For those of you who need stimulation during your trip to Gulf Shores, there is an amusement? park being built.

This is on the Foley Beach Express headed toward the Orange Beach Toll Bridge. There is a McDonalds in the middle of nowhere on the right (sod grass fields on all four corners) that is in Foley. Behind the Mickey D's is a lot of construction - the town of Foley (a few mile due north of Gulf Shores) is building a huge complex of soccer/baseball/softball/lacrosse fields and the amusement park is designed next to it to siphon off family entertainment dollars when they are not competing. The fields are designed to attract tournements, playoffs, competitions, anything requiring a multi-night stay (at the beach maybe) while little Johnie or Joanie gets the ball in to score.
The OWA angle is that the amusement park is being financed by the Poarch Tribe of Creek Indians (they sided with Andrew Jackson back in 18xx and didn't have to walk the Trail of Tears when he won). They have casinos at their reservation in Atmore, AL on I65 on the way to Mobile/Gulf Shores and this is a way of their business branching out.
That being said, I'm going to head for a deserted piece of beach at GSP and watch the waves come in...
There are options competing for your entertainment dollar even around Gulf Shores.
It won't be open in time for us in May but it's coming.

PS - with GS/OB already being a tourist destination, the available work force of teenagers, senior citizens, and adults has already been pretty well saturated with job opportunities at the amusment park/restaurant/cleaning/laundry wage level. Where are hundreds of workers for this park going to come from? They could compete with pay rates (which are passed on to their customers) or pursue the same path as others have done.
