Twas The Night Before Elections

Wow, I am uncertain if this thread is full of hate or lies. For those referencing the Koran, his Grandmother was not muslim, so I am unsure what you are trying to infer, other then the far right lies of his religous beliefs. For him selling out his supporters, or suckers as some have called us, he did not change his platform last night. He simply said, that change will not happen overnight, might take 1 year, 1 term, and he did not refer to any particular platform item. For those saying the "young adults" gave him the election, damn straight. They are tired of seeing some citizens fail their country, so they took it into their own hands. Let's bring up the veiled racism. The President elect is part Black, get over it. He is also part White. Let us not forget which party has lead us into Iraq, going against their own policy from the previous battle of not getting involved in a Religous Quagmire. Explain the fact that your "party" has yet to hold responsible the people who caused 9/11. We should also look at the obvious factor that caused the results you are all so upset about. Obama, whether you like it or not, has inspired millions to Hope for and get involved for Change. Doing good for your fellow citizen, your self, and your future. It is ironic that his platform of doing for others bothers so many. Why is that? Are some people so used to having the government make their decisions for them? Are people happy with having their rights stepped on, their liberties suspended or altered, under the thin veil of National Security? Some of you mentioned generations before us who did for themselves, who did not need hand outs. Am I to safely assume then that none of you or your relatives are currently or have previously recieved Medicare, Social Security or any type of government assistance, including but not limited to any one time tax rebates or property tax relief checks? This would probalbly also include any type of free clinic or service, whether it be a free flu shot, or maybe a tax or law seminar, maybe a weekly visit to a community center or senior center. That no one has ever in any way utilized a Volunteer Fire or EMS service? See, when you start spewing rethoric, you need to watch what you spew, because we all know, that it can be turned and put back on you. Get over your racism if that is what is bothering you. get over your Right Wing talking Points. Get over the fact that you loss. You will have a chance in 4 years to try again, since we made sure to win this election by a big enough margin not to lose it in the courts again like in Florida in 2000.

Wow, that was very well said. Thank you.:grouphug:

As I told my very upset son this morning, the United States of America is strong enough to weather any president, and the President of the the United States deserves our respect until he does something to have us take that respect away (see Clinton, who did NOT have sex with that woman - I can't visit the Hall of Presidents without thinking that) While I voted for McCain, I am now praying that I will truly be better off in 4 years. Of course, if I am not better off, then many other people will not be either and they will be voting for change once again.
I am seriously more concerned by the Congress results. I have a congressman in my district that votes against every bill that would put more tax dollars in my pocket - and when I wrote to ask him why - he said because it was a Republican led bill. That was it, no other reason why. Of course, he also said that the people of SWPA (his district) were racist and hicks - and he got re-elected!
The most important thing is that it seems as if everyone here got out and exercised our right and responsibility to vote

Well i had to vote for murtha since he gave my son a nomination to the USAFA. He was so polite in his correspondence. I was middle of the road for this particular race, but the nomination put me on his side.

Wow - spend a couple of days away from the 'dis boards and looky what we have here?

Hope everyone is having a better day today, and that my taxes don't go up any more.

I have to admit, the original post was very clever, and there are a lot of thoughtful responses on both sides here. Maybe people will get more active and write their Reps and Senators to really make things start happening, whatever you want. One of my Senators is on medical leave, and the other was just re-elected.

Our state just passed a referendum vote that reduces the criminal offense for first time offenders caught with up to an ounce of pot. That I can agree with. It did not make it legal to purchase, but does not make it a permanent mark on your record. We must have had a lot of college kids vote yesterday!

I just got this in an email. Thought I would pass it along.

YES, I'M A BAD AMERICAN
I Am the Liberal-Progressives Worst Nightmare. I am an American.
I am a Master Mason and believe in God.
I ride Harley Davidson Motorcycles and believe in American products.
I believe the money I make belongs to me and my family, not some Liberal governmental functionary be it Democratic or Republican!
I'm in touch with my feelings and I like it that way!
I think owning a gun doesn't make you a killer, it makes you a smart American.

I think being a minority does not make you noble or victimized, and does not entitle you to anything. Get over it!

I believe that if you are selling me a Big Mac, do it in English.
I believe everyone has a right to pray to his or her God when and where they want to.

My heroes are John Wayne, Babe Ruth, Roy Rogers, and
Willie G Davidson that makes the Awesome Harley Davidson Motorcycles.

I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.
I know wrestling is fake and I don't waste my time watching or arguing about it.
I've never owned a slave, or was a slave, I haven't burned any witches or been persecuted by the Turks and neither have you! So, shut up already.
I believe if you don't like the way things are here, go back to where you came from and change your own country! This is AMERICA ...
We like it the way it is!

If you were born here and don't like it you are free to move to any Socialist country that will have you.

I want to know which church is it exactly where the Reverend Jesse Jackson preaches, where he gets his money, and why he is always part of the problem and not the solution.
Can I get an AMEN on that one?

I also think the cops have the right to pull you over if you're breaking the law, regardless of what color you are.
And, no, I don't mind having my face shown on my drivers license.
I think it's good..... And I'm proud that 'God' is written on my money.

I think if you are too stupid to know how a ballot works, I don't want you deciding who should be running the most powerful nation in the world for the next four years.
I believe the president of the United States should put his hand over his heart and say the pledge of allegiance and should have no reservations about wearing American flag pins on his lapel.
I dislike those people standing in the intersections trying to sell me stuff or trying to guilt me into making 'donations' to their cause. Get a Job and do your part!
I believe that it doesn't take a village to raise a child, it takes two parents.
I believe 'illegal' is illegal no matter what the lawyers think.
I believe the American flag should be the only one allowed in AMERICA !

If this makes me a BAD American, then yes, I'm a BAD American.
If you are a BAD American too, please forward this to everyone you know.
We want our country back!

Race has nothing to do with why I don't like Obama. I would love to have a man or woman of color as president, just not him. I am not sore the republicans lost, I accept the fact, however, one must realize that change is not always for the better. I cannot believe in my heart this change will be for anyone's betterment, period. You are right, in 4 years, everyone will be able to vote again, however, we will also get to vote in 2 years as well.

Answer me this though...if discriminating against race is wrong, why is discriminating against wealth is not? You can't have a race war but you can advocate a class war by taxing only the rich. I just can't understand it, especially because I advocate neither.

1st, let me say, well written thoughts., even before it was edited. As far as the Florida debacle, you are correct, it is a sore point, and I brought it up because I was a bit angry when typing that earlier. I do not believe in class bating and only taxing the rich. I do believe though in returning to the previous tax rates, which, in a small part, allowed us to have a surplus prior to Bush. I also believe in a flat tax, but that is not likely in the near future, so untill then, progressive is what we have and have to work with it, untill it is changed. As an independent, I do hold out hope that the Senate does not go Dem Super Majority. I also think John Sununu(sorry spelling) of New Hampshire is a great guy, and lost not to his own fault, but due to the curent climate, just like Frank Lautenberg of NJ has no business running again @84. I also do not like Al Franken, and looks like we might be ok there. I am hoping Obama will Govern from the center and not the left, which I think he will. I also think he will keep Reed and Poulousi(spelling) in line. If not then I will refocus my effort, as will others in the future. The way I see it the chance for change has been given, if it is wasted, then it will not be there in the future.
Peace Out.

Now Macs, that was well written and I agree with most of your points there. I hope he governs from the center, we need a strong leader and he's got to step up.

AMEN, to ALL of the above! especially the part about putting your hand over your heart but to BOTH the pledge of allegiance AND national anthem.

Now Macs, that was well written and I agree with most of your points there. I hope he governs from the center, we need a strong leader and he's got to step up.

He has to. The chance he has gotten is not one to be taken lightly. He has the chance to be a great President, like Reagan. Or he can carry on like the Dems did before, which will lead to a bigger mess. What this country needs more then anything is a viable, national, 3rd party, and the power to recall the entire electorate. Untill then, we will play this game every 4 years.
I don't care that he smokes, drinks beer or plays poker. Plus, how great will it be to see those kids running around the White House? Maybe it won't be so stuffy there now.

We want our country back!

No group can claim this country as theirs exclusively. There are several viewpoints and several realities in this country. That's what makes it so strong and the greatest nation on earth.

Freedom exists so we can all live our lives the way we want to. People who don't like the way the country is being run shouldn't be asked to leave, they have the right and duty to change it if they can.

To tell them to move to another country is an insult to all of those who have fought to grant everyone here the right to choose.

I voted for Obama because I was sick and tired of Bush and the exclusionist Religious Right. Bush ruined this country in more ways than I can enumerate. I like McCain and respect him - I just didn't want 4 more years of Republican rule. JMO

you are right about that..... if he messes up, the whole race thing will be thrown in his face. Jackie Robinson did what he had to do, and I can't think of it being done any better. Hopefully Obama realizes it like you say.

I wish there was a 3rd party, maybe in my kids lifetime.... guys like Lautenberg need to be replaced with fresh ideas. They make judges retire at a certain age, why not Senators.

Ok, let me see if I understand this right. People voted for obama wanted to change the way the country was going now. Fair enough, but then they hope he doesn't do what he said but go more towards the middle. If he doesn't do what he said then what is he going to change? I mean he said he would put cap and trade on the coal industry so no new coal plants could be built, easier to get unions put in businesses, health care for everyone, tax increases for the motivated, and others. So please help me understand what kind of change he's going to do that everyone is wanting. I must have missed that somewhere. I know I miss alot. I too would like to see some "changes" but not from someone talking like a socialist. I know he's not a socialist, but he sure does sound like one with his plans for the nanny state. People need to wake up and take responsibilty for their own lives and quit depending on someone else to provide for them. I not talking about if you hit a rough patch and need help, I'm talking about people who live off the government.

I was sure hoping the prospect of change would be reflected in the stock market. Guess not.

I didn't know whether or not you got to read what I first wrote and after I wrote it, felt that a moderator would feel that it was a personal attack, which I really didn't feel it was, just my opinions on what was expressed, but using your quote might have put it over the edge. I was trying very hard not to be personal, but because it might have been, I took it off. I am all for checks and balances, on both sides. I live in a county that takes real advantage of its citizens and I live with it everyday. Even Deb can tell you the horror stories that she has heard on our in person and phone conversations about our local government. Will that happen nationally? Who knows, but when the checks and balances in government go out of whack, I, for one, get really nervous. I, like most of the people here on this board, work very hard for what I earn. I have more than one job because I CHOSE to teach. I can't afford to give any more to the government. I am glad you did get to read it, I guess it should have just been in a PM.

There is only one certain: EVERYONE will be paying close attention to Washington, D.C. for the next four years, and that is kind of interesting!

. But then you almost completely redeemed yourself with the following post.

I am hoping Obama will Govern from the center and not the left, which I think he will.
This I also hope for but based on his past history and associations and his own platform....I have my doubts. I am really concerned for this country if he does not. Only time will tell so all we have is hope.
