Looks like they are still running this program. Received this by email today:

Dear Valued LoewsFirst Platinum Member,

The Hard Rock Hotel, Universal Orlando has developed an exclusive
program for Platinum Loews First members only! Basically, it's designed so
you do not have to wait in line at the front desk, to check-in! Or listen
to the same spiel you've heard a million times! If you are interested
please call or e-mail, so we can send the form to pre-register you. Once
that form has been completely filled out and returned, it takes 2 days to
process. We look forward to your arrival!

Instead of faxing the documents I took three photos (express check-in form, drivers licence and front of CC, reverse side of CC) and sent them as attachments in an email. Ten minutes of getting these documents sent, but I would much rather deal with this at this end as opposed to being stood in line after a long flight.

I got this reply email:

Thank you for your response. The documents you sent me are
absolutely satisfactory. I will have everything prepared for you when you
arrive. Thanks again and I look forward to your arrival.

As we are checking in on a Monday I wouldn't expect check-in to be busy anyway, but it will be interesting to see how this program works.
