I’d like to try Aldi. We don’t have them here but I’ve heard good things. I do like Publix’s deli. We’ve gotten sandwiches there and they were so good. I definitely agree with you that it’s all about what you are used to paying. Our groceries are pretty inexpensive here compared to other places so that was what my dd was used to.

I just looked at their location map and it's interesting. They have the eastern half of the country fairly well covered and then 75 stores from San Diego to La with nothing in the rest of the west. We also have Lidl - similar to Aldi but that's still east coast only from what I can see.

Is that $3.99 organic? I can get a nonorganic gallon here for 1.99-2.29. Target is higher here than our Kroger chain and Walmart but my dd17 works there so the discount offsets the slightly higher prices.

I think milk is just more some places on the east coast. My mom was always amazed how much more a gallon of milk was in NC compared to at home. On thr flip side my stepdad loved how much cheaper the cigarettes were in tabacco country and would always buy some at cvs or the grocery and take them back home.

We always buy a gallon which is 2 something. They were on sale for 1.99 last week. When half gallons are on sale for 99 cents we buy those instead cause it's then cheaper than a gallon.

I FINALLY started building my Nanoblock Himeji Castle that we bought in Japan in October 2018 (my idea was to build it as a family since it's somewhere we all visited, but I had not realized how TINY the pieces are). I literally stayed up all night last night and got 10 levels done... but there are something like 75 levels so I'm gonna be working on that for a long, long time! It was sort of frustrating but also sort of soothing. Just sad I can't do it as a family thing.

Super glad I had no April trips planned (anywhere).

I had 7 gallons of milk in my fridge last week when all the kids were here :). Yes they will all get drunk.

About the stimulus...I'm claiming DD as dependent on my 2019 taxes, but will not claim her in 2020 (hopefully). If this is based on 2020 income, shouldn't she get something at some point?

I'm wondering the same thing. DD was claimed as a dependent in 2019 (she was still in college for half the year) but won't be in 2020. I'd feel really bad if that choice to file that way messed stuff up for her.

Dang, that's cheap. Haven't seen it that cheap in ages. Different brands have different pricing, so I usually do store brand which can range from 3.63 - 3.99 for 1% lately. More milkfat, then more expensive. I just got a half gallon of skim (it's what they had, gallons of everything but whole milk or the expensive-for-no-reason brands was sold out) for $1.89. This is all just for the regular, non special anything milk.

I think PA still has a minimum price for milk to support its dairy farmers. We rarely drink milk, only use it for cereal and occasional cooking, so I buy organic because it lasts a lot longer. Half gallon organic at Aldi is $2.89 here.
I think we do still. I recall seeing something like a Milk Board that sets the wholesale and retailer pricing and I think it's still operating.
When most places just have "cigarettes minimum allowed by state law" type signs, we also have "milk minimum allowed by state law" signs. :p

it says on college boards atm that college student who are claimed dependent on 2019 taxes will not get the $1200, nor will their claimers get the $500.
im guessing there isnt a way to check or something, seems kind of a void there.

We are having pizza as well...just ordered it for delivery

I just finished mine and it was delicious! Pepperoni and just the right amount of cheese with a soft yet crispy crust. And there are leftovers as she did a huge sheet pan. Later I'm going to go all out and have ice cream with some kahlua poured over it.

Sounds yummy..since it’s Lent, we had a grandma pizza..plenty of leftovers for 2 more meals.

Publix pricing is somewhat regional but if you shop the circular I find it’s super reasonable. I can’t stand grocery shopping at Target and think their prices aren’t great. We also have sooooi many options for groceries in central VA (Wegman’s, Publix, Kroger, Food Lion, Aldi, lidl, Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, etc.) which keeps prices way down.
Publix is also employee owned so their employees are treated well and are friendly. I’ll pay extra for that.

Oh man, I love Wegmans! Grocery shopping is such a disappointment since I moved away from Wegmans. Thankfully, my next move will likely take me back to the NCR and I can go back to the happy place that is Wegmans.

I am so curious about Aldi but there are none here. I think there is one in Southern California though. Perhaps next time we go, we will swing by just to have a look see.

I've been happily ordering things on Amazon to keep chipping away at the MSR. In a week or two I will need a couple (small) gift cards so I'll grab those at Fry's and that will help but with no trips and very little in the way of eating out, this could be tough! I still have time tho.

Yeah, it's confusing. She was a college student for 5 months of 2019, then started working in the summer. She won't complain either way. The US gov't says she will get her full stipend even though she had to leave early. She hasn't filed her 2019 taxes yet, but she will do so (as always). We filed a few weeks ago, because we are getting a refund, so we really didn't want to wait.
