns and you’re paying to eat at??!! How dare you! So tacky!!” Lol. Who cares what these people think or if it’s considered tacky or not? Try it, Disney will tell you if you can’t do it but I don’t think they’d say anything and if you can save a couple bucks on what is a ridiculously overpriced vacation, then go ahead. Disneys cutting all kinds of corners that will negatively affect your vacation to save way more than the value of that drink. And again, who cares what anyone else thinks?

It's not about "caring what anyone thinks." It's akin to shoplifting, because it's taking something into a restaurant that offers the same product for sale. At what point would you consider it wrong if Disney didn't "price-gouge," because clearly that's your argument.

Yes. They're designed and marketed for the refill stations. You can say, "Who cares what people think," but it's still not what the mug program was designed for, even if all the restaurants are owned by the same entity, regardless of the price point of the restaurant.
Most of the replies are “don’t do it it’s tacky”. I was responding to those replies. I said try it and Disney will tell you if you can’t. It’s not shoplifting because you’ve paid Disney for the drinks in that mug and Disney owns the restaurant. Totally different situation. And op did say she wouldn’t do it because she didn’t want to look rude. That’s why I said don’t worry about that part of it. If You can fill it and carry it into the parks, you can fill it and carry it into a restaurant.

Not different at all. You've paid for it, and agreed to their rules to use it at QS resort restaurants and in and around the resort. NOT in the TS restaurants. You can justify it because "Disney owns the restaurant," but it's still wrong. Would you be OK with Disney's breaking their end of the agreement by charging you to use it at QS refill stations? Of course not. You'd raise holy hell about being charged. Yet you're asking Disney to look the other way when you use it at TS places, where they're selling the same beverages because they're "price-gougers."

Saying this is shoplifting is ludicrous. There’s nothing in the description of the mug that tries to limit where you can drink it just where you can refill it. If you took the drink cup and went to fill it at some place it’s not authorized for maybe you have a point but bringing a cup of soda with you is not shoplifting. It’s the same as if you had Starbucks coffee with you when you sat down or a bottled water or a bottle of soda (neither or which would I throw out before sitting down). There’s no reasonable scenario you can claim this is anywhere near shoplifting.

Heartily agreed.

There's also the factor of cheating your server on their tip. For a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids), if they all bring full mugs, that's around $16 less than they'd otherwise have spent.

As tip-dependent as many servers are, the loss could be significant.

This is disingenuous. Clearly, the refillable mug gives the privilege of a "free" drink at resort QS, where you'd otherwise pay for every non-alcoholic drink but water.

It's a privilege that saves the budget-minded a good deal of money. One that can be revoked if people abuse it as is being advocated by some here.

Oh my goodness people. Mountain, meet molehill. OP don't worry about it. People carry those mugs around everywhere. Throw in an extra buck for your server's tip if you're so inclined. It is not uncommon for people to get a drink while they're waiting for a table and then bring it into the restaurant with them. It's a 12 cent beverage, not an $80 steak. This is really really not a big deal, I promise. Have a great trip...and cheers!
