Got my Amex Plat today. Wow, the packaging is so impressive and the card feels so solid. I'm in love
Few questions for anyone who knows...How do I add my teens as 'Gold' card holders? This is free, correct? And they will be able to get pre-check? Do they also get the lounge access? Can I add anyone, or only household members? Wondering specifically about my mom and stepdad.
Congratulations!
To add Additional Gold Cards,
1. Log into your Amex online account that has your Platinum.
2. On the top nav menu, click on Account Services.
3. Under Card Management, click on Add Someone to Your Account.
4. Select your Platinum and Continue.
5. Select Additional American Express Gold Card, type in their Full Name, SSN, and DOB, and submit.
Amex AUs have to be 13 years or older. Even though the form says SSN and DOB are optional, Amex will require this information at some point or they will close the cards.
Additional Gold Cards have no AF, and you can request up to 99 of them, free. AUs don't have to be household members, but you will need their SSN and DOB at some point. So yes, you can add your mom and stepdad if you'd like. Only add people you trust with your money. You're responsible for all charges on these Additional Cards, and the card will show up on the AUs' credit reports. Or, you could add them to get them Global Entry/TSA Pre✔ credit and just hold on to the cards.
When you're adding AUs to your Platinum account, you'll see a table comparing Additional Card benefits. Additional Gold Card holders do not get lounge access (or much of anything else), but they do get their own Global Entry/TSA Pre✔ credit as long as they charge the application fee to the Additional Card. If you want your AUs to have lounge access and most of the benefits of the Platinum card, you will need to get them an Additional Platinum Card, at a cost of $175 for up to 3 AUs.
(ETA: For a large family like yours, it may be worth the $175 fee at some point, maybe when the DEN Centurion Lounge opens, and you find yourself flying a lot, to add additional Platinum AUs that might be traveling with you. Each Platinum cardmember is allowed 2 guests into a Centurion/PP/Escape Lounge/Restaurant, but AUs are allowed their own 2 guests. So if your daughters each had an Platinum AU under the single $175 fee, you 3 could bring in 9 people.)
