@SouthFayetteFan - what was the rule of thumb about how long to wait to apply for a new card after closing the same card product?

I’m inclined to suggest @StephPlum should wait 30 days after closing her CIP#1 before applying for CIP#2 to avoid the possibility of Chase reopening CIP#1. Then assuming your CLs look good and it’s been at least 3 months since you opened a card that Chase can “see,” apply for CIP#2 using DH’s link. Am I totally off here?

I wouldn’t worry too much about having closed CIP#1. Chase is not Amex, and they don’t really seem to care about opening and closing cards. My DW closed her CIP#1 in 10/18 when her second year AF posted, and her last Ink card was approved in 12/18 before CIP#2 today.
The whole 30 days thing is somewhat of a myth but I still think it’s good in practice if possible. I believe people on r/churning have applied as quickly as a week later with no issue but I couldn’t actually pull any hard DPs on that without doing some deep searching. There was some discussion around this exact topic back when the 48 mo restriction on Sapphire was put in place so maybe I’ll try to find that thread on r/churning from the fall.

I had mine clipped with binder clips, I gave up a couple months ago and got this, and it still fits in my lockbox. I took the tassel off ;)

That looks awesome. Looks like Amazon? Do you remember what it was called or have a link? Would be much more efficient than my Ziploc situation!

Super excited. Ex didn't have spring break plans and I was able to get non-stop tickets from Reagan (a bit of a drive but worth it for non-stop) to Fort Myers for me and the kids for about 55,000 UR points. So much better than driving 900 miles in a minivan with 130,000 miles on it. I did check SW but tickets were crazy expensive ($1800).
enjoy! We really loved the beaches along Hickory Island south of there last month(and it was cheaper parking than Sanibel lol)

All 60k Hyatt points posted from meeting entire tiered MSR in just the first month (Tagging @DisneyMandC).

Thanks! I'm just over $3000 on mine, next statement closes in 6 days so I'll keep an eye out for the first round of points to post.

I totally agree with this. I was just pondering that over the weekend. While I've only started doing bank bonuses on purpose in the last year (like as the goal, rather than having an account and the bonus was, well, a bonus ) and it's been nearly as lucrative as CC's, it's taken way more effort due to the maintenance. Earning the bonus is easy and generally fast, but navigating the rest of the rules of the accounts takes some time. Not much, but when you're hopscotching money across several accounts to waive fees, or even just leaving min. balances sit there knowing you can't take those funds, it's weighs on you. Start feeling like some criminal enterprise moving the same money through the daisy chain.

Is it enough to make me stop? Not yet :) But I am picky on what I take on and how many I'm willing to do. I've chosen to do some of the lesser dollar amount bonuses just for the ease... which I know is not a good answer over on r/churning. "It takes 5 minutes, you don't want $600 for 5 minutes??", except it's not really 5 minutes when you add in all the rest. With credit cards, you spend a bunch of money, pay it off, and then not think about it ever again if you don't want to - or at least until an AF is due 12 months from now maybe. I'm not rich enough to leave money untouched in a bunch in of bank accounts for 12 months.

This is how I am too. If I have to change my work DD, I'm not doing it. But if it works with a push from Ally or credit card funding, I'm willing to try it. So far I've done Fidelity, Chase, PNC, and BB&T for the two of us.

I'm also interested in this. I hadn't paid close attention to the CIP 2 chatter recently. I just (as in last week) closed DH's CIP 1 when the AF hit. My AF hits in May, but I may keep mine for 3x travel earning since we don't have a CSR and I doubt I'll keep DH's CSP long term since I'd rather have 3x travel than 2x restaurants. I need to get DH a CIU on 4/1, but maybe late summer I should try for CIP 2 for him?

I love the idea of this, but the execution doesn't work, at least in this area, for me. The problem with it is not the older home that you renovate...I'd actually love that. I'd also love a single level home, which is near impossible to find in new construction these days. The problem, is these older neighborhoods have no HOA and CCRs. I can't deal with someone's boat parked in their yard, or a shed out back, or unkempt lawns. No way. Would make me nutso. As you can see, aesthetics are way high on my list of priorities. I want a strict HOA, very strict.
Oh I think an HOA might not like us very much lol we have a neat decent yard but I like freedom of choice etc...Of course I have a couple of neighbors with boats sitting there....:rotfl2:

I also got this one to try, since they were all free returns... but then lost the packaging so I use it for APs and gift card stash lol.

I found that thread but it’s mostly discussing that you have to wait 3 days after a PC to reapply for that same card (ie if you PC a CSP to CF you can’t reapply for CSP for 3 days).

I bet it’s fine to reapply within a week of cancelling (heck it may be fine within 2-3 days). Some of the “rules” we abide by are moreso guidelines that aren’t founded in any truth haha. I think the 30 day rule may be one of them. I’ve never seen an actual DP of somebody’s cancelled Chase card being reopened.

All the chatter has me interested. I was going to get DH the United Biz this month... on the other hand, 105k URs via CIP + MSR + referral > 80k United miles... or, DH only has SW Biz and CIP... maybe he gets United Biz, or CIC/CIU, now... then close his CIP in May at one year and get another CIP... More decisions...

Did you remove the tassle to hang it from the rear view mirror on Zacks creepy van???
:rotfl: Unfortunately the van is long gone now.

The variation with middle name isn't required. It's funny, but this reddit obsession with EIN also isn't required. I don't know how it took this long to figure out, but you can just get multiple CIPs with the same name and SSN. It's likely that it has always been this way, but people thought EIN was a way around a rule that wasn't enforced. And then people thought Middle Name or Middle Initial variation was a way around a rule that STILL wasn't enforced.

The truth is...CIP doesn't enforce a 24 month rule. It's crazy...but true! Your only limit appears to be your velocity with Chase and how far you really want to push the limit and abuse what seems to be a loophole. I think for our purposes here, we'll hesitate to openly recommend doing more than 2 CIPs in a short time span. We don't want to contribute to killing this and we don't want to advise people to anger Chase to a point of blacklisting or claw-backs.

I agree mostly with what @SouthFayetteFan just said. The middle initial variation and EIN are not required to get a second CIP; you can just use the same name you used on your first CIP and SSN only. Chase doesn’t seem to be enforcing any 24-month limit on the SUB. (I don’t think there’s any mention of a limit in the offer terms, and there’s only mention of one in the certifications.)

I do think there is some limit to how many biz cards Chase will approve you for under only SSN, which is probably a factor of velocity, personal income, business revenue, and total credit lines across your open Chase personal and biz cards, which is probably around 3-4. I think applying using an EIN helps to extend that count with data points of folks getting as many as 6 Chase biz cards.

For my wife’s CIP#2, I used SSN again (CIP#1 was also SSN) and I dropped her middle initial, which was present on CIP#1, CIU, and CIC. The OCD part of me really considered keeping the middle initial to have everything consistent, knowing it wouldn’t matter to her chances for approval. But I decided to apply for CIP#2 without the middle initial thinking maybe the variance would make Chase consider CIP#2 another “business” requiring a different online account, because I wanted to keep CIP#2 separate (for my own record keeping) from the account with their CIU and CIC. Nope, even without the middle initial, CIP#2 showed up on the same online account as her CIU and CIC.

I should add that the $5k CL on CIP#2 wasn’t a surprise because her reported business revenue is only $1500, and her CIU and CIC have combined CLs of $10k.

Thanks! It's so crazy, I guess I just wanted to see another DP of SSN with exact same name. P2 and I don't have middle names, otherwise I'd probably put it on -just in case- and to help distinguish the cards.

I saw a DP of 8 Chase biz cards! Half SSN, half EIN.

I always want to meet MSR quickly too. I don't need the points at the moment, but I want them. There's something oddly satisfying about seeing points post and then combining into a larger total. But doing AmEx MSR is forcing me to slow down. It's like watching paint dry. Spreading them out over 3 statements and watching statement close dates like a hawk.

Is there such thing as too many Chase cards? In Chase perspective, not consumer, because that answer I think is no. DH has 8 Chase cards and would like to go for the CIP soon. Does it not matter the number of cards as long as the CLs are lower? I have considered dropping his CFU, not sure if it is necessary. I worry because both the Hyatt and SW Priority have had zero spend since MSR. Is it safe to get soon? Still have about $400 left on the SWBiz, but thinking about getting new sofa soon so would like a new card to go with it.

2005 Disney
2012 Freedom
2016 Freedom Unlimited
2016 Sapphire Reserved
05/17 Marriott
07/18 Hyatt
08/18 SPG Business
10/18 SW Priority
01/19 SW Business

I've got 10 and so does DH. I read about one of the contributors for one of the popular blogs has 12.

Yeah I think I'll really have to weigh at the time what I'm more interested in. I wouldn't be able to get the SUB in time to pay towards our WDW trip, but of course I could use the URs for other future vacations.

Unfortunately the van is long gone now.

I think Zack's van is literally one of my favorite stories from this thread. Zack just looks like such a nice guy who shouldn't be in such a creepy van :rotfl:
