Just a silly little TR - Run Away!!

The Ponzi factor, duh! Silly man, do did a great report, so you will too on a Disney report.

I get three things from that.

1. Thanks Marita, that's nice of you to say. If/when we get back I'll think about it. More than likeley if I'm pushed like I was with this one, I'll fold like a cheap suit.

2. "do did a great report", you mean "Do dah! Do dah!"?

3. Shouldn't you be packing, young lady?

But here is the question I have: what did Ruby think of all this?

Lady Elle, please feel free to chime in here, we won't tell your mom, honestly!

Ruby was always at her conference. I made sure that any activities I did with the kids were done and we were back at the hotel by the time Ruby got done. Ruby would not want to go shark cage diving or surfing. Probably would not want to climb Diamond Head. Was not that interested in seeing Aulani (keep the gasps down, people). She might have gone snorkeling.

I felt a lot of guilt this trip, with myself and the kids seeing/doing so much without her. We talked about it a lot. Ruby was adamant that we have fun, and she was hoping that we'd do stuff that she didn't want to do.

On her last full day there, I asked her again what she wanted to do. That day was pretty much a Ruby day. She wanted to see Hale'iwa and watch us surf and maybe do a little shopping. I made sure that she got to do it.

She does feel that she didn't really get a vacation... and she didn't. She was at her conference every day. But then again, if it hadn't been for that, none of us would've gone.

Great report!

My Dad used to plan all our trips down to the bathroom aka toilet <snort> stops :goodvibes Sometimes it worked for him, sometimes it didn't. With 4 females in the car sometimes the best laid plans went out the window, I'm sure you know all about that ;)

See you back over on Nebo's report :wave2:

My favorite story about that is when I took Elle to Toronto when she was 5. It was a Daddy/Daughter road trip (I repeated it about 8 years later with Kay). It was a long haul. On the final day, we stopped for supper in Fargo, ND, 3 hours or so from home. We got back in the car and I was looking forward to being DONE with driving. I had tunnel vision and get-homeitis.
We leave the restaurant...
We leave the City...
We pass a sign that says, "Rest Stop ahead. Next rest stop 60 miles"...
We pass the rest stop...
"Daddy? I have to go to the bathroom!"

:headache:

Yes, I'm wondering how many zillion pages he has to go on the first TR before he adds the next one. I know he says he wants to combine them but I think he's going to have to start a new thread.

I don't remember how many posts/pages you get before you reach the max.
I do know that POTC T ran to 171 pages and he's only at 65 right now.

kimmar???? Is that you? Gee, if I'd known you were around, I would've thrown in some bacon for you. Thanks for popping by! :)

....yeah, yeah, yeah,....promises, promises.....If I had a dime for EVERY time I heard THAT.......popcorn::

Say it isn't so...It can't be the end already.
Smiley-Crying-1.gif

I'm still trying to catch up. Work has been piling up and I just got back from a three day business trip and had to come straight to work only to end up doing someone else's job for part of the day...Grrrr...
smiley_troll.gif

Anyway...the fact remains, work was making me work and I am so far behind not only on your TR, but Laura's, and Nebo's, and there was someone else I had in the que...:scared: But I will catch up, hopefully before this is closed, so I can comment.

We can do it!!! The limit is 250 pages, or 3750 posts. There is a thread for Bonnet Creek lovers over on the Hotels and Attractions board that keeps hitting the limit and restarting. The thread from the purple box guy kept hitting the limit too before he disappeared.

We were only about 80 pages shy on POTC. Since Nebo reports seem to add about 2 pages a day, it shouldn't take too long to hit the 250 limit. Okay everybody - party at Nebo's thread... party:

Posting out of order here. "Random" as DS would say

The End

Free at last, free at last!

Nebo’s gone to DisneyWorld.

No longer will I have to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous Nebo wit. The way I see it, since this is the last chapter (Oh, stop that wild applauding and cheering… you still have to suffer through this one! Mwahahaha! You’re mine! All mine!!!)

sorry ‘bout that…

Aww, cmon Ponzi you know who's favorite around here right? Ummm, TM help me, who's the favorite again, I lost track...

As I was saying, since this is the last chapter; I fully expect to post, await the inevitable scorn and derision, and then have the ever so lovely and delightful Oh Mari toss it unceremoniously on the scrap pile… about 3 minutes before Nebo and Smidgy return home.

As long as we all remain entertained. This interlude brought to you by Pecans, the Southern snack food from the North

Oh, I’m practically giddy as a schoolgirl at the thought!

Another hidden MASH reference, although Alistair Simms came to mind first

See? I can post something like that and not fear retaliation. TR life is good.

Of course if Oh Mari goes on holidaze or something and doesn’t junk it in time, I might be in a spot of bother. But that’s a risk I’m willing to take. Live life on the edge! Playing for all the marbles, ‘cause Lord knows I could use a few, having lost mine when I started this merry-go-round.

So everybody ready? Trays in their upright and locked positions? Seat belts fastened? Can a seatbelt be slowened?
“Did you buckle up, sweetheart?” (Yeah, I’m talking to you Nebo)
“Nnnnnoooootttttt, yyyyyeeeeettttt… Aaaaallllllmmmmooooosssssstttttt ddddddoooooonnnnneeeee”

I guess you can.

My favorite Westjetter line, "For the person who's name is Rip Van Winkle, having just woken up from your long sleep, this is a seatbelt. You fasten it by..."

But that just leaves the question; can a seat belt be fastener or fastenest?

fastenating question...

This TR brought to you by the letter ‘A’ (‘cause I’m Canadian… think about it… say it out loud if it’ll help) and the number ‘infinity’ (which is the length of this intro and the opposite of the amount of patience you, gentle reader, have left).

Eh? :scratchin

Okay, okay. (tough crowd)

The pkondz clan had just raced halfway across Oahu (I’m not kidding…. Look on a map) only to arrive a tad late to claim their baggage.

I did; it was about 3 inches long. Big deal!

I’ve always liked that expression. “Claim your baggage” or “Baggage claim”.

Because "reassemble the scattered bits of your personal possessions" didn't fit on the sign

It’s like you’re back in the Wild West and there’s Gold in them thar suitcases! If you put one on the ground and jump over it, does that make you a claim jumper? Or just an idiot jumping up and down over people’s suitcases and running from security?

At least now I’ve got a goal in life for my next foray to the airport.

Ponzi be nimble
Ponzi be light
Ponzi jump over
The Samsonite

That’s the truth. No embellishment… as long as you consider ‘four’ to be a ‘large crowd’. But there was cheering.

Depends, how big is the tent?

Which reminds me. Is this a Canadian thing? To me, a restroom is a polite way of saying washroom… which isn’t usually a room where you wash, but is a polite way of saying bathroom… which isn’t usually a room with a bath, but you get my point. And bathroom is really just a way of not being vulgar and saying ‘toilet’.

I snicker a little bit just typing that. I really have no idea why.

Toilet.

<snort>

And since Toilet is from the French toilette, meaning a cloth or bag for clothes, it STILL makes no sense! A lot more polite than asking where the shi**er is however.

When we were at Hanauma Bay, I needed a place for us to change and asked someone where I could find a restroom. She apparently didn’t understand what I wanted and said, “Do you mean the toilets?” <snort>

Dunno, I just found it a little odd.

Could be me. ‘Cuz I am.

::yes::::yes::::yes::

My carry-on is not exactly new. I’ve had it for over 20 years. I think I won it or it was given to me. Pretty sure the latter. It was black and leather and had a beer manufacturer logo on it.

Wow, they don't make those Molson bags like they used to! Black Label, Mabel?

Had a similar experience in Mexico. We dropped a hundred bones on a full set of hand painted serving ware. The largest platter is about 20 inches across. What the !@#$ were we thinking? Packing that into our spare duffel bag was a treat, and it just barely fit into the carry on measuring device. No WAY it was going checked baggage - we would have had about a dime's worth of busted clay at the end.

I cram the glass sculpture box inside and zip it up. Or try to.

The zipper breaks.

Uh oh!

We shove everything and everyone into the car and we speed off to the airport. But Bi… uh… Witchin’ Betty has other ideas.

We get on the highway. Ever notice that airport signs are easy to follow? Of course they are, you want the visitors to be able to go away, right? But nobody seems to think that they might want to get around while they’re visiting.

Betty starts to tell us to take various off ramps.
“Take exit on right… Recalculating… Take next exit on right… Recalculating… Okay, this time for real, TAKE NEXT EXIT ON RIGHT… Recal… oh, you just don’t love me anymore! My mother the toaster warned me about men like you!”

Yeah, the love affair with Betty is definitely over.

Hey, she was trying to HELP you! She didn't want you to leave either!

At the airport there’s a long line of people waiting to check in. There’s a man standing by a scale rubbing his hand and cackling with glee anytime somebody’s suitcase is over the 50 lb limit.

You Yanks are lucky. You get 50 lbs. Up here we only get 23kg :rolleyes1:

The Grim Weigher checks my bag and chortles, “Ah ha! Your bag is 58 lbs! Go over to the table over there and take some stuff out.”

I’m not making this up. He really did seem happy that my bag was over-weight and wanted me to “take stuff out”. Take stuff out? If I didn’t want it with me, why the heck would I be lugging it around!?!?

“Do I have to take stuff out?”
“You don’t have to… but it’s going to cost you $100.”

At least they had a table. A few years back we were on the floor in front of the WestJet counter at MCO redistributing the load as others stepped/tripped over us. That's when I started carrying the spare collapsible duffel, cause $25 for an extra bag heading home is a lot better than the $100 overweight charge.

The line is slow moving. Tectonic plates move quicker than this line. People all around us are beginning to panic. “Martha? What time is our flight, again?” “Bill, you did say they weren’t boarding for another 20 minutes, right?” “Samantha, you looked really hot in that negligee last night.”

Bet you took a good look at Samantha tho, didn't you...
That last one might not’ve been relevant.

While Ruby’s snoozing, I watch ‘The Iron Lady’. Meryl Streep won the Academy Award for best Actress in it. She was very good. The movie wasn’t. Win some, lose some. After that, I don’t recall much of what went on. Dull trip and tired… not a great combination.

Dull trip? You spent a whole week in Hawaii!! Sheesh!

At some point I picked up my carry-on and the handle snapped. It has two. It started to swing to one side (remember the broken zipper?) but I grabbed it in time with my free hand.

Double uh oh!

Close. Of course now my carry-on is more of a ‘cradle-on’, but at least the sculpture survived.

Phew!

Ah, it’s good to be back… when can we go again?

God I love/hate this moment. That's usually when I run to the 'puter to start planning my next one

We’ve packed a lot into the time we were there… and that’s part of the problem. It’s been part of the problem for the last couple of trips. I do all the planning, because I like doing it and Ruby hates doing it. The last couple of trips I’ve wanted to make sure the kids get to experience as much as possible based on the theory that they may never see it or go, again. Or that they may not fully experience something unless they experience it. Or maybe it’s not wanting to let them get bored and not have a good vacation. Or… I dunno. It is what it is.

Ruby suffers as a result. I remember the last time we were in Disney. One of her favourite days was when I took the kids back to … I’m gonna say DHS. She put her foot down and refused to do another rope drop. She stayed back at the hotel, did laundry and vegged out by the pool. She was much happier afterwards.

Running around killing herself may not be quite her style.

I guess what I’m saying is we’re not taking the time to smell the pineapple. I keep telling myself, “Next time! Next time it’ll be different!” And it will. We both like to do things and see things…. But maybe not at the crazy pace I set this trip. Which was okay, ‘cause Ruby wasn’t with us for most of it. The kids are older now and are on the cusp of being able to do things on their own. Time to pass the torch.

Right there with ya. We tend to alternate March vacations with and without the kids. Without is relaxing, with it's Go, Go, GO!!!! But I plan every moment of the those kid ones; doesn't help that they are always in Orlando and there is SOOO much stuff to do! I get the feeling that this March is our last one for a while. After this University break won't match up with Public School break, and kids will have jobs. Wonder how much I can pack into our last nine days?!?!

I do know that if we return to Oahu… or the next time we go to WDW, there won’t be this need to do everything… Because we already have. Oh, sure there’s a few things we skipped (Pearl Harbor anyone?) but that’s a good thing. Gotta have a few things to look forward to, right?

Yes there will, no you haven't, yes you do!

I’d like to thank all the readers for contributing to this TR. Without you, well… it would’ve been pretty crappy. You guys provided me with some chuckles and what more could a guy ask for? I’m still singing ‘Secret Ponzi Man’ in my head! (Darn you T-Man!!)

I have to give an extra special thanks (and provide the rest of you with someone to blame) to Nebo for pushing me into writing this in the first place.

Yay Nebo!

Also thanks to bankr63, Thumper Man and Thumper Man’s Wife, Backstage Gal, buzz1121, cp'ersmom, Sandy Mouse, jakeybake, queenbetsey and nowellsl for posting back on Nebo’s TR or PMing me, letting me know I wouldn’t be abandoned over here. That may not be a comprehensive list… that’s all I remember for sure. If you got left out, feel free to flame.

The pleasure has been all ours I'm sure! :grouphug:

I had no idea which way this was going to go when I started it. I did know that I didn’t want a cookie cutter TR, but darn it! that’s what happened anyway.

Oh, well.

Speaking of cookies… thanks too for the following recipe contributors:
GreenAcres, Backstage Gal, cjlvsccm, orenonmommyof2, jedijill, buzz1121, shan23877 nowellsl, queenbetsey, laura74, dana0801, nrod, cp’ersmom, Sandy Mouse, Smidgy and MAGICFOR2. (Honorary mention, Nebo, for how to eat an oreo)

And I never did post one. Thanks for letting me on anyway. Actually there are no cookies in our house as DS is Celiac; but we discovered (who am I kidding DW aka Moxie found and improved) a recipe for the BEST flourless chocolate cake. I'll see if I can pry the secret from her and post it as an offering to the cookie gods!

And now, the part of the TR that you’ve all being dying to read!

THE END

No! Say it ain't so! It's been a ride Ponzi; thanks for all the grins and giggles!

Oh great. Now I bet you're expecting at least one more song from me. Let me see what I can come up with.
Standing by...

Took me a while to pick a song. Figured I could use, "I Did It My Way" but then I used that on Nebo's. Stayed thinking for hours.
thinking.gif

I commute by train to/from work. As I was listening to my iPod on my way home, there it played.
idea.gif

The song I knew I needed to do, the song to end Ponzi's TR. Given we don't know how much time we have before this TR goes into the vault of finished TR's, I knew this had to be the song.

So without further ado, adieu :confused3, I give you T_Man's version of:

"The Final Countdown." (Originally performed by the band: Europe)

This TR closing forever
I guess this is farewell
We’ll all have to come back
To read the Thumper’s as well
Ponzi don’t hang your head in shame
You made us proud (made us proud)

It's the final countdown

Ohh
We loved your adventure, you delighted us all
with your Hawaiian pictures, and your surfing fall, yea.
I guess now its time to go, we’ll see you around (see you around)

TMI. I really didn't need to know what Nebo's does with the cow costume on.

Oh wait, you're talking about his TR. Never mind.

I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by the cow picture. Cripes, we will never, ever be free of it either, the image is seared on my brain! :crazy2:

Great song, Thumper. Be sure to let us know when (not if) you start your report.

Say it isn't so...It can't be the end already.

Yes... yes it can. But fear not! I can always be found... on Nebo's TR.

Or on second thought... maybe you should be afraid... be very afraid...

Thanks for the song T-Man. I especially liked "(Instrumental break)"

Brilliant! Just, brilliant!

Okay, I jest. Actually, made me kinda sad too. I've had a lot of fun writing this, and now... :confused3 Poof. All gone.

That was a lovely story about how the trip went for Ruby (who is a lady after my own heart), but the intent of my question was what did she think about doing this TR?

Ah! My bad. Or as Gilda Radner would say, "Nevermind".

She was pretty ambivalent about the TR. She only wanted to make sure that I wouldn't post any pictures of her (for reasons that I can't discuss).

Every now and then I'd say something like, "Hey guess what so-and-so posted on my TR?" Then I'd tell her... it's almost always a "you had to be there" kind of thing. She'd just smile tolerantly.

Oh, I hear you. And then everyone posts a chapter at the same time and BAM!... swamped.

I saw that happen once on a thread - the guy had left his cousin his password, so she just kept it going. Boy, did we have fun while he was gone!:rotfl2: We even cyber decorated his apartment! :rotfl2:
