DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Morning afternoon and evening all. Didn't do so well in tennis tournament, so I'm out. Played bad and lost to a not very good team. But youngest is still in and we are both in mixed doubles. Hope your day turns out better than mine so far.

Sorry CJ. I had a similar encounter with them a few years back. I told the guy you can run it as a credit card JUST like they do in the store. Only difference is it comes out of my account IMMEDIATELY vs. being a delayed payment like a CC. Guy looked at me like I had a horn growing out of my head. Guess that could've been the case because I was madder than a rhino. I too ended up going with a different company. I told the guy, fine, if you don't want my money sitting IN THE BANK vs. some credit card...okay...I'll take my business to someone with a clue!

Sadly, when you're dealing with all these corporate businesses, either no one is allowed to use their common sense or doesn't have any.

And DW got the big job, so being a stay at home dad for about a year starts in 5 weeks.....

Congrats to your DW and to you for being able to rest at home. Get to cleaning...

A lot of business don’t like debits for various liability reasons and having encountered that stuff in the past, I don’t carry my debit cards anymore. Rather I use just one credit card that I treat as if it were a debit. I track it in my ledgers as if it were a debit and pay it down to zero about every ten days or so.

The main up side of this is that I get reimbursed if the card gets hacked (which has happened at least three times), where a bank probably won’t do so for your cash accounts leaving you on the hook for the amount taken. There is some insurance on the purchases, and I’ve earned nearly $4000 in Disney points over the last six years and I have not paid one cent in interest on the thing in all that time.

I know Dave Ramsey recommends them, but I just can't go there. And, it's for the same reason you mentioned. I've only been hacked once so far, and I notified Chase Visa and they investigated it and I was out no money. I know the rule applies the same way to debit cards, except that it is my money on the line. I don't want to be out the money or have my account frozen. Like you, I just use the credit card and then pay it off at the end of the month as I already have the money in the bank account. Or, I'll use my debit card to get cash at my ATM and then just pay cash for it.

I love this part of my job but I'm glad it only happens every two years. Running on 4 to 6 hours of sleep for about 18 days get old when you hit that 10 day mark. That being said I wouldn't trade this for anything in the world. Last night was awesome! The wrestlers I've been with all week had chances for 7 medals in the individual competitions and will be bringing home six, 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze. Our heavyweight won the gold, pinning his opponent from Ontario in 36 seconds. His reaction was fantastic.

The girl wrestlers are still prettier, but that is an impressive medal count and reaction.

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend.
Busy end to my week. DD had her 10th birthday Thursday. Now that she's in double digits I've realized the teenage years are just around the corner :scared:

Got out yesterday to the beach with the family. Summers don't last too long up here so it's nice to be able to enjoy an afternoon relaxing in the sun.

The beach looked nice mate. Happy birthday to the not so young un....

Congratulations Dan! Just one question, if you are home all day, how will you know when it's time to Call It?
I could either call it at 0905 Monday morning UK time, so youse guys can roll straight into the weekend out of the old one, or go to the cliche that a housewives work is never done.

I would call myself Cinderelly but with your username that might give people the wrong idea....

Congrats to your DW and to you for being able to rest at home. Get to cleaning...

I will do. Straight after I've finished this box of caramel turtles and watched a couple of my tele-novas in my dressing gown. Cheers mate.

Great photo. Who's the dominant province Darcy? Who does everyone want to beat?

Congratulations!

And, what a great photo!

We have an excellent photographer as part of our Mission Staff.

Ontario ran away with the medal haul as they usually do. They had 211 medals to our 24, which was are best ever. There is also a large discrepancy in money spent on amateur sport development in each province. Two of the biggest, Ontario and Quebec, spend about 75 million each. Our provincial government commits just under 6 million per year.

Also Ontario and Quebec are our most populous Provinces. Larger pool to draw from.

Met Mark and his crew at the Biscayne Bay National Park. Spent and enjoyable couple of hours. Someone was cooking chicken and I was disappointed Scotty wouldn't be my accomplice to steal some.

That stinks. Wasted days are the worst as you just get to redo them. I'm about 2 hours north east of optimal eclipse viewing. I'd rather be in my bourbon bar.

If I had more time, I would make a swing west and meet you at a BBQ joint and then off to the bourbon bar.

Great news Cj, tell Crash, Santa says,

I will. She starts tomorrow and is a bit nervous. Luckily she knows a couple of people working there so that is something.

You should go if you can.
Just remember that MB will be outside of the shadow so you can’t see totality from there.
You’ll need to head south at least down toward the Georgetown area to see the full eclipse.

Now, if y’all were to head just a bit farther down toward Charleston that morning, then you’ll be able to find me watching the event as well. I’ll be Downtown sitting in a lawn chair in Brittlebank Part looking west across the Ashley River for the duration. Drop by if you’re in the area.

Close enough for me. Again, if I had more time, I'd drop by. Like the idea it is right on the beach. It is about 90% a go.

Sorry about that. Good for her she is still in it. Do you play doubles with her?

Busy end to my week. DD had her 10th birthday Thursday. Now that she's in double digits I've realized the teenage years are just around the corner :scared:

Congratulations to her.

Be afraid...

Be very afraid.

What he said.

I will do. Straight after I've finished this box of caramel turtles and watched a couple of my tele-novas in my dressing gown. Cheers mate.

Better watch it. If you get fat, she may turn you in for a younger model. Congrats to her on the job.

I much prefer the 0905 Monday morning UK time option.

Morning all. Really sore from all the tennis this weekend. Youngest dd won her singles division. And, we made it to the finals in mixed doubles division, but lost in 3rd set tiebreaker. Not too bad for being this old and out of shape. I skipped the gym this morning. Now, i need to find a bar. :drinking1

On the work front, came in with the intent of re-scheduling a meeting in lieu of the eclipse. The campus is delaying class time start to 4:00 PM. I'm scheduled at 12, and recommended postponing to the following day. Well, management has deemed that a terrible idea and i am to proceed as scheduled. I guess when I get stuck in traffic and can't make it, they will have to postpone. :furious:

The locals are anticipating a Woodstock type event, with people parking 30 miles away for the viewing. Campus is 60 miles away from the optimal viewing, but is the largest city with most hotels nearest that smaller city. We shall see.

Got out yesterday to the beach with the family. Summers don't last too long up here so it's nice to be able to enjoy an afternoon relaxing in the sun.

Saw the pictures. Happy birthday to dd. How far away from the beach are you?

Never lose faith in 007. He's probably just on an undercover assignment for Mi6, posing as SAHD.

Way to keep your cover. :lmao:

.

Saw the picture on FB. Where were you? DW wants to visit Tortuga State Park all the way at the end of Florida. I would like to drive over the bridges thay Arnold Schwarzenegger blew up in that movie with Jamie Lee Curtis. Maybe we will get down to Miami one day and i can check on those camper hookups. :lmao:

Yes, youngest and i played mixed doubles together, although she got mad at me for trying to coach her during the match and stopped talking to me.

How's your toe?

Wouldn't 60 miles be close enough? I think traffic in many places will be that way. I've heard people around here are taking vacation and/or driving up to TN/NC for this. Yeah, I think it would be cool to see, but I will avoid the traffic.

Must be on FB...nothing to see here, move along.

I think you're onto something. Ingenious cover.

When you're driving to the lower keys, those bridges seem like they're never going to end. And you get off of one, pass through a small bit of land/town and then you're on another. Some of the best diving, but the drive time stinks.

I probably shouldn't have said to get the car up to 88 mph.
Yeah well not sure the Tumbler could have gotten up there,

Update on the kid's job front. Lab is out. On Monday, she starts as a research diver for a consulting company based in Jacksonville. The project is an environmental survey of the expansion of Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale. They will be mapping the seabed in the area they will be dredging and the adjacent areas that could be impacted. They wanted to hire her full time but she still needs to complete her Masters' Thesis so she will work 2 weeks a month. Real job and good money ($20 an hour).
Congrats

Getting paid for doing work she likes. A concept we should all have embraced.
I do work I enjoy, now if I could just convince them to pay me enough to enjoy anything else.

Why does FB think this is important to me?
Reason #432 I dont do the facebooks.

Came home and did the ice bath to get rid of the soreness. Feeling much better now.

Congrats to the youngin'!!!

You have 431 other reasons? I do FB, mostly posting on the dis dad site there. There are so many others out there now though, and it's hard to keep up.

Youngest dd won her singles division

Big congrats to her.

Biscayne National Park Visitors Center. Surprisingly I never visited there. Nice little park where they rent kayaks to tool around in the bay. No water access though to snorkel. The bridge Arnold blew up was one of the mainland/Miami Beach ones, not the Keys.

I went with a couple of friends on a live-aboard in the Dry Tortugas. The fort looked kind of cool but because of engine problems, we were unable to dock there. They run boats from the Lower Keys out there.

Yes, youngest and i played mixed doubles together, although she got mad at me for trying to coach her during the match and stopped talking to me.

I kind of hear her under her breath as you were trying to coach her, "So dad, how did you do in singles?" Damn know it all kids.

Great views though. Most of it is one lane each way and if there is an accident, best to pull off the road and get something to eat. Most of the time, I stay in Key Largo when is less than an hour from my house. From here, I make three turns and I am at the Holiday Inn. Rarely make it to the Lower Keys.

Thanks. First day was today. She is on her way back and is beat.

Evening Guys.
Made it home a little past Noon today, got unpacked, laundry done and napped. Good to be home.

Will have to take a look back through here in a bit but I did see some congrats are in order to Norm and his DD.

What's the criteria for which province you represent? did you have to born there?

Each national sport governing body sets its own age restrictions and many are at u17, some are at U19, athletics are at U23. To represent your province you need to have it listed as your permanent address or attend school in that province.
