Harvey Weinstein

It is so incredibly layered. All of it.

I am saddened with what I see as the reluctance. Yes some of it is "not affecting me". Some of it "it's none of my business" or simply I will just pretend I don't know anything. I am getting paid well etc. etc. Absolutely.

But I also think we are grappling with an issue that is rarely discussed. An uncomfortable one. Often people that are not the victims, but know, do not speak up because of their knowing about their own actions, family member's actions or friends. It clouds many people's willingness to be a hero for others.

In Hollywood, you only have to look as far as Casey Affleck, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon to understand how deep that can all run.

I think it's something that is critical to making changes. That people hide out, and not speak up, for their own reasons. We need to break through that somehow.

And women need men. We need men in these instances. We are strong on our own, of course, but we really need men to stand up too. Stronger than Brad Pitt threatening Weinstein at a party kind of standing up.

(And yes I know there is harassment/assault on both sides)

I appreciated that at least Jane Fonda said she was ashamed that she knew for a year, but did nothing. She then stated I honestly didn't think it was my place because I was told by one victim.

So complicated all around.

Yeah. I think there's also legal considerations. You come out with serious accusations against a wealthy, powerful person with nothing but your memory of events and they could get their lawyers after you.

Or maybe that's what I get for incessant rambling. :rotfl2:

I'm sorry and I understand more than I can say. Hardest job in the world.

True however many of these women are extremely wealthy and have a voice and a following.

I find it interesting that there are posters on this very board who make piggish comments all the time and are never called out on it.

Know that I was merely lamenting how draining it has become for all, regarding needing to recognize a slant. Or feel a slant.

But I wonder if your icon is more leading. :drinking1

Of course. I understand.

You know I haven't been judging them, nor do I think they should be judged. But we all make choices - some crappy, some brave - and honestly I wouldn't even choose the same tactics now. Nor would I suggest the same tactics to others, to try to make sure someone pays and stops.

What's up with these guys? I don't think I can take much more!

The same things that are up with many people. Enveloped in our own shortcomings - and sometimes crimes - and then nothing is done.

Also, am I the only one that think that the young actresses that have worked with Weinstein and have pled ignorance of his ways the ones that did put out for their roles? Why else would he continue doing what he was doing. What are we doing wrong as a society that this is happening is this day and age?

No, I do not think that means actresses that are pleading ignorance have slept their way to their roles. One equaling the other.

The ones that aren't talking or that have said nothing happened to them - I do think it is plausible that nothing happened to them.

And don't forget time has changed women as well. Our personalities. Our bravado. Maybe some of the younger actresses of today, that were involved with him on a film lately, were more of a chance for him. Chance of filing charges. Chance of speaking out immediately, in the public realm. Who knows. I would like to think that is true.

Why else would he keep doing it?

Because he could. Because with him it didn't even matter if some were strong back to him in the moment. He got off on it. It's obvious from the stories. And because he didn't get caught. Well he did two years ago. So because the stakes weren't large enough.

And he went young over and over. He chose that on purpose. Beyond his thoughts on attraction. Youth brings naivete. Youth can bring the possibility of worrying about issues you shouldn't in a crime. A concrete example - worrying about Harvey Weinstein's family. Giving such a thought too much weight, any weight. Some mentioned that as a concern with their decision making.

Many issues that one would have in their youth, that they just don't have beyond those years. And for some that literally means out of their twenties.

He went young, because that's what most men who have money and power want. Not old like them (or me).

Obviously I don't think it's that simple for perpetrators, but I hear you on wealth and power.

His wife of ten years is forty-one. I would have put her as half his age.

And speaking of her ---

Apparently Weinstein tried to force some actresses to wear his wife's line, Marchesa. It will be interesting to see how it all affects the line over time.

OMG, so what the heck is going on with the Afflecks and Damon? I know that Ben is a druggie cheating dude. Probably Bi Polar 1, is my guess.

Haven't read all the posts, but here are my observations ..

I'm not an Angelina Jolie fan, but am very impressed that after she was harassed by him, she put her money where her mouth is, and chose to never work with him again.

Gwenyth Paltrow - "was" harassed, and later thanked him in her Oscar speech.

Many of the other accusers are B list or less actresses... are they that because they didn't give in to him, and didn't get roles that would have catapulted them into fame?

Haven't noticed him being roasted by late night TV... :rolleyes1

And the actress shown with Ben Affleck has spoken out, saying what is being shown was all an act. They are actors, after all.

Really as that of how that these actresses kept it hidden over on the way of fearing he would ruin their careers. And in fact he did ruin some. He is a bully and a you know what.
