As a newbie, I'm trying not to get too bummed about not using URs for Disney. I didn't even know it was possible to use URs for Disney until a few weeks ago, so basicslly I'm back to square 1.

in a way, u still can. the thing missing is the CSR(1.5x) or the CIP/CSP/CI+(1.25x) with there discounted rate.
you can still very much pay a disney vacation, use your UR to statement credit. its not the best redemption but its still a redemption.

have hope though, we wont know for sure until end of October. *fingers crossed*

( Could be innocent inquiry but smells a little mole-y to me :p )
What a weird question, lol. Anytime people try to bring taxes into churning/bank bonuses/etc. I always shake my head. People's tax situations are so different that it's not a productive discussion. Your answer will depend on where you live, what are your state/local income taxes like, how many kids do you have, what's your real income (not churning related), etc. etc.

So the people with lower incomes, lots of deductions and kids, live in states with little/no income tax will say it means little to them. People with high income in states & locales with high income taxes will say it is very meaningful to them. A bunch of other people will respond somewhere in the middle. And truth be told 50%+ of the people responding won't really understand how income taxes even work but respond with some garbage answer too!

Got my Amex Plat today. Wow, the packaging is so impressive and the card feels so solid. I'm in love

Few questions for anyone who knows...How do I add my teens as 'Gold' card holders? This is free, correct? And they will be able to get pre-check? Do they also get the lounge access? Can I add anyone, or only household members? Wondering specifically about my mom and stepdad.

Also, I got the 10% back on cable and satellite tv offer on this card. We have Netflix and Sling. Anyone know if that qualifies? Those are on autopay so only want to move them if I'll get 10% back.

Squee!

@tink1970 and @calypso726 - eBags is earning 20 United miles/$1 on MileagePlus Shopping today!

And don’t forget you get an extra 5x UR on purchases up to $200 when using CFU, CSP, or CSR at eBags!

AND Tumi is having a 20% off event right now!

SQUEEEEEE!

At this rate I will be able to open a packing cube outlet :rotfl:

In other news, I saw 2 first class seats on Emirates become available for the return flight we have next spring coming back from the Maldives that was booked on business class with Alaska miles. DH and I have our return flights booked separately and we decided to go ahead and change it up to first for the return. So, I got my flight done and then when I went to do DH's the other first class seat was gone  I don't know if someone else was booking the same flight at the same time or if it glitched out after my seat was booked. Sigh ...

I totally agree  Between the idea and how it was worded the Spidey sense tingle started, cuz it was just weird. And even if you were curious, and could get good answers, why would you bring it up in a public forum known to be read by the industry and give them any ideas! ( Unless it's totally reverse psychology and he/she hoped everyone responds ' nope, we'll just go faster to get it all in one year!' )

Oh gosh...I just read my comment again...and I have to do this guys...

I’m just now seeing this, and I burst out laughing! Made my day lol.

So I sent my email off to my TA to book my Disney trip tonight. It's a weird feeling this time...normally I am super pumped when we book the trip. It's the culmination of a lot of research/ideas, etc. This year...it's just strange. I know we are getting a good deal but with the UR rug pulled out from under me for now I have to say I'm a little frustrated. I didn't plan to book this trip today...and I didn't plan to book it this way. It's like I'm on Plan C or D at this point...

Anyways - I figured I'd vent to my group here because anybody I'd say this to at work would look at me like I'm nuts...
"You're going to Disney...AND staying at 2 of their top resorts...AND it's technically not costing you any money...AND this is your 17th trip...AND you're frustrated???? SHUTUP!!" LOL!!

At any rate - hopefully they get the UR situation remedied. In the interim, I have rooms I can live with and a backup strategy on how to make the trip free...(Boy it will be hard for me to actually pull the trigger on cashing out $3k+ in URs though!!)

Question, now that I have 2 charge cards with AmEx and they don't have a credit limit tied to them, how does that impact your credit score? Will it consider that you are 100% utilization on that card? Should I expect my credit score to take a hit?

It shouldn't. This article confirms my recollection that it's reported but since there's no consistent upper limit it shouldn't be used in the FICO utilization calculation now.

Congratulations!

To add Additional Gold Cards,
1. Log into your Amex online account that has your Platinum.
2. On the top nav menu, click on Account Services.
3. Under Card Management, click on Add Someone to Your Account.
4. Select your Platinum and Continue.
5. Select Additional American Express Gold Card, type in their Full Name, SSN, and DOB, and submit.

Amex AUs have to be 13 years or older. Even though the form says SSN and DOB are optional, Amex will require this information at some point or they will close the cards.

Additional Gold Cards have no AF, and you can request up to 99 of them, free. AUs don't have to be household members, but you will need their SSN and DOB at some point. So yes, you can add your mom and stepdad if you'd like. Only add people you trust with your money. You're responsible for all charges on these Additional Cards, and the card will show up on the AUs' credit reports. Or, you could add them to get them Global Entry/TSA Pre✔ credit and just hold on to the cards.

When you're adding AUs to your Platinum account, you'll see a table comparing Additional Card benefits. Additional Gold Card holders do not get lounge access (or much of anything else), but they do get their own Global Entry/TSA Pre✔ credit as long as they charge the application fee to the Additional Card. If you want your AUs to have lounge access and most of the benefits of the Platinum card, you will need to get them an Additional Platinum Card, at a cost of $175 for up to 3 AUs.

(ETA: For a large family like yours, it may be worth the $175 fee at some point, maybe when the DEN Centurion Lounge opens, and you find yourself flying a lot, to add additional Platinum AUs that might be traveling with you. Each Platinum cardmember is allowed 2 guests into a Centurion/PP/Escape Lounge/Restaurant, but AUs are allowed their own 2 guests. So if your daughters each had an Platinum AU under the single $175 fee, you 3 could bring in 9 people.)

Thanks for all the info!

I would maybe consider the $175 AU fee at some point. I can see the benefits.

Since my dh has the CSR, and can bring in 2 guests to PP lounges and I can do the same now with the Amex plat, we are good to take in our whole family, right?

Honestly that’s how we felt with the December trip we were looking at. It’s a different situation but we just didn’t feel excited to go and that was what made us realize we might need to do some other things.

yup yup... but Amex Plat does have some lounges that isnt covered by PP lounges... ie American express lounges and Escape lounges... just check carefully.

I forgot to add, Gold AUs also get their own Amex Offers, which you know can be pretty lucrative!

And yes, your DH’s CSR PP covers himself and 2 guests, and your Platinum PP covers yourself and 2 guests. That covers your entire family.

One more thing. In the past, Amex has offered bonuses for adding AUs to certain card accounts and meeting a spending requirement. See https://www.doctorofcredit.com/new-...s-list-of-offers-everything-you-need-to-know/ I’m not aware of any current offers, but you see that last year Amex offered 5k MR for each AU added to the Platinum, including Gold AUs, and having the AUs spend $500 on their cards in 3 months. If you don’t need to add some people you have in mind right away, you might want to save them for adding when another one of these offers comes along.

Good thinking! I'm going to add my girls right away so we can maybe get all of us TSA pre-check before we fly again around Thanksgiving. I know we are cutting it close and we may not can get it done but I'd like to try. Otherwise, everyone else can wait to be added-if I even decide to add my mom and stepdad. It was just a thought because they are never going to pay for pre-check nor are they going to have a premium card that offers that.

Thanks...you too...my son lives in Orlando and said it’s been hotter than usual this September...not what I wanted to hear....
Way hotter today than i wanted it to be. My head does not handle heat well, hoping I can sleep the migraine away...

I'm working with my TA to see if they know how to work around it.

But now I'm also thinking of just going back to Poly and saving some money, LOL.
I'd choose Poly any day. Trying to keep up with this thread this week, currently at Tokelau, my favorite longhouse. Admittedly, it seems my kids prefer the food choices at Contemporary though, which was fine until the monorail stopped running and we had no way back. Thought we'd have to bus to Disney Springs, then to Poly, but they sent a bus over just for us and another family. As I was walking to the bus stop I was irritated that I haven't been paying attention to lyft/uber/minnie van credits and discussions here. Thankfully it worked out for us.

Oh no! What will the Plane Princess do stuck in business, when you’re laying in first class?!

@SouthFayetteFan - Congrats on getting your trip booked! Like you said if nothing else at least you have a backup plan. I'm too lazy to go back and find the post, but you had mentioned having a dream of watching the fireworks from the Contemporary in a theme park view room. Have you considered renting DVC points at BLT for that? I'm sure it's too late for this trip, but maybe for your next trip? Just a thought.
