Sad news... we had to put down Charlie, our golden retriever on Saturday. He was only 10. Thought we would have more years with him. He was acting off, so we took him to the vet. They did some tests and called back and wanted to do more tests and an ultrasound. Found out on Thursday he had a large tumor and cancer and bleeding internally. We were shocked.

DD20 came home from college (she was so attached to Charlie). Originally we had an appointment at the Vet's but then decided on to have a Vet come to the house. Charlie hated the Vets (as do all animals). He knew when he was there and would refuse to get out of the car. We didn't want him last moments to be scary and stressful.

The lady who came over was so wonderful. Charlie thought she was just a guest and was very comfortable with her. She made a horrible time not as awful and Charlie got to go to sleep with all of us surrounding him. Was very peaceful. Wish we could have waited a bit but they said the tumor could rupture at any time and then he would be in a lot of pain. Didn't want that to happen.

This is the first time in over 25 years that we don't have a dog in the house. Feels very strange. I'm sure once we grieve a bit more for Charlie - we will look at getting another Golden. Even though I could do without all the fur - they sure do bring a lot of happiness to the family.
I'm so sorry about the loss of your beloved golden. It is so hard to say goodbye to our pets and I agree that goldens just have something about them. We are on our second one (pictured in my avatar) and lost our first to cancer also. Such a horrible disease!

My current golden is part of the Morris Animal Foundation's Golden Retriever Lifetime Study whose main goals are to figure out what common genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors cause common health problems/diseases commonly found in golden retrievers. The hope is that any substantial findings can lead to cures that can also be used for other breeds and even people! She has been in the study since she was 6 months old and she is now 8! https://www.morrisanimalfoundation....JYUxYmS4CC8gPK4MOnEM2GtSZmkRaypxoCFhYQAvD_BwE

I'm so sorry. Losing a fur baby is heart breaking.

We filed this year and already have our refunds. But DD got this same message regarding last year's taxes. They said she never filed (she did) and yet they seem to have a credit on her account in the exact amount of the check that was mailed in with her taxes. She called and they told her to file again. :headache:
My return was rejected twice but I gave it a third try a week later, using 0 as last years AGI and it went through. I did get my refund direct deposited already. But I had already called about last years and been told to wait 4 more months on last years. So last years are still pending, this years return accepted and refund received. Crazy.

Hilton experts: If I book a room at the standard points rate, can I convert that to a free night certificate? I need one night in Vegas for this summer and the Waldorf has the rooms we would need but I would have to apply my husband for a Hilton card for the FNC sub. Thanks so much.

My understanding is it's like a cancel/rebook. If there are no more standard awards available, there's no guarantee that it'll go back into inventory.

My Dosh account got shut down 😭😭😭. I’ve read so many reports of that happening recently that I was mentally prepared for it, but still bummed. I really loved that extra 2% when Office Depot had their $15 off $300 in VGC promotions. Oh well - easy come, easy go!

Oh Jen, that's a bummer. I was just about to start this today, but guess I'll research a little more first. For what it's worth, I was shut down by RMN for almost two years. I cancelled all of my accounts (hence the shutdown), waited a good long while, then signed up via Paypal. Now they love me again - I bet you can get back in their good graces someday.

After reading this, I tried to cash out and mine says "suspended". If I'm truly shut down, I hope they'll at least give me my balance. I sent a support ticket through the app. I didn't see any other way to contact them.

Let me know if you have any luck! I’ve got about $60 in my bank, but since it’s ALL from gift cards (which are technically excluded .... and are the reason for my shutdown), I wasn’t even going to ask. If I had some legit cash back, I’d definitely try!

Mine is a mix. Definitely some gift cards but I hope they give me my legit cash back.

I usually fail at getting retention offers, but I got a $70 statement credit on my SW Plus card that covers the fee. I was told I had no offers available on the first call. When I called again two weeks later, the woman spoke so quickly and offered the credit right away. I almost didn't believe her! The credit showed up today, about two weeks later. In other CC news, I applied for a CIU yesterday and got the "we need more time" message. Ugh. I have an insurance bill due 4/1 and could put that spend toward a bonus. Funny thing is, I looked at the Barclay AA biz yesterday because I was thinking of doing that instead of the CIU, but it was closed to apps. Today, it's open for apps again. Do you think it's too risky to apply now since I had the inquiry yesterday? Maybe they'd pull from different places? I would be ok if I ended up with both cards since I could use them for tax payments or tuition.

Update: It was just identity verification. Approved for CIU. :)

Hit my msr on my gold biz on the 23rd and my 90k mrs still haven’t posted. Last time it was almost immediate.

Used our Away carry-ons for the first time in the real world this weekend. Just amazing. They wheeled like a dream and I just loved the battery pack, the hidden laundry bag and the cincher. I would buy more if we had another $200 coupon offer.

If you are on the fence, I would go for it if the offer is still around.

The Vet had mentioned that there was a study going - trying to find out why so many Goldens get this type of cancer. This must be part of it.

Possibly a little off-topic, but I recently got the point debit card to take advantage of some offers. There are a few different 5% back up on up to $1,000 in spend running through 3/27 - Amazon, Walmart, Whole Foods, Costco. Does anyone know if you could do $1,000 spend at EACH of these? Or is it $1,000 spend total across all of them? The terms aren't very clear (or maybe I'm just under-caffeinated.)

I also love my Away luggage! And I’ll throw in that the Everywhere Bag just so happens to be the perfect size for two Gideon’s cookie boxes. Just in case anyone else needed to know that....

No personal experience here but DoC reports it as "Update 2/22/22: Amazon, Whole Foods, Best Buy & Costco up to 5x on up to $1,000 in spend for each merchant. "

Trying to finalize our Hawaii plans, be there late June. Going to Maui (staying at Wailea Beach Resort).
My plan is to try to get Haleakalā Sunrise tickets for our first full day. On day 2 I have us driving the Road to Hana, for those of you that have been recently, is it worth it? What time should we head leave the resort? Any good blog articles? What should we pack?

Just dipping back in with a PSA to sign up for hotel promotions even if you don't think you'll use them AND to keep miles in your favorite airline account or a flexible one that transfers to such...

I was in Huntsville with my family (many of you know that DF was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer in Sept 2020 and was fighting the good fight) in late Jan when he elected to enter Hospice. My DFIL died the same day DF was enrolled in Hospice but due to complications with coordinating with funeral home/chapel/etc the funeral was delayed for about 10 days so I could return home before flying to CA.

My flight from HSV to ATL was cancelled so I was able to push my flight off for a day and just stayed at the airport hotel (a Sheraton so 1 night=2 nights with their current promotion) and then was at home three nights before I flew to SAC for my FIL's funeral ( Courtyard so 2 nights=4 nights). Flights from HSV to home-DL skymiles, then converted some MR to more Skymiles to fly from PNS to SAC and back as well as fly DH home from SAC. We were delayed in ATL on the flight home, so I was in Florida for about 10 hours before SIL reported DF's vitals (which weren't good and let me know I needed to return to HSV asap) so I was able to call Delta, use more skymiles and hop on the next plane back. I remained in at my parents' house until DF died (in the words of my DB "you know it's bad when Shay isn't at a hotel"). After that, booked our go to AC (staying 5 nights=10 nights) for the remainder of the week of funeral/family/mourning. I was also able to use Skymiles to book DD home from BOS but 13" of snow last week in central MA prevented her return.

Anyway...looking at our calendar for Feb, I didn't have any Marriotts booked and ended up sleeping in a Marriott 8 nights (and Hyatt 2) and spending...a lot of skymiles. The very very tiny silver linings from my last 3 (exhausting) weeks are: 1) very little OOP for flights and 2) securing plat Bonvoy status for 2023 via our paid stays (I already had 30 nights from credit cards and other nights from Jan) by February and 3) realizing that while overwhelmed, service people are still very very kind.

People mention having a stash for emergencies and I have to echo that, as well. You just never know when life will throw you a curveball (or two).

Okay back to fun stuff now...
